  1. Ok, personally I would have read the post on TKD effectiveness before posting that.... Its got a lot of peoples comments about the various attributes of TKD and styles.... You obviously competed against a Sport style school rather than a traditional school if you have the idea they only train for sport....
  2. yeah its really annoying when you break something, cos you know youve done it before you feel it, and of course the not being able to train for a while
  3. thats a really good point - your instructor wouldnt put you in charge at all if he didnt trust your judgement, and therefore will probably back you up.... dont worry bout ittoo much tho sounds like that guy wasnt really putting his heart into it anyway
  4. no - im a TKD er, spinning back kick, almost ended up face first on the floor , but lucking regained by balance quick enough to get a guard up....
  5. Eternal Rage; Ive never read anywhere anything about the trigrams of the IChing in relation to TKD patterns, and i research them a lot.... I would be greatly appreciative if you could post a link to any articles that concern that. [are you referring to the Chang Hon form set, or The Tae Guk, Pal Gae, Songham - not all WTF styles practice the same group] Thanks in advance!
  6. I think any fighter should learn the alternate to his style grapple / strike even if its just the basics..... but then there are many arts which combine the two.
  7. Wow, another lengthy post on sport / tradition tkd... I alwaysh ave tried to look at them as two completely separate activities.... sport / tradition The training is completely different for both. But anything I write now will just be repeating my self [see TKD Effectiveness thread in Korean Martial Arts]
  8. Nah didnt get a chance... you guys do nethn for 50yrs of tkd
  9. wow- thats harsh..... good theywere caught, and scary what little kids do...
  10. yeah i hate it when parents use the doj o/ang as a drop centre for day care. But then again - sometimes they're there when their parents are forcing them to to learn some discipline - so if their parents are making them go you might assume you can be stricter with them as thats part of why parents send kids to MAs
  11. Yeah if he was complaining and muttering i probably wouldnt have gone for the pushups, just asked him what he was saying and whether he had any issues with the advice i was giving.... but i know plenty of instructors who would give the press ups... and actually thinking about it i probably would as well. To be honest a student like that can create more problems than their worth.
  12. yeah - what made him think - ive just fallen over- but if i try and make it look like i meant to do it i might still do well in the auditino....
  13. its amazing how many replies this got so far - 130 just cos everyone has some experience of somethingl iek that - weird
  14. Good luck - remember first tourny - was really nervous, almostfell over half waythrough a kick... anyways hope it goes well
  15. your gonna love me - im a member of TAGB under an ex UKTA instructor
  16. congrats to you and your daughter - was that you couldnt hit her cos she was too fast or you COULDNT hit her...
  17. Ive replied to your other one go chekc it!
  18. jarrettmeyer made a very good point... but to expand on it. Avoiding getting hit with a strike is a lot easier to deal with than escaping from a hold.... Its much easier for you to see a strike and compensate fro it with a block dodge, bide you time and get inside to make a submissino... where the striker would be lost.... From the other point of view once some1 is that close to you without training i imagine it would be very difficult to know what to do at all... Basically what im saying is blocking and avoiding strikers is more natural to people than escaping from holds... therefore in a fight striker vs grappler the grappler will have a slight advantage [at the same skill levels]. This is coming from some1 who trains in a striking only art....
  19. I wasnt saying it wast he real intention - just that it was how it seemed to me - otherwise why pose the question? and such a high ratio? I agree the one with 10years would probably win in obscure situations [different rules / no rules / whatever] but the fight may be more close to even [still would back the guy with 10yrs training] if the rules favoured teh 1 year [same rules as theyd trained for, etc.]
  20. Ours go how yours go really... depends on the day and the performance- but we get students from schools all over coming to grade.... it tends to get a bit more strict the higher up you get, just as physically it gets a LOT more demanding.
  21. Again agreeing with whats above - sparring is a sport or activity used to train a certain skill [recognising targets and reading opponents as well as improving fitness]; ratherh than preparation for "street fights" or self defense
  22. A good place to start is https://www.bilang.com and http://www.trickstutorials.com/ the first has soem stuff from Tim Man on - and does ground work.... the second is mainly aerial stuff but has some good break downs of the run up to moves and their execution as well as answers to common quetsions and problems.... let me know how you get on
  23. land shoulder roll jumping reverse side kick
  24. also - when he does pipe up, just let him know that "its one awy of doign it, but when you consider.... x reason, what im about to say is better :D" so still keeping it polite getting ur message across....
