soft vs. hard
Sam replied to BKJ1216's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
not necessarily..... both take advantage of the laws of physics -sometimes laws that werent known before the ideas were developed.... They both take advantage of impulse and conservation of momentum..... i would personally say soft is easier [physically] to apply whereas hard can take years of training to develop the ofrce..... where as soft take years to develop the accuracy and control. -
you step into the kick...... either cross the legs, or draw one leg up2 the other to get your weight behind it.... i do TKD but this sounds similar to one of our moves.

yep aodhan explained it well - just what you have done - anything in your life relating to your MA experience.... police training, etc. Good luck!

ne1 here study stav martial arts?
Sam replied to kitsune_no_tama's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yeah - it depends on what druidic culture they follow - paganism has many forms... -
yeah - its all about how you adapt the techniques to your physique - personally being long in the leg im not going ot engage in techniques that involve low centres of gravity.... etc.

I prefer tests to be difficult and formal - dont know why, dont like finding it easy - feels like i havent learned much

No problems - dont know why the first one didnt work.... just googled it

The real deal on the streetfighter, and streetfighting.
Sam replied to goshinman's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
something else to consider - alot of martial arts either assume untrained OR training to use techniques similar to theirs.. same style punches, same attacking tools / take downs, which would give them a major disadvantage when pitted against an unknown, who doesnt use their style..... smae with recognising fight patters in an opponent - most of the time you train against people from your style and so notice the subtlties of your style's techniques and patterns, yet looking at a different / untrained style things may be completely different. Guess saying what everone else is say - never assume, never underestimate - only go on what you know. -
ive seen two guys almost start going at it, then both collapse from wayyyy too much to drink, on top of each other...

Good luck with the Dojo and welcome....

Couldnt say it better - depends on so many things... just like any other MA you get more traditional and more sport based schools from some peoples perspective.... it just happens iwth TKD the difference is polarised and there are aLOT more sport orientated schools going about since the olympics hence the general impression people have of TKD

yeha would have been better to ask, but still - try and cover all the bases, write a resume of all you MA achievements since you started - that should cover it.
-
yeah that sites good... just search for MA tricks on google if you want more videos - there are so many out there. specially now parkours is so popular, a lot of the guys that do that do MAs as well to some degree.

I wouldnt say all were designed for killing... but mostly yes. I think we're never going to all agree... youll always have (a) it depends onthe student (b) it depends mostly onthe student and some arts are better than others at killing/self defense / whatever © my 4r7 15 7h3 b357 - 17 ru|35

I think so long as you're sensible with it, and dont do anything that puts you seriously at risk without being able to se... then its always worth giving a go - different training methods work for different people
-
yeah i can see its usefulness for practicing accurate stance, technique, and improving balance, - but depriving yourself of sight and then being attacked could end up going wrong.... you could always roughly script it?:

I think some of the suggestions made already are worth trying, just be polite, and maybe explain why what he's saying may not be the best....
