if anybody is intrested in other martial arts equipment that ucan use to improve ur techniques speed , power etc .. here are some usually used in karate do .. Chishi The chishi is a concrete or stone weight at the end of a wooden handle. It is mainly used to strengthen the grip, as well as the joints of the elbows, wrists and shoulders. The exercises develop the muscles used in blocking, striking and grappling techniques. Nigiri Game These are gripping jars, usually made of clay with a rim around the top to grip with the fingers. Sand can be added to increase the weight of the jars. They can be substituted with a common glass or mason jar for the same effect. Gripping these jars increases the strength of the fingers for gripping and tearing applications. Makiwara A makiwara is a striking post, with a straw, cloth or rubber pad for contact padding. It is constructed of either a combination of 2X4's or a 4X4 tapered off at the top. It is used to condition the striking surfaces of the body and perfect striking techniques and kime. Ishisashi This is a stone padlock resembling the shape of an old-fashioned clothes iron. It's is used for strengthening the arms and wrists. Tan This resembles a barbell, usually made of wood with weights on the ends. It is usually rolled over the forearms and back, or twisted over the hips. It strengthens and conditions the affected areas. Tou This is a bundle of bamboo sticks taped together at the ends, and is used for nukite practice and conditioning. Jari Bako This is just a box or bowl filled with sand, beans, gravel or similar material. Fingers are thrust into it to toughen the hands. Tetsu Geta These are iron clogs, used to strengthen kicking techniques. Kongoken This is a very heavy rectangular hoop, used alone or with a partner. It is used to strengthen the body and condition for contact. Sashi Ishi A short wooden handle with a stone weight in the center. Makiage Kigu This is a wrist roller, a wooden handle with a weight hung in the center on a rope. You twist the handle and wrap the rope onto it, raising and lowering the weight, and strengthening the wrists and grip. Tetsuarei These are basic dumbells, and their use is much like modern weightlifting exercises, with the same results.

How to achieve maximum damage?
MawashiGeri60 replied to Silverunicorn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The force of impact between two objects is largely determined by the objects' momentum. To see how this works, imagine a car speeding toward a wall. If the car crashes into the wall head-on, the direction of momentum is directly perpendicular to the wall. The front of the car and the area of wall it crashes into experiences the maximum force of impact, and both suffer maximum damage. But if the car collides with the wall from the side (as you might hit protective walls flanking a highway), the direction of momentum is at an angle to the wall. The momentum keeps the car moving forward, so the wall only feels a small fraction of the total force -

Karate is a highly complex art that takes many years to master. It is impossible to sum up this ancient, transcendental discipline in a short article, but we can get a handle on some of the underlying principles. Though its execution is highly complex, the root of karate is fairly straight-forward: By applying physical, mental and spiritual force intelligently and precisely, you can realize the maximum potential of your strength. -

Most people think of karate as being simply "karate", however, there are many styles of karate such as Goju-ryu, Kyokushinkai, Wado-ryu, Shorin-ryu, Shotokan, and Shito-ryu. To compound the matter further, there are substyles within the styles, such as Hayashi-ha, Itosukai, etc. Shito-ryu karate is probably the most popular form in West Japan. It was founded by Kenwa Mabuni who studied under Yasutsune Itosu. Mabuni also later studied under Kanryo Higashionna and later named his style of karate the Shito style, taking the first characters of each of his teacher's names. 'Shi' is the one of the Japanese readings for the character meaning "string" which is the first of the two characters which make up the name "Itosu". "Higashi" is the first character of Master Higashionna's name, which can also be read "to" in Japanese as it is in the characters for Tokyo. Master Mabuni combined them to get "Shito" as the name of his style. Kenwa Mabuni (1889-1952) brought his style of karate to Osaka in 1929 and concentrated on teaching it in universities in West Japan. Another major figure in Shito-ryu karate is the present head of the Itosukai branch of Shito-ryu, Master Ryusho Sakagami born in April,1915 who founded the Itosukai in 1954. Shito-ryu karate is characterized by the many kata (forms) which it has. Most practitioners in Japan will have studied more than 20 of them before they reach their first degree black belt, known as "shodan" in Japanese. In addition to kata, a tournament record is also required, together with the ability to best others of lower rank and of the rank aspired to in sparring. The Shito style uses many short, low stances and the stance known as "shiko-dachi" is common throughout many of the kata. "Shiko-dachi" is a stance similar to that the sumo wrestlers assume when they face off with each other before they put their knuckles to the ground. The traditional karate weapons: bo (staff), sai, nunchaku, and tonfa are also taught at the higher levels of Shito-ryu karate.

well u dont need so much experience to enter tournaments .. because u can spar in tournies with a beginners level . and they usually there for there first time also so u dont have to worry about a thing , i rememeber my first toruni i was nervous and didnt strike much but it is a gooe experience so u will not be afraid of fighting in public and or just trying your techniques out with other people of different styles .
