  1. I think it is a western kata done by Christians for Karate or something like that. I dunno for sure. I liked it. It was short and powerful. Aggressive the whole time.
  2. I thought it was a shotokan off shoot, so it's not going to be listed on your link. Thanks
  3. I think I found it. It's gisen or seisen meaning "crusade" or "military expedition."
  4. Maybe not, I'm going by ear.
  5. I've looked up the name in a Jap/Eng. Dictionary but the word is not listed, anyone know what it means?

BayouGirl, Do you know what kata they study?
  7. (if he's kicking with the right leg) Step in, slightly on a 45 scooping the kicking leg (by the thigh) with your right arm. Pull the back collar of the gi lifting the trapped leg to the roof. I'm lucky enough to pull this off all the time.
  8. I think it's a shotokan off shoot?
  9. Does anyone know anything about this kata? Is there a Gisen Dai?

I asked the Soke on the web site...nothing back.

    anyone do this style?
  14. I've had a couple of fights...wish I didn't. I now have a police record. It's not worth it at all. The best thing to do (which is what me and my brothers now do) is invite people from other clubs and styles and brawl. Not like fight club but with respect and in the spirit of karate and higher development of waza. Karate the way most train is all in the space when you have to use it in real time can you? Motobu was a great karateka. OSU!
  15. There's a guy in town that tested for his black belt in Combat Hapkido via video tape. He does his throws and locks with all power and force and it isn't hapkido. 2cents
  16. Isn't a home blend of karate?
  17. That was just a rumor on sherdog.com. He was an Olympic hopeful at one time but was dusted by other boxers at his weight.
  18. It is. I think the biggest difference is the amount of sub combo's done from you back. Kano was a big wrestling fan and used a lot of wrestling in Judo so you will find Judoka like the top a lot better, after all you can win with a 25 sec. hold down in Judo. Sho-ju
  19. When we train Judo it looks the same as bjj. (the ground work that is) Newton uses Judo all the time, in almost all his fights you can see him going for throws. Judo is stand up jiujitsu...that's the only point I'm trying to make. In Russia the judo looks more like sambo because they cross train in both. Ya, I guess Fedor is more wrestling/sambo. I don't think you'll find many point karate guys out amoung the top mma guys at all. Most of the new blood have Boxing/kickboxing or wrestling/sub fighting backgrounds now.
  20. Anyone have a link for different Korean patterns?
  21. Don Frye, Yoshida, Fedor (the current #1 fighter in Pride) Newton, Trigg, Takase (who just subed a top Anderson Silva), Herring (he Remco his grappling coach is a judoka), etc. Almost all the Japanese fighters have done judo. It's a good base for grappling. Christophe Leninger was not an olympic level judoka but a national judo champ. In UFC 13 Guy Mezger said he was one of the hardest guys he ever fought. Not to mention he was in his late 30's.... Judo (IMO) is better for the street (wrestling as well) because it forces you to be aggressive and stay on up on top/on your feet. Sho-judo
  22. Ya, it does depend on which camp your in. Take a look at Vitor...
  23. Yup!
  24. I would love to hear more about your kata, do you have a link?
