  1. I never where my Gi when training at home or down at the local park.
  2. I do not believe all students have the ability or desire to reach Shodan. I am hoping to make black belt one day, but it's a hard target.
  3. Wow, that's certainly an impressive list of injuries. I wonder how this compares to other arts such as Kung-Fu (Any style), TKD, Aikido and Grappling arts like JJJ/BJJ and Judo.
  4. That's quite a lot of injuries EvilTed, what has kept you motivated to train. Did any of these injuries force you to take time off work/study?
  5. Actually it is meant to be light contact Kumite, but sometimes it can get rougher.
  6. Hi All, I was wondering which injuries are sustained more often in Karate training? For example I know 2 students at my dojo who have sustained broken ribs from tournament sparring and/or grading tests.
  7. Point taken. I certainly do not have full control over my kicks and punches at this time
  8. At the dojo where I train there is a young female student who is a two stripe Green Belt that is just below Brown belt. She has returned after a long absence and cannot remember most of her Kata's. I am only a Yellow belt but she said she was scared to perform Kumite with me as I "Hurt too much" My opinion is that this advanced student should not maintain her rank if she cannot execute basic techniques and Kata's at the level expected of her by her peers.
  9. Our style has White, Yellow, Purple, Green, Brown and Black. All belts Yellow and above have 2 stripes in between except for Brown that has 2 and 3 stripe.
  10. Originally started at 16. Now I have taken Karate up again at age 29.
  11. Hi all, I am new to the forum and have recently taken up Taikudo Karate five months ago. I am going for my 8th Kyu Yellow belt grading very shortly and have been practising Heian Nidan and Shodan kata's religiously. I am hoping to make Karate training a life long pursuit, as I believe it can make you a better person if you train for the right reasons. Anyway I am looking forward to having the opportunity to engage in some discussions and share experiences with other members. Aragato, Trekmann
  12. Definitely not to old at 20. I just started Karate at 29 and I love it!!
