  1. i use either...my chain nunchuckas do not use ball bearing....and sing very well and are actually shorter....i had them specially made though it was very expensive they work well....i also use the string ones....both have draw backs...and both have advantages thus i utilize both so i can be good at both...
  2. what are your favorite weapons in shotokan?
  3. is your opponent is large try to make your body smaller...a smaller target is harder to hit...also it is wise to keep your hands up and learn those trapping techniques!
  4. i got the info from an ancient tex in a book written by a japanese archeologist...for the most part tkd is neither ancient or new...if i find the book i'll be glad to give you the title...they were from ancient text written during i believe the silla dynasty...it incororates some of the ancient tkd styles with some of the japanese styles...which are believed to have originated in korea...its kinda complicated to explain but i'll look for the book...
  5. hi every one...when sparring you must realize that it is only for points...but like both of my grand masters told me...in a fight you must learn to follow through with your kicks...how do you follow through with your kicks...first a person must be willing to hit a person...in tkd that person must know how to use it correctly for it to be any good...most koreans when using tkd for fighting learn to kick the knees, groin and other lower parts and only kick high if you have a chance...also for the most part they suggest learning a form of grappling martial art like hapkido and judo...because tkd is know to be incorporated into other martial arts very smoothly...a fighter must learn to keep a distance they are comfortable with...if you do not know if a technique will work than just do it!...i created this thread so people may give tips or ask questions...so good luck and best wishes to all
  6. im korean...i study hapkido, tae kwond, tang soo do, hwrang do
  7. in tkd there are 2 ways to throw a round house...with the ball or the instep...the ball of your foot is for combat while the instep was for sparring...
  8. The man who made Bruce Lee who he is...the man who bruce lee could never hit until a few months before his death when they were sparring they managed to hit each other!...if it were a real fight wong shun leung said they both would have been hurt extrememly bad though wong shuns hit would have been more serious!...both were also very close friends and respected each other like brothers...they both will be remembered
  9. if every one were perfect than what is the reason to living...thus we are not perfect so we strive to perfect our self being....
  10. well....both are not as traditional as people may think...tang soo do is supposed to be the ancient for, of taekwondo...there is no true traditionality....every thing changes...
  11. technically the katas were not "stolen" in tkd there are pictures of them doing similar forms before japanese rule and ancient documents show that koreans had taught japanese diplomats martial arts at one time...to say some thing was stolen is incorrect now some of the forms were lost so they incorporated some japanese forms into it...but it is now know that the black belt forms were indeed not from any japanese martial art...like all martial arts it begins to change so nothing is really traditional...its like a computer...if you dont up date it it becomes old
  12. no...i have not but i would be inerested...
  13. words are the strongest weapon of all...you can start wars just as easiy as ending them.
  14. lol...wat you don't have any knowledge about any-thing?...
  15. who is the wiser...the big mouth bully who gets into trouble or the man who knows when to shut up
  16. Knowledge is the essence of life without it you would just be a rock...under the sun.
  17. think of martial arts as being air...can be free and graceful yet may also devestating to the touch...lol...like a 75 mph gudt of wind [ This Message was edited by: mastertae on 2002-01-01 16:32 ]
  18. A punch is not just a punch in a fight it is survival. A person should be like a tree swaying in the breeze for flexibility is a virtue and if the tree cannot bend and adapt it will tumble and fall.
  19. lol..if you can parrie and faint and use the side steps well enough you won't get hit in the face...Im taking a class by 9th degree blk belt Master do and 8th degree blk belt master yoon...but of course blocking is still imporant in taekwondo
  20. in a bb mg. they interviewed a guy who can do 16 punches in 1 sec and said many of his students wre faster...Bruce lee from three feet back could punch a person in 5 tenth of a second...up close he would have than been hitting you many times before a sec! if you want to do the math the from three feet he can do about 2-3 hits in a second...from 2 feet (a whole foot is alot different) he would probably be doing almost twice that fast so around 4-6 punches in 1 sec...from i foot about 8-12 punches a secod...from strikng distance with elbows nd knees...(a few inches) around 16-24 punches in a second! Which mkes sene since he could do punches in between frams that were 24 frames per/second...I read about the 16-24 punches in a secnd in another magazine wth the same man that could do 16 punches in a sec...that is the same estimate he had for how fast bruce lee ws with his hands...but what was astonishing is bruce lee never lost any power in his hits at any speed!
  21. awesome...Bruce Lee was taught tai chi from his father before doing wing chun...thought that was interesing too...that bruce's actual first martial art was tai chi!
  22. I dont thnk would stop using martial arts, but I believe he wouldn't work as hard...he also enjoyed directing so he probably wouldn't be in as much movies instead he'd probably make the movies
