Hey guys. I have a test coming up in mid October. This will be my first belt test, I know the forms for my yellow belt, and my orange. I can't decide if I should double test or not. I asked the master for his oppinion and he said that I might be ready, but another orange belt said that he doesnt think that I am ready. The thing is, I never really liked that one person, so should I believe him, or go for my orange belt? Also, if I do test, I have to snuff out a candle with my sword, while sitting on my knees, do you have any tips to help me?

Hm, thats odd. My teacher said that Kendo was a branch of HDGD. He also said that the Samurang came from Korea, went to Japan and became Samurai. I wonder if thats a lie too. -

Nope, im talking about Haidong Gumdo. Haidong uses mostly large wide swings from the center of your back going through to about your belt. It also has large arching swings that go from above your shoulder, all the way to your opposite ankle. And Kendo is a branch of Haidong. I have a tournament tommorow, I'll try and post some pictures. -

LOL. Hahaha, that was good. -
Have any of you heard of Haidong Gumdo? It's not too big in the U.S. Its the first martial arts that I have ever tried. Its a quite hard sword fighting style. Haidong Gumdo have some hard stances like soto-se, wich really work your legs. You should check it out at https://www.hdgd.org

At my school, counting, stances, cuts, forms and everything are in Korean. If you cant learn it, you get left behind. It kinda sucks.. -

Im not sure if its been said already, but to help me condition my arms for my sword class there is a certain posre you have to hold, and its fricken impossible. What you want to do is, stand with your feet together and take your feet and pivot them on your heels, so you make a V shape with your feet. Then do the opposite, lift your heels and push them out so you make a / \ shape with your feet. Then pivot on the heels again so you make a \ / shape, then pivot again on your toes so they are making the / \ shape. After that, buckle your knees inward so from the front your body should look like this: \ \ / / / / \ \ Be able to ONLY fit TWO FISTS inbetween your knees. After that, raise your hands up to just about 2-3 inches above your head, make sure that the back of your hands are facing TOWORDS you. Raise your right hand slightly above your left bend your elbows slightly. You now have the basic pose down, stick your butt out you are leaning forward, now straighten your back as much as possible. Now try and hold that for more than 15 minutes. Sorry if thats a little confusing.
