Lack of Ground Works
Thaegen replied to dingyuan's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
In real armed fights (swords, spears...) landing on the ground means a certain death. You don't have the time to do some rolling on the ground. Japanese MA have groundwork, but will be mostly used on 1v1 unarmed fights and than still.. Groundwork know is just more in the picture because of a lot of sport fights... In RL fights mostly untrained people go stumbling on the ground. Groundwork is good against 1v1, but nog agains 1v2 or 100samoerei vs 100 samoerei.... This is just my personal opinion -
30- wide stance, knuckles facing face. I am good at it, above the door to get in my bedroom hangs a pull up bar:). But there are a lot of different ways to do a pull up,

Sevenstar I only do WT for 1 year now. I have not the same knowledge as you in the MA. But:) A paksau to the limb, I don't know.. I haven't learned that yet.... Pak sau on an arm and by doing so trapping your opponent.. yes.. but pak sau on a limb? Gan sau to block kicks? Mostly my arm falls in gan sau when someone tries to punch my stomach/kidneys (thus an attack to the lower body). Maybe a gansau can be used to stop a middle kick. but then in a combination with one arm in gansau and the other one in tansau. I think a gansau stops at your centerline. What looks like a gansau is a gwat sau (sweeping arm) which is used to stop kicks (but isn't ablock, because from gwat sau you go to a scooping arm (ko tansau) and throw your opponent back). But again, I am only training a year in Wing tsun and a year means nothing. I could be totally wrong.. but what matters is taht I think about it:). True, but I am assuming both have equal speed and equal skill. Ali there are 3 kicks in Wing Tsun Both are learned in the second form chum kiu. They are side thrusting kick (wang chang guek), frontal thrusting kick (ching sun chang guek) and the slant thrusting kick (che chang guek). I have no idea what the chinese axe kick is? And I don't see the problem with wearing shoes? I am always wearing shoes, except I am home, sleeping or swimming..., I am not talking about fighting bare foot.. which isn't realistic. But maybe a more experience WC could jump in, because like I said above I am only training for a year.

Sevenstar if you don't feel a kick to your "balls" because you are so pumped up/adrealine boost. That's very handy. I go down, even if the hit wasn't very hard. Sometimes I even go down when wearing my groinprotection. BUT a kick to the groin/balls will in most cases be sufficent to counter a low kick or another kind of kick. It will not be always perfect, but in my opinion it is wrong to think about blocking... For me a block is an attack that failed or was intercepted. Blocking just to block is not good. And you don't go straight ahead. You move from his centerline, but you are still aiming your centerline on his centerline.. you go in a small angle... when you kick or punch. you close the distance so fast as you can and than you keep the distance to a minimum. And Ali, the tree kicks from wing chun/tsun are good enough to counter lowkicks, the second kick(frontal thrusting kick) from chum kiu is very effective. You intend is to destroy. (knee, balls). If we kick at the same time a frontal thrusting kick will always be faster than a non-frontal kick.... pure mathematical.

Is Jackie Chan 5 thugs at a time possibble?
Thaegen replied to Taku-Shimazu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That's just stupid, if you are telling the truth... If you really carry those weapons... that's freaky and will get you in jail. Even if you use it in a selfdefence situation. -
Blocking low kicks? Why, would you do taht? Just kick in his balls.. you will be faster.. you go in a direct line.. while the one who does a low kick will not.. or if he is not so good at lowkicks.. and you see it coming .. just kick to his other leg.. He will collapse to the ground. Blocking low kicks is stupid.. and painfull.. Just front thrust kick and close the distance..

Tung's Tianji Fist
Thaegen replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Are that two masters? strange, it look like girls fighting -
nope, they don't have a better chance. Why should they? Because they train so called hard? Are they in a better condition? Pff no they aren't it depends on how hard the person trains who does a MA, not the otherway around.

*sigh* I don't get it.. I am christian so I may not fight thingie . Christian history is bathed in blood. There is a word for it "hypocrite". No other religion has killed so many people. So to be a christian or not, has nothing do with MA. You only need compassion and you don't have to believe in a so called god.

What does BB really mean to you?
Thaegen replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Mentally there is no difference between white or black. Belts doesn't matter, it only means to keep your paints on. Why should you start mentally preparing for a black belt? It doesn't matter -
When someone tries to choke you it is a natural reflex for everyone. Trained or untrained to get free. That you have that reflex has nothing to do with your martial training. What your training does is that you have a structured reflex, so that you do something what actual sets you free of the choke and not some spastic movement.

I do it, because when I am attacked I want to defend myself at the best of my abilities. I train not only for me, but also for the people I care about.
-
defend against what? A plant?
-
Nope, I wonder, I read a lot of mystical events.. like yours. Never happened something like that to me. But I have the feeling most of you think MA is something mystic. it is not. It's just your body moving. There are no great mystic powers

For me personal WT is good. I think it is more evolved. + There is one difference I know of. Some wing chun schools "do" search for an active Bon-sau. while in Wing Tsun it is a more passive bon-sau. We don't look for it. Like on NickWC his site, where his sifu shows kicking techniques. + Grandmaster Leung Ting, was the last student of Great grandmaster Yip man. Some people say he learned a softer WT, because Great Grandmaster Yip man was terminal sick. But again I only practice WT for a year. I train hard. I believe that one of the most important things in WT are the two first forms. Sia nim tau and Chum Kiu. These two forms need to be trained each day. + Sparring is very important also Lat-sau and chi-sau. + I don't know if there is groundwork in WT/WC, doesn't matter I am going to start taking BJJ also from this week on.
-
Simplified? Hell no I only know Wing Tsun.. I "think" it is more aggresive than WC. Grandmaster Leung Ting perfectionised the style. If you follow Wing Tsun, you kow for certain you aren't dealing with some mc-dojo... while everyone can say "Hi, there I am a WIng chun Sifu, you can't do that with Wing Tsun... For your technieker grades all Europeans have to go to Germany for their gradings. A lot of special police units have adopted Wing Tsun( SEK in Germany...). It is a realistic combat system.. I am also a police officer, (no special unit) and I believe WIng Tsun made my work safer.

Lineage ????
Thaegen replied to nanfeishen's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Lineage doesn't matter for me. -
Why would you create your own style... Are you a grandmaster in a MA? I think not.... If you fully understand a MA, maybe you can create your own style... but don't you think it will just be a mix of learned techniques from other styles... .

Side and Swing kicks
Thaegen replied to willow's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I don't see the problem. Whe he tries to kick you with a roundhouse kick. You advance in, kick with your front leg in his balls. You will always be faster, beacue you take the most short/direct way. Than you follow your first leg, so you land it between his feet.. so that you closed the distance.. trap him and than; punches, elbows, headbutts.... -
