  1. I would like to put a different slant on this topic. I feel that Karate has lost some credibility due to the fact that there are Dojo's that are flooded with kiddy Karateka's. I believe nothing brings the reputation of a MA down more than having 8-year-old kids running around with black belts. Offcourse that is not limited to Karate, but also other arts like TKD. At least I can take comfort in knowing that there are no students under 16 in my dojo who hold a black belt, and by god they have had to train for a long hard time to earn it.
  2. Welcome to KF dude. The more epxerienced MA's on board the better.
  3. Sorry to hear you got suspended for three days because of something you did not start. You must be proud of the amount of restraint you used in defending yourself. I think a lot of people would have really messed this guy up if put in this situation. The sign of a true martial arts practitioner I think.
  4. Definitely see your Sensai about what protective equipment is required for your dojo/tournaments. I purchased a $15 pair of gloves for dojo sparring at an MA store only to be told by Sensai that these were the wrong type. I then had to purchase gloves from the club that were approved.
  5. Welcome to KF dude
  6. Welcome to the forums. Hope I am still training at 41.
  7. Hi there, Welcome to K F
  8. Welcome to the forums
  9. I am ceratinaly trying to overcome the fear of constantly sparring one of my sempai's at class. However it is easier said than done.
  10. I would see a sports physio over a Chiro anyday.
  11. I really do not think subjecting your injured knee to a tournament this weekend would be advisable. Get to your doctor ASAP.
  12. As someone who works in the health industry I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor.
  13. Welcome to the KF Sonduck
  14. Welcome to KF mate
  15. G'Day mate, welcome to the KF
  16. Have you thought about Japanese Ju Jitsu rather than BJJ. I have read that BJJ has more striking than JJJ which is something you are already doing.
  17. Hmmm, Standardisation in Kyu grades could be a wonderful thing I think.
  18. Forgive me if I am wrong, but was'nt Japan the first country to put a sporting flavour into Karate. I was under the impression that they introduced tournament fightig.
  19. First Kata's in Taikudo are Heian Nedan and then Heian Shodan.
  20. In Taikudo they are named Heian kata's
  21. Do you beleive in Murphy's Law "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" You just had a Murphy week.
  22. Congrats on your upcoming marriage . I agree that you have two options which is either ask not to spar at all or spar with no face contact. I spose it depends on how much you trust your sparring partners in the dojo.
  23. With so many Kata has he had time to learn anything else? In Taikudo I believe there are a total of 27 kata. I absolutely agree that quality over quantitiy is better.
  24. I do not think it matters if you advance in Kyu ranks failry quikly. As long as you feel that you have to earned the grade by training hard and working your * off at the grading.
  25. Congratulations . So what did you have to do in order to pass the grading?
