  1. his death touch actually had some effect. i almost slept seeing that video...
  2. we just got a makiwara, im looking forward to using it.
  3. hey, sorry i didnt fully explained why i felt 2 months at that dojang would not be that beneficial: - its a small class (around 12 students) , with 80% of students younger than 8, and most of the other adults being some of their parents. we spend too much time on discipline, not enough on training imo, and practice is really structured for their age i would say. i like kids so it was fun, but i can see why people would be frustrated in class. - i certainly didnt look tradditional, something i would like. for instance, the headmaster and owner is a 1st dan, and his two assistants are 2nd and 3rd dan respectively. - its $100 a month!!! he said he could do something about the price, but being a college student i definitely dont want to pay much. especially considering the fact that i practice goju ryu at the university so its free. All in all, thanx to the class i attended to showed me how much cross training in general and tkd in particular can be valuable. it really made me look tkd much more favorably.
  4. yeah, give it a try, i completely see what you mean, i ranked it #1 just because it its $420 a year compared to $600 for the 2nd cheaper. I dont know about you, but as a college student, price would definitely influence my choice.
  5. breaking brick/boards is counter productive for fights as hitting a solid object is not the same thing as hitting a body mostly composed water (65% if i recall). for one (the solid object) you punch through it completely but for the other (a human body) you punch then stop your fist (or whatever) at impact to produce the more devastating wave effect. about using fire: it actually helps, and its effect is mostly for the show. breaking a dry board/brick is far easier than breaking a moist one. if it is moist, the humidity can potentially make your fist slip. That said, I love breaking boards an bricks. The 2 2-inch bricks stacked atop one another is also my signature move, I havent tried 3 yet. Doing it at 13 is really crazy, good job.
  6. why would soldier be anonymous while warrior is not? i think those terms are interchangeable. completely out of topic: if the number of blossoms continuously change on that tree, you can still count them many times, get a median, average, upper bound and lower bound to get an approximate but realistic idea how many they are.
  7. like sam said, as long as you can keep everything separate in your head, go for it. and if you do, dont do the mistake of saying "thats not how we do it in style X" in the school of style Y.
  8. i suggest you do one practice with each and decide. i would rather do an art i didnt really want to do with a teacher i know i'll love than the opposite. randomly, if i had to pick one out of the info you provided, this would be my (very) personal choice, taking price in account: 1) Tang Soo Do #1 ($35/month unlimited) 2) Kenpo School ($60/month unlimited) 3) Kempo School #2 ($85/month unlimited) 4) BJJ School #2 ($75/month twice a week) 5) Kempo School #1 ($70/month unlimited)
  9. Well, i dont recommend it every time you can make a move, but all im saying is that its not a technique to simply toss out of your repertoire. Being risky (i'll admit that) it is however very rewarding when used properly. You risk something for a greater reward, just as in judo where you lose some of your balance to totally unbalance your opponent.
  10. my own interpretation of goju ryu. not too exciting, but wait til you hear the name: goju ryu bleeding lion style, ha! i'll add a kata using the devastating lion claw technique.
  11. at the dojo, we train 3 times a week for 2 hrs, streching included. however, i always practice kata or other techniques on my own but i dont know how much time i spend on that.
  12. Hey Dark Shogun: Nice to see somebody else that like that part too. I dont know much about shisochin kata (im just 8th kyu) but i like using techniques from katas. JimmyNewton: I always practice katas as if im actually fighting with someone, thats the reason why i would answer yes to your question. It depends on the techniques, but i really like the one in gekisai i described before. But like Dark Shogun pointed out, i only answer with theory as i dont get into live situations. who knows if i would control my adrenaline enough to use those moves.
  13. i dont understand why ppl jump quickly to say high kicks in general (w/ or w/o jumping) are bad in real scenarios. time properly they can be devastating.
  14. id like to repackage some stuff and be that successful.
  15. same position as in one hand push ups. feet spread apart and hand about halfway between them (for balance purposes). However, i put my index forward, my thumb behind, and my elbow goes side ways as i get lower. I put my other hand on my hip, ready to intervene in case im about to bust my chin
  16. that makes me think, has any movie attempted using capoeira before?
  17. kung fu hustle was mad funny!
  18. anything that hasnt been exploited before. i loved ong bak because i didnt see a movie using muay thai and emphasizing on powerful elbows/knees blows that much. In fighting scenes i also appreciate humor, a show of flexibility, speed and power strikes. iron monkey is a good example. good luck on that movie. i always appreciate an atempt of originality even if it doesnt succeed as much as planned.
  19. I participated, and it was very cool. The sensei let me get on the mat despite having goju ryu patch and belt. I liked kicking above the waist. that was fun. Im not sure I'll go again though, and wont have much time next semester, so why bother taking this only for a month or 2?
  20. if a situation escalade and looks uncontrolable, i attack first. Usually in very few situations ive been to, my confidence and calm dissuade people. I'll take that any time.
  21. i always want to get paired with the best student i can find in the dojo. only one day, we had to do some exercise and i didnt really understand what it was about and didnt mind getting paired with our dojo's top student, even though everybody was avoiding him. it was a arm conditioning exercise!!! oh man i dont remember my arms hurting so much after that.
