  1. TigerClaw makes a good student uniform. They fit a little bigger than Centurys uniforms, so a size 2 may fit you just fine.
  2. Well, with your reply I defintely believe it is really you! Thanks for the information.
  3. Don't feel like you are betraying your instructor. Be up front with him/her about your intentions, and open your dojo a respectable distance away from your instructors school. You will be passing on the knowledge he/she has taught you, but you don't want to open across the street and become competitors. I suggest finding a YMCA or Boys/Girls club to teach at first to build a student base before jumping in and renting a building. There is lots of expense to running your own retail school. Good luck to you!
  4. If you are the real Stephen Oliver it is a pleasure to have you on our forums. Mr. Oliver, your marketing information seems very high priced. It seems only people with huge schools can afford it. If you had to suggest one of your products for a small school...which would it be??
  5. I know of a good school in Apopka, FL. PM me if you want more information.
  6. Dinner and breakfast VERY light. Eat HEAVILY after the tournement though!! May even have a drink or two!!
  7. Go to https://www.youtube.com and type in systema you will get all kind of videos on it. I sure don't like to put down others arts, but it just looks so fake.
  8. I have seen a few videos on Systema. It seems to be a style from Russia. Just wondering what you guys think of it.
  9. I earned my first black belt from ATA. I know practice the Chang Han patterns. There is not much I like about the ATA's in my area, but I did like their forms.
  10. Go! Get experience. You don't want your first tournament to be against advanced ranks that have probably been doing tournaments for years. Experience helps. Good luck!
  11. I have worked out with Mr. Joe Lewis, and he is really good. I am not sure how his school runs, but I am sure it is worth trying out.
  12. Have any of you conducted a summer camp? If so, can you answer a few questions: 1. What was the duration of the camp (i.e. a week, 2 weeks, etc) 2. How many hours per day 3. State some of the things you did at the camp 4. What did you charge 5. How successful was the camp? Thanks in advance for any advice you may offer.
  13. Don't take it personally. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and everyone thinks their style is the best. Just train hard, and enjoy your art. Don't worry about what others say or think.
  14. You said it all in your last post. It is the individual student that makes the difference. You keep training hard!
  15. Keep the goal in site. Remember your tenents...Persverance and Indomitable Spirit come to mind reading your article. I have faith in you! Good luck!
  16. IronMan uniforms are very nice. Nothing beats a Shureido in my opinion.
  17. I use both TigerClaw and Century. I have had good luck with both, and now both offer ordering online. TigerClaw usually delivers a day or two faster though. Good Luck!
  18. That was going to be my suggestion. Check to see if someone is teaching at the college. You could always drive to Valdosta, and train with me!! Good luck!
  19. Whew, you are stressing me out just reading your post! Just kidding. Part of testing is the mental side. You are letting the boards get in your head, and they are defeating you before you even get to testing day. Visualize yourself breaking the boards. Think about it when you lay down at night...see yourself breaking the boards. You are building up a fear...like Mr. Myogi said "Ok to lose to opponent, not ok to lose to fear!" Good luck!! You can do it!
  20. Jump rope! Improves footwork, coordination and is a great work out. I use a ring timer and do 'rounds'. Good luck!
  21. You have studied some martial arts already so that definitely helps. My advice would be to losen up the hips, quads, ham strings and hip flexors. Not that all you will be doing is kicking, but probably a lot more than you are used to. Good luck in your training!
  22. From those measurements I would say you are a size 5.
  23. I have never heard the term 'Deputy' Black Belt. Is this like a Recommended Black Belt?
  24. I earned my first Black Belt at an ATA. I learned good technique, but it was all very sport oriented. I didn't like the 'brain-washing' that went on in our school that ATA was the best and only way to train in martial arts. For 2.5 years at that school I never had a punch come at my head. As soon as I left and started working out at other schools I got my head torn off by punches. So, I guess my biggest problem with the school was them teaching sport TKD as if it was real self defense.
  25. Thanks Sandan! How long does the camp last? How much do you charge? Any additional information would be appreciated as well! Thanks again!
