  1. I do have a great pic of it, but Im not sure how to post it here....tell me how, or gimme an email addy to send it too.
  2. Precisely.......An example I gave a while back as to why thats helpful is this.....doing security one night, we had to escort a drunk guy out....he left no problem, but when we hit the sidewalk, he started screaming about how he was a 3rd degree in TKD, and he was gonna kick everybody's you-know-what....when I fought him, I had a pretty good idea that he was gonna be coming at me with kicks, and thats just what he did, so I was more than ready for him.......In your dojo, you only fight against people who train to fight the same way you do....when you run into a guy who trains a different way....dont let it be a surprise to you....learn about everything thats out there, so you can deal with it when you have too.
  3. Personal trainer, class instructor, police tactics hand to hand combat instructor, security and bodyguard......I do lotsa stuff....lol
  4. Well.....there are 7 days in a week ya know.......
  5. My motto is.....learn as much as you can about as much as you can.
  6. Yes. Chi Gung is a very big part of Okinawan Goju Ryu, since it decends from Chinese systems. We also have various techniques to cultivate the iron shirt, forearms, hands and fingers as well.
  7. Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. Working in law enforcement, as well as security and bodyguard work, I have had way too much "real life" experience. Of course, I did fight for 15 years at all the tournaments and such, but thats a big difference. I tried to incorporate all of the most "brutal" techniques centered around very close quarter fighting, since that is what I generally have to deal with in what I do. Theres a whole lot of knife and baton work, as well as weapon disarming. There are no "locks", just breaks and throws...The strikes are mostly all open hand stuff, as well as fingertip strikes. No fancy kicks, just below the waist stuff. Its not about getting someone to "comply" with you, its about thoroughly annhilating the attacker so he is no longer an issue as fast and hard as possible. It sounds brutal, and it is. As far as legal ramifications, you may be dealing with an unnecessary use of force charge unless your talking about being in the military fighting hand to hand in some jungle or desert somewhere. Id rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6, cause these days you may incapacitate someone with a knife, and as you turn to leave he gets enough wits about him to pull the gun he had hidden and shoot you in the back......sorry.....not for me.....if we engage....my switch gets flipped and Im going 0-60 before you can blink.
  8. I have a twin dragon tatoo on my back.
  9. My greatest achievement would have to be being inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine's Black Belt Hall of Fame in January of 2004. My parents and friends have always come to my tests, and when I opened my dojo it was a real thrill to achieve that goal as well. Ive also received lots of awards for teaching 100's of kids and keeping them out of trouble. Having been training since I was 7, I have many fond memories related to the arts over 30 years now.
  10. Afer 30 years of training, they wanted to see what I would be able to put together. I took all of the inclose moves of Goju, aikijujitsu, aikido, and jujitsu that I would use in real life scenarios which demand an "all out" response, and since edged weapons are my specialty, I included a lot of knife techniques, as well as batton techniques, since those are weapons that I carry ( no need for me to include anything fancy with my gun, since thats self explanatory)
  11. Explaining what Chi is is very difficult. Its like trying to explain to a blind man what a color looks like. You dont "see" the air, but you feel it when it blows......you dont "see" heat, but you feel it......
  12. Never have.....but if you have the opportunity....go for it.....Master LaBell is one of the leading grappling experts in the world.
  13. Try century martial arts......they have tons of stuff to choose from.
  14. Shorin Ryuu........If you wouldnt mind sending that article to me as well, Id love to read it. Thanks in advance.
  15. Shorinryu Sensei.........I agree with your post 100%.
  16. Sorry, Pohoa is on a different island (The Big Island). I live on Oahu. Who is your Master and which style? My masters name is Alex Kirk. He is the chief of Police of the SPCC (society for the prevention of cruelty to children)....he is my Goju Ryu and JuJitsu teacher......he has a few houses out there, and travels all over the place......he's hysterical, but a really great martial artist. Hes been training for about 38 years. Hes also a direct student and was a very close friend of the late Peter Urban, I was lucky that he took me to train with him.
  17. Sounds like you had more than just fun......glad to hear it.....keep going, and watching, and asking questions......youll meet lots of new people......see lots of new things.....enjoy !!!
  18. ......and very humble, too......
  19. Id like to know more about this Craig character......sounds like he is definetely leaning towards the abusive, masochistic side of things, and that just wont do.......Frankly, Im surprised that your Sensei hasnt addressed the situation, and Id be very dissapointed to learn that he hasnt even noticed it. You need to have a private discussion with your sensei on this one Kieran-lilith, as this is really a serious issue. It doesnt sound like you are simply receiving "hard-core" training, but again.....it sounds (by YOUR story) that he is abusive...... Lets all remember here.....in all fairness to this "Craig".....we havent heard his side of the story yet......but his behavior does sound abusive from what youve said......
  20. I just remembered.....I made our local police blotter in the newspaper when I was 3 years old......I didnt wanna brush my hair....and I ran into the bathroom and locked the door.....the lock was to hard for me to unlock and the fire dept had to come and break the door down........does that count for anything ?????
  21. Hey Pineapple......I meant to ask you.......My master lives in Pohoa......anywhere near you ?
  22. This is the truth! I also have another reason to train hard and consistently as soon as possible, gonna go and hang with Master Jules for a while over my spring break! Cant go there weak as a bunny and in this present condition I'm in! I got lots in store for ya Sandhoppa
  23. This is always a sticky thread, but those of us whove experienced it know.....Chi exists absolutely.
  24. Okinawan Goju Ryu......very hard core, in your face, up close and personal style. It blends hard and soft techniques, and has a tremendous amount of grappling applications as well.
  25. I had to go 15 3-minute rounds, after a 4 hour workout...... Same for my NiDan San Dan was 12 3-minute rounds against 1 opponent, 1 3-minute round against 2 opponents, 1 3-minute round against 3 opponents, and 1 3 minute full contact against my master (7th Dan) Yondan was 7 days long.....5 hrs a day. First day was a 40 minute NHB round against my master, 3rd day was a 30 minute grappling round against my master, and 7th day was also a 40 minute NHB round against my master. GoDan test was a little different. After I passed my Yondan test, my requirement for Godan was to create a system with all I had learned over the last 30 years, and demonstrate it fully to a panel of masters, which I was successful in doing...Thank god, cause it took me 4 years. My master still snuck in a really long round though......he just loves to beat the snot outta me......lol
