  1. I broke for the first time at 8th kyu. We had a breaking seminar either once a year or every other year. The only time it was required was to pass your black belt test. If you did not break your boards you did not pass. There are some shotokan schools that break.
  2. Yes they do. They have some good ones. Do you play Monkeygirl.

How about towards the beginning of the kata when you step toward your right into a ridge hand. Before you start moving forward. That is where we were taught the kiai is.
  5. I like tekki nidan and rohai.
  6. This thread does not meet the criteria for comparitive arts.
  7. Think of hangetsu stance as a zenkutsu dachi done in such a way as to protect the groin area. Rather than thinking turn the toes in, or point the knees in think of it as closing the groin area. And when the floor is very slippery as often happens on a hot day when everyone is sweating buckets see how much less you slide when moving in zenkutsu dachi as compared to hangetsu dachi.

  13. Ten no is essentially the same as the shotokan Taikyuko kata ichii.
  14. The shito ryu chi no kata is like the goju gekisai dai ichii.
  15. It looks like you are missing shoulder work too. Reverse flyes might be one of the things you are looking for.

  19. I find one of the most fascinating things about katas is the way that one move can be used in so many different ways. Tekki nidan is a very interesting kata when you take it apart. I believe the group that does it as a front kick is a KUGB offshoot.
  20. Octagonal nunchuks with cords are considered more traditional.
  21. I have read some Clancy. I have liked the ones I have read.

  24. I have seen one group that in tekki nidan during the part that can be intrepreted as a head grab they do a front kick there. It is done as a front kick straight into a stomp kick. I have only seen that in one group.
  25. I have read most of the Terry Brooks books. I am finding that now that I am getting ebooks it is much easier to get all the books in a series.
