  1. yes it still happens. a friend of mine was challenged after finishing his last class for the evening. 3 guys came up to him and started chatting with my friend after the class and then a few minutes later challenged him. my frien declined. the reason they challenged my friend was because they thought my friend did not have the right to teach the particular style he was teaching. i think it would have been a bit different if these gentlemen did not corner my friend when he was alone.
  2. try https://www.century.com those guys do embroidery.
  3. i agree with sevenstar also capoeira is great for conditioning much like boxing. try it out and let us know.
  4. i think you should stick with it and not worry about the stripes on your belt. you are just a beginner so don't rush things. and yes bb can be beginners too.
  5. 2004 olympics taekwondo. one competitor was taken to the hospital after being knocked out in the early rounds. he was relased from the hospital the following day with having sustained only a concusion. as for the video clip, this is not the olympics but i am sure the competitor did not die. i have been competiting for over 10 years and have never heard of such a thing happening.
  6. sorry tkder but the competitor did not die. and for that matter no one has died in tkd olympic competition.
  7. man it was way off on me. kick boxing boxing muay thai vale tudo
  8. when i judge i also look to see if the person performing the kata is doing so convincingly. meaning that does it look like some one is attacking you or yre you just doing choriographed (sp?)moves.

  14. okay this could be wrong but i will try... group of monks develop a fighting system. all die in an attack on the temple, one survivor. survivor a woman finishes the system of fighting. first student a woman of promonince, possibly a princess. this woman does not want to marry the man she is promised to. the teacher makes a deal with this man. deal is if the princess can beat him in a fight she does not have to marry him. he agrees. princess trains for a year. they fight, she wins.
  15. rf brown, gen. choi learned karate from his calligraphy teacher first of all. the hwa rang do group did exsist. and tkd is not a korean version of karate.
  16. let me think...smashing a chair on someone's head...yeah that is a preety good self defense move.
  17. i have not personaly run into this problem. i have trained under two gm level instructors. i actually researched there careers. but i could see the problem this would create. i will say that i have seen some mid level dans that should not be there. an example that comes to mind...mr x is same age as me, started ma after me, and is two dan grades higher than me. before i left this particular organization (for a second time) i embaressed him on a regular basis. as i started seeing more of this in the organization i left. this was sad because this was not the way it was years ago and i really had good relationships with the people i trained with. and checking out some of the members on here there are a few of you whom belong to this organization. good luck to you.
  18. i feel that ma runs threw my veins. i have been doing ma since a very young age and plan to keep doing so until i no longer can. i always tell students that i can not understand why all people do not take some form of ma. i think of it much lioke religion, a person spends his life studying it just to get a little closer to the truth.
  19. 68 and he started about a year ago. at this time he has many limitations but i think that will change.
  20. Jbone, I'm 5'10'' and can jump kick 9'6'' working on 10 feet. i don't think so. unless with a very big trampoline. but i may be misunderstanding what you are trying to say.
  21. Vito, please expand on this comment? try a more complete striking style like muay thai or boxing...
