Question for you TKD, and Karate people
GrrrArg replied to Xerziz's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A lot of TKD styles teach counters to grapples, admitedly most would be trounced if they do end up on the ground, but getting them there in the first place isn't that easy. As TKDLadyInSC said a side kick to the knee will muck up anyone and is very hard to counter with a grapple. -
Has anyone here had a good gap year in South Africa? Im thinking of doing one in the safari parks-for about three months.

Ursula Andress was the best bond girl (Dr No), thats why Halle Berry did the tribute in the latest film.

Ti 4800 is real but apparently it performs below the 4600. I don't know how much $300 canadian dollars is but im gona guess at about £150. That will buy you a GeForce FX 5200 and leave you with some change, so maybe you get get a better model. I've heard good things about the Radeon 9500 which may also be in your price range, you don't say what you've got at the moment though so I can't give you any real performance comparrisons

As far as I know know body from England would be offended at being called a brit-somebody from the republic of ireland however...

Like that one Valithor-unfortunately i've been told before that the only time I open my mouth is to change feet! Meaning I don't say much and what I do sday is normally ofensive to somebody somewhere. So is australia really full of our ex-cons? ... See what I mean ... J/K

What's middle-America's problem with MA?!
GrrrArg replied to Fenris-wolf's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
"I live in New Zealand (wee island below Australia! )" And I thought NZ was in the US...? Most people who have reacted badly to finding out about my training do so more out of ntimidation than anything else I find. They see movies like Crounching Tiger (very over-rated IMO) I expect me to be able to run up tree's etc: They say something like-"Just cos you do MA do you think that makes you hard?" which you know kinda the whole point-karate being about self-defense and all. But as I've said on other threads im very open about my training and eventually people get used to it and it doesn't become a problem. -
Congrats-but will you have to wear one of those "attractive" white jumpsuite things you see forensics in on the Bill? (UK cop show-kind of an institution for all non-UK'ers).

I should've put this in the joke section shouldn't I?
GrrrArg replied to Kung Fu Hamster's topic in General Chat
Use a knife, they work better for cutting in my experience. I tried monkeygirls approach to spoon bendind, didn't work, I guess I just haven't got the correct mental attitude/powers oh well I'll just go watch the Matrix again. -
Kill you? Who says I want to kill you? I was just going to give you a nice steak from the butchers to show that Buffy fans are alround nice people... ..go back to the "bond" posts I just posted there...

The word you're looking for is Brit. Believe me I know that Connery is Scotish (can't exactly mistake the accent!) About the american thing, I was only joking However I would put Rodger Moore as the second best bond (Brosnan in 3rd), he had a very British sense of humor (very dry) which isn't a typically american sense of humor. Hell even us Brit's think Rodger Moore is very British, kinda upper class personality etc: Anyhow, who does everyone think is the best bond?...

I'm a brown belt too. We have three brown belts in our club, so in theory we should be on browns for about 18 months-although it tends to be bit longer. Being a brown belt means you're nearly the next grade up.. I would agree that its kind of like the teenage years/intermediate level.

I believe in god (the christian one I suppose) but no im not christian, don't go to church or anything-although I would never criticise anyone who does-I personally believe in a god without a church. There was a film that I saw that pretty much catagorised my particular beliefs-if anyone can remember the name please tell us (Al Pacino was in it I think).

Americans should not be allowed to talk about James Bond. Hes British, Rule Britania, Britania she shall rule...hmm de he do hum de ho don't know the rest of the words de ho de hum de da. Who's the best bond then...Sean Connery of course.

Its either monsters under your bed or you have a clan of lesser-spoted karate-ka living in your walls. Get a big old stick, were as much clothing as you can and put towels on your face, go outside and do a rain dance or something, or you could thrash said stick under bed to see if something gets irrated and tries to attack you...just hope their not killer bees-or trolls. Alternatively an exorcism may work.

An Athlon 2600 doesn't have a clock speed of 2.6 ghz, its somewhere around 2.3/2.4 but AMD call it the 2600 because it performs at the same level as a P4 2.4 ghz (the same with all Athlons that have numbers like that after them) but the athlons are more than good enough (im using a 2600 and its damn fast). Basically clock speed is how many actions the processor can perform in one cycle, pentiums have higher clock speeds than equivalent athlons, but the athlons do more per cycle at the same clock speed (there a little more efficient). You won't have any problems running games for a while with that spec of computer, oh and don't be tempted to go for super high end 3d cards like the GeForce FX range, their performance is good but the price isn't justified, the radeon 9600 you talk about is a very good card. As far as games go, im an RPG fan myself and the best to get are Baldurs Gate 2 and Neverwinter Nights both from Bioware and Planescape torment is amazing but a little old now. FPS's, Battlefield 1942 is good, Half-life is always worth it and the second one is coming out in November( ). Unreal 2 may be worth a look if you want to really use your graphics card. RTS-the best at the moment is Warcraft 3 (havent played the addon pack yet) and Rise of nations is rather good too, you could also try pretty much anything in the Command and Conquer series. Phew, long post...

Yeah Angel does get alot better, its a lot darker than Buffy with more adult aimed humor and violence I think its great. Nothing to do with Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) being in it... Now im off to stake/steak battousai16...

I do wonder why the club lets this happen, although it is worth pointing out that many senior instructors or RM's don't "employ" 9th kyu's as instructors. Also like you said, I too train with the best instructor I could find and still would even if the rest of the entire club was 9th kyu sensei's.

Watch an episode of Buffy, at the end after the credits this white screen comes up and a badly drawn zombie comes on and goes "Grrr Arg" kinda funny when i first saw it and it stuck. Oh any Buffy bashing that follows this post will be harshly dealt with

Don't use hook kicks or spinning kicks much but the side kicks I find can be made more powerful by pulling your hips back away from the direction your kicking in whilst preparing the kick and then pushing them forward whilst projecting out the kick, then just before the kick lands pull the hips back to where they were before and this gives the kick alot of snap. You don't say if you were doing the above telsun so if you are sorry for the time waste
