  1. May I be the first to say Welcome to KF! Where abouts in the UK?
  2. That was a fantastic article.... summarized the whole belt problem people have very well... sometimes humility is not really humility if you do it on purpose
  3. The other problem with teaching an autistic kid is that they have a problem looking at things [actually cant do this] from another persons perspective so they may not realise what they're doing is wrong.... i havent encountered many autistic people in the MAs, I would just advise being strict constantly with him, and if it persists and persists, you have to expel him, only real choise - likes already been said you have to look after the other students.
  4. I agree that the marketing name XMA is a trademark - but recently it has just been used in normal language to describe martial arts and gymnastics..... so they might have a problem pursuing it - unless of course people advertise as being XMA.... guess thats different.

    cinema

Love it - i go to the cinema 2 or 3 times a month.... hehe... Just like watching the films, and the environment and popcorn!
  6. I watched a bit of it but i think they're all so pretentious i cant be bothered - just get stressed watching them!
  7. The only problem with that approach is once he stops attacking you and begins any sort of defense or retreat you are no longer [by law] acting in self defense you are the aggressor.!
  8. I always just work it into life ..... 10 mins of stretching when i get up so i get up 10 minutes earlier.... when i get some free time in the evening [watching tv] i do some form of workout depending on what mood im in... or if i was lazy in the morning i stretch... - youll be amazed how much free time you actually have for 10minutes here and there [i only have a 9 -5 job : but its an hour journey each way and i train 5 days a week]
  9. ah no images on either ofthose - any other links/
  10. Boxers training is usually to so much a higher degree than other MAists that that alone would give them an advantage - and as UseoForce mentions - theyre experience and used to taking hits.... so yes i would say they could make excellent fighters.
  11. Also - kicking with shoes [not all shoes] would allow you to use different parts of your feet, i.e. if you have hard enough shoes you can curl the toes back and use the point ofth shoe.
  12. I think as anyone will have noticed - the most martial arts that are generally considered to be the most effectice are the ones that train very hard, and combine striking grappling techniques, and dont focus entirely on one ofthem.
  13. I'd have loved the chanceto train with Bruce Lee simply to meet him since there is so many different views on what he was like, and his true martial arts skill.... Choi would have been good though -as far as TKD goes, or master Rhee Ki Ha
  14. Its weird that tho isnt it - sometimes you can get so focused on sparring that you just dont notice some injuries.... ive taken a chunk out of the ball of my foot and didnt notice till i slipped on the blood.
  15. i guess XMA is just a generic term now though - i think Mike Chat might find it difficult to enfore just like google cant enforce their trademark in the UK when its used as a verb sicne it became part of the dictionary ... i.e. i'll google it.... is actually correct english.
  16. Ah right - well that makes sense now thanks... yes i agree [i thought it might mean something like that]
  17. I agree - i was just saying there was no need to jump to conclusion or anything at al.... either way it doesnt matter now...
  18. I think mainly it comes down to respect and ego - why do you feel you need to stand out?! [not talking to anyone in particular - just saying thats what one might thnik seeing someone wearing it]
  19. I guess it would as the impact and follow through plus momentum is no where near as high.... find someone who knows a bit about boxing [in that forum] and PM them sure they wont mind!
  20. welcome to KF i hope you find some1 to train with!!!
  21. ah right - TAGB here so im generally not that popular with other TKD organisations
  22. also like was mentioned no shoes promotes better foot shape and conditioning... most people find when they first start trianing or when they boost their training to more lessons a week they start getting blister and then calloses.... its a good thing... Its also helps when you come to do destruction which happens in a lot of TKD styles.
  23. I think anyone should be wary on obligatory contracts and high fees - generally the suggest something not quite right going on if they have to tie you down by making you pay.... there are actually a couple of forums that have reviews of USSD on them that arent too positive.... just google it with "USSD martial art review" or somethnig similar.
  24. You can even see it in a single art - compare WTF TKD to ITF TKD - walking stance is different.... reverse side kick is different... its not just different interpretation in some cases - sometimes they're wholly different moves.
