One quesion Do you guys have to wite alot in your MA training? Im being silly. Now seriously. I still think that straight forward sparrring is better. But thats my MT breeding for you. If it works for you and the others that practice it then your obviously doing something right.

Hey Monkey i hear stuff about what happened to traditional MA in China, whats the truth?
-
Yeah people your age do thai boxing in thailiand they start when they are kids. If you are they youngest doesnt matter. Someone is going to be the youngest in the club. You are at an advantage. I wish i had started earlier. Go to a class and join in that will asnwer alot of your questions. It wont kill you. But it might be a bit harder than what your used to.
-
Yeah gaurd should be high but to the front. Watch out for if the gaurd is below the chin as well. But remember when you watch that some there will be beginers as well. If they have produced or currently have champions thats a good sign. Only make sure its the same instructor, Donkey will know what i mean. Sometimes the class gets handed over to another instructor, usually from the same gym but the standard goes down.

Yeah that basically sums it up, thank god i didnt have to type much.

aahhhh i cant read that much. Im beaten into submission by endless text. No way can i concentrate that long. What were we talking about? I will read it again later.

reminded me of south park for some reason. Take down sucks. If he holds on to you you end up on the grounds on top of him. Youll fall with him. Then you neck is exposed to the choke. Real dangerous. I hate this prearranged stuff. When they role the attacker around he ends up in loads of positions where he can easily take you down. Works fine though as longas your attacker isnt trying to fight you.
-
I agree with donkey boy. There is far to much of this it takes years cr@p. Also it does suck that there are no head punches. I watched the sparring clips etc posted on here i was generally impressed but for the laughable punching in KK karate. A pity. Otherwise looks good,

a basic boxing question
Mart replied to zerolimitii's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Thats what takes time. You need to spar regularly. Most non full contact MAs dont prepare you for that. The answer is to get him to slow down a little and do it regularly. Then speed it up -
Zero, id give you a black belt. There are very few that realise as you have that, although they are made out to be dificult, Martial Arts are rather simple. The techniques are not hard. People do make them out to be though. If I thought technique was hard i would have given up ages ago. What is hard is learning timing and range and learning the ability to adapt to different fighters, changeing your fightin style etc. How to a be an agressive or counter striker, being elusive etc. Putting it all together into a real fight takes time. But not too long, you just get better as you go but like i said. One year and you will do well. I used to do Kung Fu, ive done two styles. They used to spar full contact. They went on endlessly about mastering technique. Big deal. Left went to MT, came back 6 weeks later and beat the whole damn class. This years of dedication to technique is ninsence. You only start learning to fight once you have the technique. Go do it and see what you like.
-
I completely disagree. To use a technique should take a few weeks, no more. Anything that takes longer is useless. Learnt this one the hard way. WHo wants to study for years before they can use it? thats just dumb. Makes me laugh when so called battlefield systems take years to learn, imagine trying to trainan army. If you do MT you will be able to use it fully effectively in one year. As long as you train hard and consistently. The techniques arent that hard. But something else is. When you go you will know wat i mean,
-
oh yes and how do you know this Fenris?
-
I you have no MT experience this is a hard one. However, When they spar it should be aggressive but controlled, no flailing arms and legs. Also gaurd should be fairly tight and chin tucked down NOT sticking out like some gyms do. Though as the chin is down it does come out a little. people should be freindly not arrogant. But dont expect anyone to come up to you and speak to you. Heres an important one. When they are kicking the pads look to see that their bodys are stayijng upright. The upper body should not be leaning back. This is a basic technique but some gyms cant get it right. Other than that there is one easy test. How many champiions have come from the gym. They should at least have produced some title holders. This way you know they can beat other gyms, the instruction is of a high standard.
-
Ok ive been doing MT for 6 years or so now. You probably will find it hard going at first but it shouldnt be too painful. Why not go and watch a class. If you go, introduce yourself to the instructor. MT classes have no formality that is obvious. You can just turn up and train like at a gym. Introducing your self is polite though. Back to the main point. TKD isnt too bad. But it sounds to me as if it is not for you. Dont be scared of MT. Please dont be scared of going to a class. Most likely you wont get much attention paid to you until you become regular. Most people leave within two months because its so damned hard. Stick at it. The rewards will come. And yes, it works well on the street:)

Thats really a new concept to me. So there are organizations and are they supposed to teach in the same manner, like is there a curriculum? If so why? im not critisizing but ive never heard of this sort of thing.
-
So there is no block then for round kicks?
-
well any strike with anything has some effect. I personally would not bother with this one though
-
I disagree that its the hardest part of your foot, i would say its pretty soft. It wouldnt have any effect on th ribs. But under the chin yes it would work nicely. If you really think the side of the foot will hurt the ribs then try it.
-
Nothing wrong with borrowing a white belt, something we should all do once in a while...if you see what i mean.
