Do you still remember and practice the early kata?
Bleeding Lion replied to baronbvp's topic in Karate
kata is very important as it structures the art. if you cant do a perfect kata, i doubt you can do perfect techniques in a fight. then again, if somebody argues we dont need perfect technique in a real fight, why then study the art? for me kata is the undisputable base of technique application. for me it is what mathematics are to physics, chemistry, computer science, finance... -
he sells that stuff. hes still in business. conclusion: people buy that stuff. hence the following question: what is disgusting, him selling these or people buying it?

How to get 6-pack Abs [for those interested]
Bleeding Lion replied to BoxerScott's topic in Health and Fitness
I havent read the replies really but one minor correction i need to do is about the bulking/cutting process. it is not true that you cant bulk and cut at the same time. though it is generally true, some people can do it though its more difficult. you just need the right knowledge, will, and genes. -
consider HIIT (high intensity interval training) google it, it is very useful to melt down that fat layer over your abs.

I disagree with everything said so far and let me explain why. First of all, 1finger push ups are very impressive indeed but they are not done for satisfy one's ego. It is a proof of perseverance and dedication. Moreover, many said they dont see the use of practicing 1-finger push ups. What you are truely missing is that a person who practices it may NOT practicing it for strength or conditionning. It is essentially and paradoxically a mind exercise. It is all about focusing on the fact it is doable, eliminating every thought that you can't do it. The human body is capable of many amazing things but the mind holds it back. 1-finger push ups is an exercise that is about conditionning your mind, relaxing the limitation it can have on your abilities. For the record, i cant do 1 finger push ups. Im practicing 2-finger push ups and so far i can do only 2 (i started about 2 months ago). It is an interesting challenge really.

What does BB really mean to you?
Bleeding Lion replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i also agree with the self-challenging aspect of MA. BB for me is also synonym of profficiency and a symbol of everything required to aquire it, dedication, will, you name it. -
i will buy 10 of these for 10th dan (or maybe 8-9 to appear less suspicious): goju, shotokan, judo, aikido,....you name it. everybody should bow when i log on to kf.com.

Have you ever heard about a student failing a belt test?
Bleeding Lion replied to Bleeding Lion's topic in Karate
Thanx for the replies. 1 reason why i was also asking is because i feel like tests i attended to were not rigorous enough. I might be wrong or simply higher standards or maybe it doesnt have to look like an academic type test. -
Unfortunately my school does NO free sparring. Not even lightly every now and then. I really regret that as I would really like to test my skills against other people, especially higher belts. I can understand why kata would be considered essential to trainning. But what is the point of having excellent technique if you've never had sparring experience and cant do it right when you fight? Not to sound cheesy but Bruce Lee said something like "a fighter who has never fought is like a swimmer who has never been in water" and that is how i feel about the whole thing. Well, I guess I need to go out there and fight with whoever i can! (j/k)

Hey, very nice website dave. it is a very useful thing to have a list of Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan schools.
-
In my (rather limited) experience in MAs I have never saw or heard about someone failing a test, not even a black belt test which is supposedly very difficult. If it is true that the passing rate is very high (90% +), what is the reason? Senseis lowering standards and failing to make challenging tests or their ability to judge which students are ready for a higher belt test?

hey no prob master jules shihan is celebrating his 50th year of teaching this week. i couldnt go to nebraska because i have to prepare for 3 exams on next week. i was wondering if some people went there.
-
im typing kind of fast: its shihan john ROSEBERRY. his dojo is in nebraska and is the headquarters of mine. toguchi was his teacher and shinjo his sempai. when he created his association he merged the two names (shorei kan and shobu kan). Thats the association im talking about. im just wondering who else is under this association.
-
Oh yes you are right, but im talking about shihan rosberry's organization. He named it this way because he studied under seikichi toguchi and had some kind of relationship with shinjo's organization.
-
Im practicing go ju ryu under Shorei Shobu Kan Association. Is there any other go ju practitioner under that association here?
-
I DID IT!!!!!! I just did my first 2-finger push up!!!! It kind of hurt though, but im so proud of myself.
-
Please do, I would love to know how you achieved that. By the way, congratulations on that performance, it is absolutely amazing, especially being 17.

Worst Idea Ever = Beatings
Bleeding Lion replied to Knifehand007's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Make sure you do something to spice it up: Right after you both salute each other at the beginning of the fight, tell him "so...i got good news...i got your daughter pregnant". Im quite sure it would be a very interesting fight. -
Like it or not, MAs can be considered as a specialized field. What I mean is, it is not knowledge essential for everyday matters or even considered highly important within general culture. Many people here can say MAs are part of their sphere of competence to a some degree and knowledge-wise that is, but you cannot expect other people to have a decent understanding of it. I started GoJu recently, before that I didnt know much stuff about MAs in general, even less about the origins of the different styles. But how much do you know about computer science? do you know what RETE algorithm is without googling it? and what about cache-friendly code? See, comp sci is my field, but I cant expect you to know much about it.
-
so sandhoppa, do you actually go to ALL days of practice?
-
I regret that i didnt continue karate when i was 9 or so. I didnt do any martial art after that. i could have beneficiated the big impact MAs has on me a lot earlier.
-
how old are you Mtal?
-
