  1. That. Is. The. Sweetest. Weapon. Ever. Who would ever suspect a cane? A harmless little cane?
  2. How much should I pay for them? Which brands are best quality? Do I want adjustable ones?
  3. I have a few thoughts why people do water training. For Fun For the Resistance Any other reasons? Is there a historical background about it that I should know about? Is there a name for it?
  4. Do they have a girl Bob? Barb maybe?
  5. That's what I'm most afraid of when I go to my first competition... the chest protector! I've got big you-know-whats and I'm afraid I may be mortified to try to get into one of those things...oh well, I can always laugh at myself later.
  6. From what you guys have told me it sounds like both of these varieties (judo and taekwando) seem very biased and I do agree with making it a general kickboxing event with middle of the line rules.
  7. Well, from what little I know your kiai should not involve any blocking of the air, so that you get out as much air as possible in a natural you're-not-trying-to-make-a-word way. So that does narrow down the possibilities for noises...but yes, I like hai.
  8. I'm going in for my orange belt testing for kyokushin at the end of the month. What do you think he should/will charge? And if any of you instructors out there want to help me out... what will the format of the test be? Will some of it be questions, kata, sparring, basics? It is a world of mystery...
  9. I don't know much about MAs, what would be the difference between a Judo Olympic match and a Tae Kwan Do Olympic match? Why don't they have karate in there?
  10. Sick of soccer and basketball eh? Yes, I did soccer for quite a while but never felt very passionate about it. "Kick the ball, kick the ball a few different ways. Now master kicking the ball." Not very exciting, but in karate it's this huge learning curve where you can have been doing for 10 years and only be scratching the surface. It works for me, because if I am sick of one thing I know that we'll always be doing something else later on. If you're sick of kicking the ball, you're screwed.
  11. Whenever you get home have your butler suddenly attack you to keep your reflexes sharp. That and pick fights with old ladies on the street... damn those old women.
  12. Thanks for your answers, I posted it under Korean Martial Arts and also got some very good replies. Sadly I do not think I get ESPN.
  13. With the summer Olympics just gone I am sorry I did not get a chance to see any of the martial arts competitions. What divisions are there? What styles usually dominate? Are there harder competitions (more eliminations) for men because there are more men competing? What nationalities usally compete? How physical does it get? Also, what sports channels televises karate competitions regularly?
  14. Don't start speaking with a japanese accent. Don't challenge kids younger than you to fights and then when your sensei remprimands you whine "But we're all at the same skill level!"

  16. I am new here and at karate, what styles train with anything like a quarter staff?
  17. I've seen some pretty good gis online at eBay for good prices, and I haven't had any bad tales from the six items I've ordered. The great thing with the sellers is you can check if they are a good seller (on time, what you ordered) or a bad seller (Blitz, I guess). Belts for students would be a different matter though...
  18. Does anyone know where I can get very good new Kyokushin Karate DVDs online?
  19. What some people do (with weak bones, I think) is just to sit in a regular chair and tense, but don't move your calf muscles and hold the contraction for 10 seconds. And then your quads, gluts, abdominals, etc. untill you have done most muscles in your body. I use this when I have to be the passenger in the car for long periods of time. It keeps me from getting really edgy.

  21. When exercising it is best to leave a day between workouts. The day after you exercise is when your muscle is building its self up and if you work out that day your muscle begins to catabolize (eat) its self. So if you exercise hard for days in a row your workouts will be self-defeating. This is also why some people take steroids, to stop this catabolization. But good as steroids may be for building muscle mass they screw up your mind and body permenantly.
  22. Nick_UKWC I totally know how you feel. Where I go to school there are so many moronic people it sickens me.
  23. Jules... how small is the smallest bouncer you know? Is there a Mighty Mouse out there?
  24. What kind of practice are you doing? You can't be in a real dojo doing one pinan or whatever for two straight hours. You could be doing it at home with a really good tape, but it's never as good as a dojo. Unless you're not watching the tape.... the tape is watching you! And talking! It takes so long to learn things, because not only are you trying to remember things you need for your current grading, you are trying to remember things you won't need for a few more belts (think ura).
  25. A person I know, not that I'd call him a friend, dressed up like a student of karate. He acted like a fool and didn't know any proper moves. He deserved a hand upside the head.
