I other point - generally i should have said full contact training works - so NHB is good for 1 art, MMA which by deifnition it just trying differnt arts against each other is good for finding out what styles work better.... so the combination of an NHB MMA match would find out the best at self defense / fighting between martial arts at the highest level.... sometimes i think i just dont make sense - so sorry if my explanation is really poor i did try honestly.

Not training in them currenlty - i would definitely agree it would be helpful - just becuase it gives you more options of what to do and use....but not necessary.

I would say yes it can be detrimental - but no it isnt always detrimental. Training in an MA that has no emphasis at all on SD would not be as good as training for self defense with a police officer - IMHO. Also an MA if taught wrongly can override your instincts.... however.... if you look at the arguement like this you'll find that is unlikely..... In a fight if you have no previous experience all the teaching you may have had will go out the window. So the only way to stop this is by getting experience - i.e. training for self defense, this way you learn to override your instinct and actually use your training. The suggestion that the training can be of detriment is logically wrong - ie. if you are training for self defense - you are putting yourself in a sitation [controlled] to defend yourself against an opponent with varying degrees of resistivity. By training like this you learn what works - so it is practically impossible to learn the wrong thing in this situation as it would be shown not to work...... does that argument make sense? Im not saying it is impossible for a SD MA to teach the wrong things and actually put you in a worse situation - just saying its unlikely. Also training in an MA that doesnt concentrate on SD at all will probably not replace your instincts when it comes to defending yourself. IMHO you are better off training in MAs which have some sort of a self defense aspect to their training.

Could you beat a street fighter?

training also helps - also on the flip side ducktapehero - very few proper MAists would brag.... these are generally people who arent confident in their own skills anyway. -
It could be a combination - in general women are seens as being more concerned with fitness, and also now-a-days there is a large emphasis on self defense for women in general. So what it may actually be is not that there are MORE women than men in kickboxing, or whatever MA, but that the number of women taking MAs in general is picking up a lot more - so we're seeing a lot more women training than lets say a decade ago - which makes you think there are more of them.... if you get what i mean?:

kickboxing & stamina
Sam replied to 3hitKO's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Not really doing kickboxing that much myself - but looking at how alot of my friends train - i would say its definitely up at the top of the list when it comes to fitness in the MAs -
yes - ok then i agree - a fight cna usually end before its starts properly - bottle over the head, etc. But overall you should expect it to continue that way at least you are prepared..... what ITF organisation are you from?

Another point is - the human body is far more resistant than many people give credit for..... ripping someones throat out would be much harder than just saying it.... im not saying its impossible but the idea we wold have LOTS of dead bodies is something i dont agree with - id say there would be a number of fatalities quite regularly but i image most matches would not end that way. Secondly - just saying becuase youve never practiced it how do you know it works - there are ways of practicing even moves like a throat grab on equipment - just about grip, impulse and follow through.

I definitely see wehere you're coming from granmasterchen, I just personally wouldnt feel happy accepting the honorary belts... unless it would offend someone to refuse them.

Also - you were saying these were greate people and also very humble - so it is unlikely they brought the worship on themselvese purposefully.

A 4th degree in how many arts?!!!
Sam replied to radicalspiegal's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yeah - you see a LOT of people with 8 x 5th degree in whatever arts.... and then 3rd degrees and maybe a couple of 8th degrees and grandmaster ranks to just even things up Some people have trianined and legitimately earned multiple high level betls.... but then there are a lot of people where you just have to think - did you really have time to do it?
