  1. 4/8 Drilled 1/2 guard passing 1/2 guard passing trouble shooting top 1/2 guard to mount top 1/2 guard to figure 4 knee bar free roll 45 minutes
  2. Right now I would lean towards Judo for the throws and takedown aspect of the art. I have a fairly decent stand up and ground game formulated from from my years in Kenpo and BJJ so I need something for in between. And amazingly I'm going to have ability to do so since the gym I'm training my BJJ at is now offering Judo taught by a pair of amazing judokas. Now I just have to get my but to gym for the classes.
  3. 2/4 Drilled taking back from guard, arm bar from guard being strangled, arm bar/triangle from defending punch. Sparring 45 minutes
  4. Had not heard anything about this. But this doesn't surprise me either. I've heard that they are very difficult to deal with and impossible to get in touch with if you're dealing with a registration issue. Also at tournaments I've heard they make claims about competitors gis or belts being too worn or miss placed patches ect. And give them a choice to be dq'd or by from a vender at the event whose products were marked up 100% over retail.
  5. I drive about and hour and a half one way to train with my BJJ coach once a week. Not much of a sacrifice with the quality of training and training partners I have at the gym.
  6. I've got several playlist that I pull out time to time. They have a wide array of artist from Ralph Stanley and Johnny Cash to Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson. But personally give me a bit of Zombie or Disturbed and I'm good to go. I try to make my playlists start out on the slow side and ramp you up then the end bring you back down.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swZst4sUW9I I think this was what the guy was hoping it would look like.
  8. My neck hurts from seeing that. Hope the guy is ok. I had a miss hap with a flying arm bar several years back that resulted in myself being ko'd. My was due to my head hitting in a separation in the mats ( also not knowing the fine details of the move). I may be wrong but I am in the opinion you need to break you opponents posture some before attempting this move. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this those of you more experienced than myself.
  9. Great videos Brian thanks for sharing. There's also an episode of Walker Texas Ranger were Chuck and the Machado's are doing jiu jitsu in a gym.
  10. I can't imagine too many people so full of their selves that they wouldn't want to spend at least a weekend training with a legend in the martial arts. He preaches cross training in every style one has access to. He was light years ahead of most in the martial arts when he was in his prime.
  11. His stories are amazing. I had the honor several years ago to train with him for a weekend and the stories and training where fantastic. I had a great interview on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast this past Monday. He's definitely one of a kind and I'll never forget the experience of that weekend.
  12. Congratulations to everyone, and I announce that Patrick is the site moderator of the decade, I'm sure everyone here will agree.
  13. It was suggested to me by my instructor as in his opinion one othe best BJJ books to date. I got it before I got my blue belt and still refer to it on occasion to this day. Also Andre Galvao has a book Drill to Win has some excellent drills to build endurance and muscle memory geared to the grappling arts.
  14. For a good BJJ book on the basics check out Jiu Jitsu Univeristy
  15. I've had century iron man that was a bit over $100 and 2 Kurgen BJJ gis and 2 Break Point gis one being limited edition all running well over that $100 mark. I'd say for a decent Gi you're looking at at least $100. Just remember you get what you pay for.
  16. Nope. I think it's one we(meaning I) kept saying we were going to film but never did. And I can't believe how much I have on tape that we don't teach anymore. I really have forgotten more Jiu Jitsu than I teach people, it's amazing. I found a whole series of spider guard sweeps that Ben worked with me right after I got my blue.
  17. And now after searching our YouTube channel and 30 DVDs of video we've taken guess what's never been taped. Doh!! Procrastinating really pays off.lol. I did find a ton of guard passing videos and reversing from under side control but man I wish I'd understood it a bit more before filming these a few years ago.
  18. Yes Brian. My legs will continue past the head in completion of the move. As you know everything with differ according to your partners reaction.
  19. Brian it shouldn't change them much just the grips you'd use. Instead of gripping the sleeve and collar you would use wrist control and neck grip of some sort. But once you get it down it should flow pretty much the same.
  20. Would like to say Happy Veterans Day to everyone on the forums and not who served or are serving. Thank you for filling the boots so many of us were afraid to, and more over thank you for you sacrifices great and small for our country. Godspeed to those active duty.
  21. The 4th brother is just going back to the Omoplata and using it as a sweep to come to top position. The actual drill doesn't include the Omoplata sweep. I just named it the 4th Brother for mine and Shorikid's school so we would remember it.
  22. Just thought you may want to check out Andre Galvao's book drill to win. It's not exactly what you're looking for but it will help with some other areas you will be needing in the future by drilling to build muscle memory. Also Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's Mastering Mixed Martial Arts: The Guard, it not drill specific but it could give you some good ideas of what you could do.
  23. I don't necessarily go in with a game plan as to what I'm going to do in what order. Instead I have goals set to attempt a combination or move. How ever the times I go in with a game plan it seems I get so fixated on what I what to do I get punched in the face and the whole game changes then. I do the best when I have the mind set of this is going to hurt so let's get to it. Like some many have said "everyone has a plan till the get punched in the face".
  24. Well written Harkon. But those kind of nights are what separates us from the regular guys out there and the one that are there because of another reason other than passion for the arts.
  25. Well according to Gene LeBell he and Segal were on a movie set and they were discussing things that happen when choking people out. LeBell said if someone has relieved theirself in a while they may do so when choked out because the body relaxes so much. And Segal went on to state is was bull and Lebell couldn't choke him out. Well They agreed to try and well Segal went to sleep and deficated on himself and LeBell then put him in a broom closet because he smell like.. well you know. Segal now denies this happened but Gokor and Gene both say it's on tape in Gene's personal archives.
