JOW GA

I like Jow Ga. -
I like board breaking techniques to train for "finishing strikes". After you take someone down for example, board breaking hammerfist to the side of the neck...that is going to hurt in the morning!!

Yes, the GOO is a living legend. Have you seen "When Taekwondo Strikes". The man is patriotic as well. He also invented Martial Ballet. -
'shazaam (I remember that tv show BTW!), " LOL! SHAZAAM!!!! (lightning bolts) I've heard of masters practicing karate in the snow and near volcanoes. Why not do it at 3:00am in the backyard? I did kata drunk one time and threw up all over my gi..but I'm a better karateka for it I think!

Thanks for the good advice all. I've experienced some more awful swelling on one side of my scrotum. I am going to the doctor. I just hope he doesn't have to Amputate.

grappling self defense
shazaam replied to Icetuete's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Matt and TJS are spreading correct. They are absolutely right. There is a rumor going around that if you are getting beaten up by a grappler that you can "tap" and they will pause by habit...at that point do something to escape. It might work, it might not. Better to just go ahead and train in submission grappling along with your regular system. -
" Tito uses them" Looks like its time for TITO to try something else!! He got whacked by Randy Couture the other night. Got his butt spanked, literally. Tito is one of my favorite fighters!!

"dad do taekwondo he is able to do a sumersult and knock out an oponent by his kick " OH, i thought we were talking full side split. Wow, your Dad needs to go participate in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, he would rule!!

"The patch or crest worn by Isshinryu karateka often raises admiration and curiosity. The patch is based on a day dream Tatsuo Shimabuku had in the fifties while he was creating his karate style. This dream was the missing piece in the puzzle called Isshinryu. The patch is often incorrectly called Mizu Gami, which means 'water goddess'. Originally the Isshinryu emblem was called 'Isshinryu No Megami', which means 'Goddess of Isshinryu'. The goddess is the Goddess of Isshinryu karate and not the goddess of water." That patch is beautiful. It reminds me of some scary verses in the Book of Revelation. (That is a book from the Christian Bible)

TJS is spreading correct.

I don't believe Mas Oyama used a cup. Should not I try to emulate the masters?

I think its great when instructors add to their systems from other systems. Isn't this exactly what Bruce Lee was trying to tell us. And I'm becoming more interested in HOPKIDO (HAPKIDO) everyday. -

I agree Miguk. Can someone define "dis-ing" for me? -
BTW, warrior, what does doing a side split have to do with realistic self defense anyway?

I would just suggest that my JJJ instructor train the scenario a tad differently than just working the lapel grab. One step sparring in JJJ is a joke. Rest assured that the BJJ man or WOMAN is training the lapel grab by practicing full contact sparring and not trying to brainwash themselves into thinking that a co-operative uke represents reality. Tibby, I am going to report you to Patrick. You are being difficulit and insulting my person. I will not stand for this at https://www.karateforums.com.
