  6. Congradulations on getting one step closer to your black belt!
  7. Getting my black belt means that I graduated from High School and now I'm ready to go to College.
  8. When I was in the early stages of my traditional martial arts training, I viewed much of what I was taught as an art but the longer that I trained, the more I realized that there was a science behind of it.
  9. I also remember things that I didn't like and I also learned what not to do.
  10. Do it now! It's like White_Tiger said, you don't want to compete at a higher level without esperience.
  11. Although I changed from style to style and school to school before I finally found the style that suited me (Kajukenbo), I have no regrets about my previous training because I learned something good from every school that I trained in. There are many areas of martial arts that I wish I was better in but that doesn't make me regret the past, it just makes me look forward to the future.
  12. Thanks AndrewGreen, This was my feeling but I wanted to see how others felt about it.
  13. Most Kempo schools in Hawaii can trace their lineage back to Grandmaster Walter Godin who was a student of Sijo Adrianno Emperado, the founder of Kajukenbo.
  14. BJJ is constantly evolving with new techniques but when I watch MMA fights, I rarely (there are exceptions) see anything new. My question is how important is it to keep up with the latest moves for self defense purposes as it seems that the new moves are being used more on the sport jujitsu tournaments rather than MMA fights.
  15. The last time that I got hurt was when I caught a spinning elbow in the mouth which was an illegal technique in this tournament. My lip was swollen and bleeding and my opponent did not even receive a warning but I accept that these things happen.
  16. ditto If I knew that the fight was unavoidable, I would throw the first punch.
  17. There is no requirement of being registered as a deadly weapon in Hawaii. I recently met a guy who just moved here and he told me that he is so good in martial arts that when he moved here, he was taken to the local police station to be registered. I just nodded my head even though I knew that he was a liar. This is a good example of how this old wives tale perpetuates.
  18. Good luck on your test. You deserve it with the dedication that you have shown!
  19. It's different. I had to relearn how to tie a belt when I changed art.
