  6. It seems harder to gain blackbelt here than in the dojo LOL
  7. My sensei got awarded his red and white , but he declined it wanting to carry on with wearing Black
  8. I'd suggest you ask to be put in protection wing, as you sound like your not ready to go inside , let alone protect yourself from hardend criminals. may i ask what time frame are you looking at to be away from us.. you don't have to answer
  9. Where do i start? First is this is not a "Anti-Martial art video" as previousley stated it is about pre-emtive strikes, and being prepared conshiousley about the surroundings, And to add when talking about distances or bridging the gap, you have no knowlege in the street as there is NO gap/ Distance you can't stand in Zenkusu Dachi etc you will be attacked from behind or social stance etc When saying you are over trained does not mean that martial arts is useless, but when on the streets its a different ball game than in a compitition, in other words they are trying to get the point across when attacked you have a split second to react, and with martial art training, you know that many different ways to disable an attacker that you get MENTAL LOG JAM and thats it game over, because you took to long to think about it. the best way to overcome this is to practise up to 2 very simple moves and practise practise practise practise until you do not have to THINK about this when in a situation on the street. there IS a difference between Martial arts and Self defence, and what does and does not work in the street.. The 2 fighters at the start are leading Martial arts/ self defence experts who have a wealth of experiance between them... they are Peter Consterdine and Geof Thompson.. if you ever get to train with these guys or watch some of ther DVD's you will make sense of it all................
  10. We here in England have National Health (free) for any injuries etc, but we make up for it in other taxes
  11. This is a very difficult one to respond to, either way this "DUDE" so to speak would of been brushed off. But then his disrespect to say your instructor is a rookie, i think he would have been limping out of our dojo. To be truthfull i think i would have said come out side for a chat and give this guy a good hideing... please dont preach about discipline on my answer, as your allowed to look the other way once a year LOL
  12. The problem with this is that your grades are only recognised within your own club, Don't shoot the messenger, i'm only repeating what i have heard time and time again............... what's your view..?
  13. i've heard of students who are Blackbelts in a particular style, then go to another simialar style get the same Dan grade with in the year an so forth, then advertise thay are blackbelts in several different dtyles, surley this is the back door of aquiring grades...
  14. Yeah you get ripped off. i know some organisations that charge £450 for a Dan grade and some that charge £50 for the same Dan Grade, with the same recognition/ractification
  15. I am surprised you watched the whole 3:05! I just watched the first 30 seconds. I couldn't do much more after that. I agree
  16. And old saying here I'D RATHER BE TRIED BY 12, THAN CARRIED BY SIX
  17. The law here in England has changed, you do not have to wait to be struck upon to defend oneself, it is called a pre-emptive strike on your behalf. If you feel there is no way out and your in danger. you have to use it. With regards to if you kill him, this is a tricky one, it here may come down to man slaughter in court. The United Kingdom has some very un-defined laws pertaining to sel defence. The law themselves seem fully clear, what are NOT so clear are the interpretations of these laws. Put as simply as we can for the general understanding requred by YOU as a self- defence instructor, the law states that you are entitled to defend your self using reasonable force. The difficulty here is the definition of reasonable.... what is reasonable? If for example a 13 year old lighty built girl was attacked by a 20 stone man intent on rape, and in defending herself, she stabbed him with a pair of scissors ONCE, which allowed her to escape, but he bled to death. Now most people would assume she did the right thing and call it REASONABLE force in that instance. However, turn the tables, and have the scool girl attack the 20 stone man... would it be reasonable for HIM to defend himself using scissors, Obviously not.. the words REASONABLE therefore is open to interpretations, so provided you try to do the least you can to get away and home safely, you are probably within the law..
  18. Hi Welcome.. Thats a new one fior me , i never heard of Hokori shin ? your learn more everyday
  19. I found your discription very funny, but spot on. i have a couple of students like that in my class. i think they are sent to us from above to test us if not just to wake us up a little and face reality... LOL
  20. Does anybody know how to correctly stack tiles for breaking , and what do you use between each one. what are the best to break, the ones i have seen are about 1/2 inch thick.
  21. I totally agree with this, because here in england you have three years to make a claim for injury, by having a record of who attends or who has left for example. it helps you to protect your own back...... plus the attendance factor, as we have a minimum required before grading.. It also helps you work out the no. of students you had on the same day last year, and why if the less now
  22. YOU WROTE "quote" i am new here. I have been training in Karate for over 20 years and hold 4th Dan. In recent years I have come to the conclusion that practising Kata is ineffective. "You need to find the true bunkai, and redeem yourself"
