That's why I was homeschooled. Student=Teacher therefore, Intelligence of Teacher = Intelligence of Student. Except in first grade when your mom is your teacher. And usually there aren't any issues of student surpassing the teacher then.

my life question: what is your philosophy on life?
monkeygirl replied to dear john's topic in General Chat
My philosophy is that everything happens for a purpose...every closed door means another one opens, every bad occurance leads to a greater good. With time, it all becomes clear. Sometimes it's a learning experience, sometimes it forces us to take other routes; oftentimes both happen. For example: if the unfortunate occurance at my dojo did not happen, I wouldn't have left. If I hadn't left, I wouldn't have enrolled in my current high school and gained all the college opportunities I have now. So, even though I experienced heavy emotional trauma, it's playing out positively. I'm still trying to figure out why I got kicked in the eye though... -
I'm always reminded of this joke when I see those darned Charmin commercials with the bears in the woods.

I started with recorder, moved on to piano for a few years, and most recently have been playing guitar for 5 years. I like to write songs and lyrics for it.

Nice quote I hate quotations. Tell me what you know. -Ralph Waldo Emerson If you would convince a man that he does wrong, do right. Men will believe what they see. -Henry David Thoreau A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone. -Henry David Thoreau If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got -Mom Sometimes, people suck. -A good friend http://quotes.prolix.nu/Humor/Jack_Handey/ <--chock full o' Jack Handey quotes

Thanks batt! I guess I'm rabbit and fire then -
Those are perfect! I stand by every statement, except maybe the drunken part Although I must add this one: 8. When you are in pain, I will do a victory dance, because I probably caused it in a wrestling match.

Welcome to the forums! As a TKD-ist myself, I'm a little biased towards TKD. I think it's a great art to start with as a foundation (especially if you think you could seek to add-on other arts later on), depending on what kind you choose. If the school you're looking at offers self-defense and a program that seems pretty cardio-intensive, it looks like you may have found yourself a winner. Check out a few classes at both the TKD and Kung Fu schools, look at the prices, and don't sign anything before checking in with us again

Okay...it's not quite getting there, but let's not turn this into a belt-washing argument Just be aware that some people feel pretty strongly against it. Personally, I don't like to wash my belts, especially not my black belt since it has embroidery. I never got crazy infections or anything, and brain damage can be chalked up to pre-existing conditions Ask your instructor how s/he feels about it, and if they're cool with it, go for it. If not...use Spray 'n' Wash

Welcome to the forums! It's always great to see someone who's passionate about their art. It's like "hey, you too?", and you know you aren't alone in this great big Internet. edit:: I'd just like to apologize for the above post, as after re-reading, I realized it was definitely the corniest thing I've ever written.

My old dojo had a special rule that once you became a Black Belt, you could wear any color gi, or any combination of colors you wished. As a half-joke, my mother gave me a purple gi top the Christmas I got my Black Belt. The first time I wore it in, I got some really strange looks It was a good top though.

High School Wrestling
monkeygirl replied to dratix's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I'm kind of considering joining my HS wrestling team...there are a few drawbacks, several of which include: -I would be the only girl -Mr. Cruise (from the "do you believe in true love?" thread) is a wrestler -They have a very running-intensive program , and I have serious running issues. I'm working on resolving those, though But...anyway, in regards to the original post: My HS puts out a wrestling magazine that is supposed to be very, very good. In fact, it's #1 among HS wrestling magazines, apparently. If you can find it (I think it's Blue Storm or Mercersburg Wrestling or something) or other HS wrestling mags, you could gain some insight to the sport. -
2004 Olympic Judo Videos
monkeygirl replied to Judo Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I'm surprised that Tivo didn't put out a huge advertising campaign for the Olympics, pulling on the idea of people wanting to watch late-night Olympic events at their convenience. Anyway, I'm moving this to the Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling Martial Arts forum. -

Athens Olympics: Tae Kwon Do
monkeygirl replied to Kicks's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I watched those TWO matches today. At first I was like "holy cow this is all they're showing? Geez", but then I realized why they don't show that many TKD fights. Personally, I think it's a difficult sport for non-martial artists to watch because of the nature of the matches...even I was getting bored with the first match. The two fighters were just standing there for a good minute or two, psyching each other out and trying to get the other one to act first, both probably being reactionary fighters. Plus, that Brasilian chick's screaming kind of got on my nerves Not to downplay what they do: they're both excellent fighters and I'm sure they would destroy me. Just a little difficult to watch. The second match with the guys proved more entertaining and pretty exciting, though. Oh and by the way, I'm moving this to the Korean Martial Arts forum -
I'm going to move this to the Health, Training & Fitness forum.

I have a Betta fish named The Incredible Joe Kansho. There's a long story behind his name, you can find it here: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9754 *sigh* I can't believe I named him that.
