There is no set length for a Katana. My brother and I own four different Katana, and their all of differing lengths, the smallest differing by just under 4'' from the largest. So, to say 4'' longer than a Katana isnt a real good indication of length.

I dont only practice kata against invisible opponents, Bunkai is only really effective when its done with partners.

My little brother took Chito-Ryu for about 6months before joining the Kyokushin dojo I was training at, at the time. Just that small amount of training in Chito-Ryu helped him pick up Kyokushin quite rapidly, as it provided him with a good basis for his Karate. OSU.

an excellent website. i had absolutely nothing to do with it, but i use it as a reference to others often, as most of the info is pretty sound. hehehe...........and if your not already a black belt, theres a funky section where you can see what your name will look like on your belt. OSU.

hehe, none of the persons talking about pulling punches and whatnot have ever even seen a Kyokushin tournament for real, let alone ever even contemplate competing in one. the pain is very real, but you never let it show, thats part of the Zen-basis of Kyokushin. ask yourself, if one of those guys punched you in the chest or gut full-force, would you be standing???? come to think of it, how many non-kyokushin blackbelts in this forum could possible do a 40man kumite, let alone 50 or 100man. and dish and cop how many blows............. As for head punches and Kyokushin tournament fighters, yeah, all of 2inches distance between the top of your sternum and base of your chin, maybe less if you huddle in a guard position like many boxers. a good fighter learns to pick their target before they swing a blow. high low or medium, its still targeted with much thought and care. ever had your bare knuckle punch checked by the point of a bare elbow? you learn to pick targets very carefully. Controlling adrenaline shakes....
yamesu replied to zerohour's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
one focus of any style which emphisizes self defence should definantly be addressing the nature of adrenal induced states. i wouldnt be surprized at the amount of people who cant control motorreflex after a hit of adrenaline, trust me, i enjoy adrenaline, but i still cant completely control my adrenal hits, its just something to try to train towards. if we have no exposure to the nature of one thing, how can we possibly understand, let alone have a degree of control of that thing? one thing i cant argue with SevenStar, is that the brain isnt working at normal capacity. the nature of adrenaline is to open up numerous different pathways within the CNS, possible doubling the amount of sensory information on route to the brain, if one was not used to this sensation-----sensory overload, if one can control themself under the adrenal induced state------advantage. -

shuts down you mind.......i dont think so, if anything its like a boost for your neurons, opening new pathways for information to reach the brain, and allow quicker response of muscular and vascular systems, including the synthesis of ADP/ATP. sure, it 'could' cause a sensory overload of the brain when too much information hits the CNS, that is, assuming the user is completely unused to adrenal situations. otherwise adrenaline, (epinephrine,) is pretty-much the chemical that chemist mock to make speed, (psuedoephedrine,) and many military agencies mock in the production of combat-drugs. -
Kyokushinkai uses Neko-Ashi-Dachi as a stance throughout kata and kihon. I love cat stance. I dont think many kicks come close to the speed of a front leg mae-geri from neko-ashi BTW, In Kyokushin, we also use Kokutsu-Dachi, which looks quite the same as Neko-Ashi, but has different wieght proportions on each leg. Although, our Kata still contain both of these stances. Osu.

as for remembering whats what in a fight or some other situation, MA becomes a part of you, and so instead of your body strictly following one style, the styles your body knows intergrate. IMO, everyone developes their own individual style. Again, dont try to learn three MA at once, take your time and let the knowledge come freely. it would be like trying to read three novels at once, and still trying to keep up with the storys of each, instead of reading one after another.

Kendo and Kenpo are different arts. Kendo = Sword Art, performed with a bamboo cane sword called a 'Shinai.' Kenpo = An empty hand art much like Karate, focusing on studied body movement for effectivness, which evolves into the use of weapons. (...My limited knowledge of Kenpo....) As for members who have a million and one styles on there list, well, most of them have prob been training for 25years, and go on to choose styles which will intergrate into their previous knowledge, for best results within their needs/wants. For instance, some peoples may soley focus on fighting, so the cross training they do may be to compliment other areas of their training which is lacking. On the other hand, martial arts may lead some peoples to pursue spiritual aspects, and so choose styles which may compliment this sort of training. Its not unusual, IMHO, for accomplished martial artists to have more than one style under their belt so to speak. [NB, i do realise im not really a Jedi........yet.] I quite personally think it would be difficult to try taking on three arts at once as a beginner, and still maintain different skill levels in all individual arts. If you want to learn another Japanese art, then Karate schools are quite good, and the training in Kobudo, (traditional Okinawan weaponary,) compliments karate quite well. Majority of Japanese sword arts are fairly independant from other arts, and so are very different to learn compared to empty hand styles.

no, there is awsome video footage from the world-open where lightwieght fighters knock heavyweights, even standing toe-to-toe, but the best i think ive seen footage of lechi kurbanov knocking out a Japanese fighter (HW) with a jumping-round-back-kick in the first 5seconds of the fight. thats the way it still is in the good schools. maybe so, but all martial artists take their training beond the hours of the dojo, we all have the capability to train at home, the way we want to... also, dont listen to the jazz about no head shots, headpunches arent allowed in tournaments, yes, but even a good kyokushin tournie fighter knows headpunches. the first moves you prob learn at a kyokushin dojo = jodan-uke, ago-uchi and jodan-tsuki. IMO the only con = not a whole heap of weapons kata, untill blackbelt, where bo-staff can be learned optionally. Osu.
