It may be true that you and your club believe this ... but, sadly, it would be naïve to assume that this was every karateka's point of view. Precisely my point. I know it isn't every karateka's point of view, but IMO it SHOULD BE every karateka's point of view. If we are learning dangerous and/or deadly techniques it our RESPONSIBILTY to use this knowledge wisely! It should be used wisley the whole foundation of Karate is conflict deescalation. there is a saying "if your hand lashes out hold your temper if your temper lashes out hold your hand" ps dont forget as a MA the courts will hold you to a higher standard than the general public.

I Hate when writers slander an entire "community" weather it be Martial arts, law enforcement , ect...just because of a few bad apples and their limited knowledge of a subject -
you could always put one in the back yard

And what about the freaks of nature in the NFL and NCAA how fun would it be to have to defend vs. a 6'6'' 330lb beast that benches 500+ lbs and can move quicker than your average person

Is Humility becoming a lost art in MA's?
longarm25 replied to foreveryoung001's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
being humble does not necessarily mean that you allow people to trample you. Further more too much self assurance could end up being a negitive. -

So humility isn't the case for me (at least not the type when you let yourself trampled by anyone, just because they are superior in rank). being humble does not necessarily mean that you allow people to trample you -
sounds like it went well

I think it depends where you look(if you look hard enough you might find them). but one things is for sure the ones that are not taught humility stand out like a sore thumb and they bring shame upon themselves -
Matsumura Sokon broke down fighting arts into three sections 1- gakushi no budo-stratagey game 2-miemoku no bugei -physical tech focusing on winning with out consideration of values. 3-budo no bugei-genuine methods practiced with moral preceps.(The Art) Do you think that to many schools/styles/individuals focus on miemoku no bugei(just learning how to fight and not how they act) rather than concentrating onbudo no bugei (the art as a whole)? Also do you think those that practice in a miemoku no bugei manner give the MA's a bad name?
