I'm too lazy to try and learn a 720.

Nope, not arguing. Its just coincidence that Sai and I were both the finalists in the first one, and are both staff now. It's just my opinion that when you volunteer to play the game, you shouldn't complain about the challenges (subject or length) until the game is completely over with. Then you can make suggestions as to how the game can be made better next time.

You also need to be careful when using elbows and knees for your own sake. If you don't use proper technique, you can do more damage to yourself than your opponent. Since this thread is not titled specifically to open handed strikes, I'll throw in another twist. I like open handed techniques for the ability to strike and grab vital points. I've been in an art that we train our grip and finger strength to allow for these attacks, and I like the ability to be in close and simple grab someone, and cause their knees to buckle.

Since this thread is more a generic question, I'm going to move it over to the General forum, so hopefully more members can participate. Kuk Sool Won is my art. I like it because it has a little bit of everything. Mostly resembles Hapkido, and has some ground fighting, clinch fighting, etc. It's also a hard/soft style, and therefore I have a good chance of being able to continue it into old age. BTW, MTF I'm 36. Are you trying to say 34 is already old.

Very interesting. I don't attempt it much, but our 540 is a spin heel kick. Start with right leg in front, jump spin heel kick with the front leg, land with right leg behind. But then again, I'm not TKD.

justice, injustice, self defense, i need an answer to this
SBN Doug replied to BKJ1216's topic in General Chat
I think the consensus is that direct involvement is not a good idea. However, indirect involvement is another story. The reason is imaterial. 30/1 is unacceptable, and the school must be made aware of it. If he's being brought to tears, then it needs to be stopped. Nobody at that age deserves that kind of treatment. -
Forms/Kata/Poomse/Sets...How much is too much?
SBN Doug replied to Stold's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In my opinion, 4 out of 5 would be too much. 2 half classes a week is enough for the number of forms we learn. -

ZeRo, your answer is right here. -
A comment in another thread made me think of this one. We don't put stripes on our black belts. We keep the same belt through 1st and 2nd dan. At third, we get a new belt, but it looks the same except for being a little wider. I believe you get your final at 5th (master) dan, and I think keep it from then on.

Self Defense -- Are One Steps Enough?
SBN Doug replied to tkdwolf's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Here's another old thread I enjoyed. I like how it shows more the positive aspects of TKD and the incorporation of self defense. Not being TKD, it might not be fair for me to say that we spend a large amount of time on locking, trapping, falling etc. However, I would like to hear more about your schools. -
Wuzup? Welcome.

They can only use that excuse about 3 months out of the year, right?? They can't just maintain their knowledge through FB season, and get back to learning in between seasons??

Because there are always two sides to every story, and we do not want to seem like we're taking sides, I'm posting the following link to the HRD website. It gives their point of view of the previous links I posted. It just took me a while to remember where to find it. http://www.hwarangdo.com/judicial/judicial1%20revised%206-5-01.htm
