  3. Yes, the "outside belter" will not hold a higher "rank status" than our own. They may "look" like it, but they are not. A student that forgets their bekt, probably really doesn't have that rank. Some systems that I had trained, disregard the rank. There isnt any such colored belt or sash.

  11. kbgirl Thats what I am trying to determine, the "classification" of McDojo. If you look at how I started...I ask the question with "DOES". This does not mean that I am stated that these ARE the guidelines. And I had posted, what ever classfies as a "McDojo", does it have benefits than "book/video training", or no training at all. So, if it is a McDojo, doesn't McDojos have some quality, benefits, and standards?
  12. India-Egypt history is far vast to explain. I would have to recover notes of specifics, so post a specifc question that I may respond to
  13. but generally, the chinese we have now is standardised so the anomalies are very few and very far between. yes anomlaies are few (nowadays), but going back to the structure/orgin/interpretation/mis-interpretation. Not as the like of it nowadays but this is where another problem arises. certain characters, especially those that originated in the north have elements from another language. as a result, there might be some confusion about what that particular part might originally mean. This is what I am trying to convey. Interpretation/misinterpretation/confusion you'll find that this rarely happens. two of the kitchen staff at one of my uncles restaurants speak a dialect of mandarin that i've never heard of. one waitress speaks with a shang-hai dialect and my aunt only knows grammatical mandarin. my uncle only speaks cantonese but knows how mandarin is structured. Again, per it spoken nowadays. And that uncle KNOWS how Manadarin is structure, so the communication is easier. mis-interpretations in the same language only tends to happen when you take singular terms. Yes, that is what I am talking about. and again i go back to my example. if i were to just say 'pear' out aloud, you won't know if i meant 'pear', 'pare', or 'pair'. but that same word, said within the context of a conversation, would be understood perfectly Taking each per origin, would lead to find that one or more did not particulary existed long ago. Those that were, had a one singular meaning, those after, a distintion had to me made. Yes, to what you post-per what I am saying also-I agree
  14. Ok DM, to get you started: Chinese eytmology and language- If memory serves: Sino Tibetan, although some scholars disagree that Korean and Japanese share Altiac. Chinese dailects, per major- Manadrin, Catonese, Hsiang, Wu, Hakka, and Min (hope I didnt forget any). Here is the dilema with Chinese eytomology and language- Speakers might not be able to understand each other completely. Thus, certain words that are spoken, can or are interpreted, or mis-interpreted. Although communication is possible in writing, conversely, the meaning/message is read aloud differently by those different speakers. Advantages in Chinese wrting could be offset by the difficulties by each generation that must experience and/or interpret, the complete historic meaning.

  16. What the video doesn't show the other kids that he used to perfect his technique. It would be bad TV if they showed a bunch of 10 year olds all battered and bruised from when he missed during practice. Perhaps, could have happened.

  18. From several etymology courses, it is not merely the study of "word origins", but also of word interpretations and misinterpretations. How people interpret and/or mis-interpret words as well. From these collegiate courses, I had presented many martial art terminology in a effort to "stump" my professors. In fact, one such, had challenged the students to summit words that were difficult to elaborate per etymology. This same professor, had to seek other collegues (as far as Eastern-China/Chinese) on those that I had presented. His findings were interesting and I noted them. So my question to you- And what do you know about Chinese etymology? And that- "I speak and write Chinese" is not what I am talking about. Detailed and historic etymology-have you studied any courses? Like Indian and Egyptian history, etymology discussions can take up a lot of post space.

  20. I do not want to take up post space for a India-Egypt history lesson. If you have time-lots of it is nedded, then start looking up India-Egypt history. Everything is not "Chinese". (China has much to trace back to India-even words-etymology) Yes, I give China "credit" for a lot. One day, I will go there, see and learn more.
