That would make you really unpopular at my school. I wear a medium/heavy gi when I have to, but I prefer no gi.

Primary carry? Does that mean there's a secondary carry? So you're walking around with TWO guns at any given time? JerryLove: Beyond Thunderdome -
Did you guys notice how it was all artsy blocking and dodging and stuff in the dancing skeleton demos, then when they actually sparred it was two people just trying to side kick each other at the same time? With the occasional "tag" punch? Also, I think the other guy got pissed at the main character because he got kicked in the nuts like 3 times during their simultaneous side kick exchanges. Did anyone see that kinda happening? About the force measurement thing... I don't know what that was about. Their sensor thing tore like a piece of paper when the guy kicked it. How accurate could it be? It didn't look like it was designed for that purpose.

That isn't even a sport. Its a dance. The sparring was rediculous. I would put my money on my little sister in a fight. At least she knows how to do a proper armbar.

I bet you get some x treme power with your techno pants
-
They should replace "x treme" with "modern dance."

"Balance....blah blah blah..... Balance, 'cause if you don't have it, you're hurting." Then they show a clip of someone tripping during TKD style point sparring... with the funny foam hats.

*sigh* So far there's no realism to this at all. It's all kata dancy ballerina *.

If I knew nothing about martial arts, I would assume that martial arts is all about dancing by watchign this. Here's teh guy talking about point fighting: "I always get punched in the face! I hate getting punched in the face! I hate it I hate it!(whining)" (then a clip of people point sparring)

Ok, its the first commercial break right now. My reactions to the first part: They're a bunch of cheerleader ballerinas, and that was the wussiest most improperly done armbar I've ever seen. I love the monk guy with the twirly baton attached-to-your-hand knife things. paraphrase: "when you get blood on your weapons it makes them penetrate the skin easier.... plus it gets you so pumped up.... AAAAAAA!" Holy ****. You've never stabbed anyone. Go twirl your pom poms somewhere else. Ok, back on now....

Pepper spray is some ninja magic that I can agree with. That stuff is nasty. -

Don't hesitate to shop around for a better school.

Yeah, I misread your post, sorry. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the punching thing. What about side kicks though?

Potato potahto.

I was asking for clarificatino from Drunken monkey.

Damn straight.

So, punching air helps your power more than punching a bag? Is that what you're saying? It sure didnt help the side kicks of the poeple I saw.

Ippon Seoinage man. Grab... fwap. -
Punching the air forces you to do "all the work" but its not realistic work. When you punch the air you have to conciously start slowing your fist down before you reach full extension. Otherwise you compromise balance (see Treebranch's post). When you punch a bag you accelerate your fist the whole time. Your muscles are never working in the opposite direction, so you train yourself to deliver more power. An internal force is a physics thing. If you throw a punch into the air the force acting equal and opposite to your accelerating fist on you is equally cancelled by the force when your fist comes to a stop. In my old TKD dojang people would learn to do side kicks "internally" against air then the first time they went to hit a bag (and generally for quite a while as they relearned the motion) they would lose their balance because they weren't used to shifting their weight into a kick. So LEARNING techniques with no bag is fine, but you're in for a surprise the first time you use them if you've never practiced them with a bag.

If the chimp gets its instincts in a fight I get a tennis racket. Only fair. About the whole "you can earn a black belt in one year" thing... These people need to realize that a black belt symbolizes mastery of a subject, not just knowing all the moves. In BJJ there might be a blue belt and a purple belt (white blue purple brown black) who know all the same moves, but the purple belt will still win the majority of the time because they've had more time practicing the execution of the moves.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not about the pepper spray. You could be mocking me, or Lima Lama could be the precise and deadly art of pepper spray combat for all I know. -

Then they can help you fight! I know my girlfriend would at least provide pepper spray surpressing fire. about the wallets/bodies thing: If you give him your wallet, you've saved him a step! He should give you a couple bucks back for the convenience!
