Probably even harder to find - although I did once find something on it...but look for Shukokai Kata's Shukokai is Tani-Ha Shito Ryu. Only problem is we don't "officially" do Kata's like Rohai or Anan! Good Luck anyway!

Well put it this way Pal: Ur never going to get any younger and you can't turn back time! So dwelling on the fact that you didn't start when you were younger isn't going to get you anywhere is it?! So just knuckle down and get on with it. If the pursuit of excellence is what you want then do it. Stop dwelling on age and crack on Son! harsh mode> I am only 21 myself but have been doing Martial Arts since I was 7 (tiny tot as you'd maybe say) and I don't want to compete in anything! That's just my choice. I do it for the skills, the enjoyment and he practical self defence. Each to their own for their resons for training! Good Luck to you and just go for it!

Well I got some Hayashi Thai pads - about £30 for pair and they are fine and dandy!!!! So I guess it just depends on luck!

His strikes are karate(ish) I guess - but he has also done Capoiera! As for Yoga - I wish I could stop being so lazy and do some myself - flexibility and muscle tone are the main benefits so I understand! -
BJJ question.

I agree - just double check his background and find who he got his black belt from. But he seems genuine and not overly interested in the money - means he is in it for the love of it - not the money! And as for just being blue belt - what are you?! (not meant offensively) I'm guessing you are a total BJJ beginner - so he can teach you something. Remember that Sensei isn't necessarily a black belt - it means "one who came before"! Good luck buddy! -

Ok - I am trying to get the japanese names together to answer this. I have a few faves: Kata Guruma / Shoulder Wheel http://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/kataguruma.htm Harai Goshi / Sweeping Hip(or Sweeping loin) [urlhttp://https://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/haraigoshi.htm[/url] Hane Goshi / Spring Hip http://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/hanegoshi.htm Ippon Seonagi / One Arm Shoulder Trow http://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/ipponseoi.htm and finally: Tawara Gaeshi / Rice Bail - although at Ju Jitsu we do this move slightly differently to the move shown in the link here. We do this as an offensive move almost - with the head hooked! http://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/tawaragaeshi.htm Only thing is - looking through throws reminds me that I just love throwing FULL STOP! -
Ok - Shukokai karate has recently added a red belt into the system. It goes like this: White (no grade) Red Yellow Orange Green Blue Purple Brown 1st tag (One horizontal white stripe round the end of the belt) Brown 2nd tag Brown 3rd Black As far as I know - the colours started when nobody had different coloured belts. because it was considered bad luck o wash the belts, the more you trained - the darker your white belt became cos of the blood, sweat and tears of training! hehe Hence the further development of the colour system. But I also heard that Judo was the first Martial Art to develop the colour system of belts? In TaeKwon Do it is very interesting. the belt lifecycle is similar to a plant lifecycle. White symbolises innocence. Yellow is the Sun nourishing the seed planted (new martial artist) Green is the first shoots (representing the leaves) Blue is growing towards to sky - as skill develops. Red (different) but symbolises danger of nearly being black belt. Black symbolises proficiency! So that's my 2cents!

Yeah - I think the guy clearly knows how to fight - he has close relations with Wally Jay of Small Circle Ju Jitsu. And he clearly knows how to make someone tap! Looks great for Hollywood moves don't it?! -
Exactly how hard is it to fight a Capoiera master?
username9 replied to username9's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks to those guys who have given a serious answer. Granted the question was slightly vague but it was meant to be - I was just looking for opinions and experiences from people who have actually trained with Capoiera fighters. Shorinryu Sensei - thanks for the useless answer! (I'd just wait for him to finish and smack him) - Dead clever that! -
Mastering BJJ

Well I reckon that it should take longer to get a black belt in a lot of arts - if you are good then you are good - fair enough. But it should never just be that someone is given a black belt cos they have done x amount of years. A Black belt used to be such a formidable thing - now adays if you go to enough classes and tick the right boxes you will probably get a black belt in something! What do you guys think?! -
I like this Kata - we do it in Shukokai as an "extra" Shukokai came from Shito-ryu so no suprise

I like your sig TKD thug! "I shall not be judged by what style I know, but how I apply that style againsts yours..." -
It is just nice to hear about it - people in other topics were picking on a yser called kev for claimng Shukokai used pads and stuff for practising - that was a Shukokai development. Kimura developed that power by applying plyometric power to things so I hear!
-
^^ That is how we get them explained to us. But Sensei Iain Abernethy might disagree in his books. Try some plyometric training to start with - that way your muscles will become more "explosive" and you should get to jump higher. Secondly - tuck your knees right up when you jump - that way it gives the effect of a higher jump!
-
Don't fight the guy!! Simply from the law side of things- if someone gets severely hurt for some reason then you can't go down the root of claiming it was a spontaneous reaction - you're pre-meditating a fight!
-
You can't learn a new art from scratch from a book. But you can learn the basics and maybe more in a similar style or art. eg. I have done Ju jitsu for 3 years now and I have learned some submission stuff from a book eg2 (hehe) I have bought a book on Krav Maga and have picked some moves/concepts up because they are similar to Karate that I have studied for about 13 years
-
GOod stuff - what was he like as a sensei?!
-
Well I used to date a girl from my Class when I was ur age wtKempo. But in class I used to teach her cos I was shodan by then. She was still 5th or 6th kyu or something - but it didn't mean I didn't look at her and think - yummy! But I am fed up of being on the recieving end of girls glaring at me and DRESSING me with their eyes! lol

What r u doing tonight honey?! Hehe. But taiji fajin - you are 6ft tall and only 155 pounds - this is the thing - I am 5ft 11 and I weigh about 200 pounds!!!! Everyone is shocked when I tell them cos I don't look it - but I used to weight train a fair bit and am just generally heavy! Like I say - not particularly fat - just damn heavy! The wierd thing was as a kid I was so skinny and light! But I'm getting off the point now! -
Where is your Martial Arts "Home"??
username9 replied to username9's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Good answers coming out here guys - I still don't really know what I can consider my home - I think mainly japan like I said - but I enjoyed TKD - and I study BJJ quite a lot. But I guess I am still rooted in Japanese arts! -
The 13,13 /14,14 joke is great - I have heard it before but I forget it quite often - But I do LOVE that joke. How do you make a Cat go "Woof"?? Pour Petrol on it and light it!
