Muay Thai vs. Taekwondo with "Muay Thai rules!"....When I first saw the v-neck uniform of the taekwondoist, I sensed that he would lose..(W.T.F stylists where V-necks) .I am a practioner of three tae kwon do styles(I.T.F, Korean Karate, and the W.T.F) HOwever, I have such animosity against the W.T.F organization. The W.T.F gives Tae kwon do a bad name when their members attend an open style tournament or enter the U.F.C! A W.T.F tae kwon do stylist should avoid sparring against another style of martial arts, because the W.T.F has developed rules that restricts the use of punches!! When a Muay Thai goes against a W.T.F Tae kwon do stylist, the W.T.F tae kwon do stylist is playing against his odds...The Muay Thai stylist has 4 weapons to use and he sure did use them all in the match!(his two hands, and his two feet) The w.t.f stylist favorites are his two feet, and rarely his two hands... Now, let's specifically critisize the W.T.F tae kwon do stylist in the movie...sigh..Why the heck would he kick to the head!! The muay thai stylists low kicks have a definite advantage over high kicks...(It takes forever for a high kick to connect!). The TKD stylist didn't have a good understanding of distance!! HE would kick too far or too close!! The TKD stylist also had his hands down..sigh..I know that this is only one match and that it cannot be representative of all W.T.F stylists; however, the fact is W.T.F stylists are more confident with their feet rather than their hands. Also, W.T.F stylists ususally strike in only one range, which is only the kicking range! The TKD doist in the video was not experienced..I know a more experienced W.T.F stylist could of had a better chance, but would probably still lose since he is not used to striking with punches in close range...If the Muay Style stylist fought against an I.t.F stylist or a Korean karate stylist, I'm sure there would of been more hope for the Tae kwon do stylist. (I.T.F stylists and KOrean karate stylists especially, use lots of hands.) I just want everyone to know that there are many styles out there!!! It's not only the Olympic style of tae kwon do...Other tae kwon do styles do a lot of boxing as well as kicks. I also think the W.T.F is great, only in it¡¯s own organization and ring¡¦.In my view under my criteria for self-defense fighting, the W.T.F scores low¡¦Under my criteria for sports fighting, it scores high.. Remember the W.T.F is just a sport! Not realistic fighting! [ This Message was edited by: koreantiger81 on 2002-08-01 06:57 ]

Way back in my junior high school days, I was a rebel. -
For my up-coming demonstration, I"m going to break a board in the air, doing a Dive Roll/Shoulder Roll/Cat-Break-fall over a 4 feet person. I'm having trouble getting enough height! I want to go higher. I can jump straight up very high, but I believe it's my FORM which is preventing me from jumping high while doing this roll. For those of you who know how to do this, give me some tips!!! Should I jump and fall in an arc? does it look better with distance or height? Is there a web site you can direct me too.? http://www.ma-wired.com/trash.html NIce article. flashy kicks don't serve a practical purpose in self-defense. It's just to see how far your physical limitations can go...It's true that in Olympic style matches, there are not many flashy kicks in the match..They stick to the basics...There's nothing wrong with sticking to the basics...What separates the talented from the untalented is how they use their techniques and when they use their techniques.

How do you do it? any web-sites out there on the twisting kick?

Well, it's not neccesary to do the splits; in order, to be a good martial artist. however, the more flexible you are the more explosive your muscles are. I hope you can at least chamber at belt level! I used to be able to do the splits, but i've lost my flexibility!! Constant stretching is a must! Check these links, TIGER KOREa. I'm a tae kwon do stylist. I like to do I.t.f sparring. (non-olympic) In I.T.F sparring, you can punch to the head and also use kicks. well, i've moved to a new city. I can't find an I.T.F school. My 2nd choice is to look for a Karate school. I don't know much about Karate. All I know is you guys wear pants that don't fit u. (Why are your pants to your knees? Tradition???) Anyway, what kind of style of karate do you recommend me taking? Shotokan?goru???? waido kai???? also, do you do full contact or semi-contact sparring? and do you do continuous or point sparring? Punching from the waist..
koreantiger81 posted a topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH PUNCHING FROM THE WAIST IN PATTERNS! In both I.T.F and W.T.F patterns, punching is done from the waist. I know these patterns are tradition, and I know it looks better to punch from the waist...BUT I say have your punching hand up in a guarding position, just like you would when you spar. It would definitely, help train novices to keep their hands up in sparring. Remember, patterns are practiced in tae kwon do to develop co-rdination, breathing, power, speed, and to develop FORM. Punching from the waist, just develops bad habits. I don't think it would be a bad idea if you do a front low block in a walking stance, and execute a punch from a guarding position, rather than executing a punch from the waist. I admit it doesn't look as good, but it'll help novices to keep their hands up in sparring...What do you guys think!? [ This Message was edited by: koreantiger81 on 2002-07-22 07:30 ] -
ok..let me rephrase it. Yes, look into the eyes AND the rear shoulder or the clavile. ckdstudent, I think it would be an error to not look into the eyes at all. YOu'll be missing out on facial expressions telegraphed, when one yells and executes a kick or punch. [ This Message was edited by: koreantiger81 on 2002-07-22 07:01 ]

For my up-coming belt test, I am required to create a form to music. For those of you who have done musical forms or have created musical forms, perhaps you can answer some of my questions. 1. does it have to be fast? exciting? (I've only seen fast ones at tournaments.) 2. Will including too many tradional techniques make the form look boring and less exciting? 3. Do you have any other suggestions?

After doing the run in the Navy Seal Work-out, my knees got really sore. The following day, I hyper-extended my knee doing a high side-kick to the face. I've hyper-extended my knee before; however, this time my knee is not healing! It's been a month and I feel no improvement. I can't stand on the leg with the injured knee, while doing a kick, nor can I fully extend my leg doing a kick. It feels so stiff and my leg with the injured knee seems longer than my other leg. what do i do! I'm I disabled for life? ---_---

What is your purpose in learning two styles? I assume it's to learn new techniques for the sole purpose of fighting. Well, since you're a 2nd degree black-belt, you probably understand the technical and physiological aspects of each technique in Tae kwon do. Since you understand the body mechanics and physiology behind techniques, I don't think you will have any problem learning KyunG fu. People with no prior martial arts experience may get confused learning two martial arts when they are not proficient in one martial art. I believe you'll be just fine. I'm a free-style martial artist, with my main foundation in Tae kwon do. I train in two different arts at the same time. I don't get confused, 'cause I understand the movements/techniques. My motto is, "Use techniques that work for you." YOu don't have to use every technique you learn! Some techniques will work for others, while some won't.
