  1. Pankraton has a history going back to the ancient Greeks.
  2. I am going to move this to health and fitness and see if more people will see it.
  3. It is not that hard. It only hurts if you don't go through. I have done it with both hands. It was a nidan requirement to do an amidextrous hand break. And do it twice to prove the first break wasn't a lucky fluke. Speed, proper aim and technique are really crucial to that break much more so than just raw power.
  4. Primarily shotokan here.
  5. The problem has been edited. The same question should not crop up again.
  6. It is not exactly the bowing in odd places that gets attention it is the saying of ossu in the process I have found that is the attention getter. Example it is totally appropriate at church to bow before the Blessed Sacrament. It is not, however, appropriate to say ossu while doing so.
  7. Welcome to the forum.
  8. In a way it is kind of awesome to think that it is one of the first skills learned. But there are many great karate masters who years later still work on throwing the "perfect" punch.

  17. A lot too depends on what the purpose of going into the stance is. If you are doing moving drills you would want to step forward. If you are doing something stationary like practicing kicks or blocks you would maybe step backwards to get into kamae.
  18. It is still fairly awesome to watch and a skillfull fighter trained in its precepts would be hard to handle for martial artists of most other genres.
  19. I have had contact with a 4th dan Isshinryu who is a paraplegic spina bifida. He sent Black Belt an article that rather than they condsider as an article they put it in one of the news type columns as just a short blurb.
  20. How about Itosu? Several of his students went on to found or influence Japanese/Okinawan karate.
  21. It was interesting. But I am definately not Grace from Will and Grace.
  22. Welcome to the forum.
  23. It is a chines boxing form. A guy named Cung Lee is one of the top fighters. From the little bit I have seen it is really interesting to watch. /viewtopic.php?t=5700&sid=a4933417ac08be1375f79a6f2ab5c53e Here is a link to another thread where SanShou was recently brought up here.
