  1. so how long do you want to attend training? i dont think it is better to take part in a 6-months course to know a little about self defence rather than do a MA. its better to really get into one. Wing Chun for example is well for self-defence. u better look around in ur area what dojos there are and then decide which one seems to teach the most self-defence.
  2. still depends on the instructor/dojo as well. if u r good at kicking TKD is worth a visit. but if u dont care which of the 3 styles u want to do (e.g. because u r not interested in the philosophy behind them or dont yet know enough about'em) i agree to the others.
  3. any pros and conts? similarities? what brings me into a better shape? [edit] what does tkd have what kung fu doesnt and the other way round!?
  4. yeah - Shaolin Kung Fu it is... tell me about it please dont know anything at all. what is it good for? what can i reach? r there belts? how long does it take to achieve the next one? how many r there? does Shaolin K.F. bring me into good shape? is it good for self-defence? and everything else certainly is interesting for me, too
  5. so the sports tkd is just the flashy stuff and sparring?
  6. what do you learn in a dojo that mainly teaches TKD in order to make u a good tournament fighter? is there anything bad about it? does it still have something to do with traditional TKD? how about self-defence? do tournament punches/kicks make sense in sd situations? and does this kind of training bring me into a good shape? many questions - few answers... sry but thanks in advance anyway
  7. sounds like somekind of placebo effect to me... and a little too good to be true. nonetheless i guess "real" training is still more effectiv than this mind stuff.
  8. kind of much for a 17 year old like me without own income. what is it u r training? do you train more than one martial art at the same dojo? does it have a fitness center attached, that is open 5 or 7 days a week? and what do you others pay?
  9. hi - i wanted to know what specific questions there are, that i should ask my instructor before i sign any contracts. i mean as for training and everything.
  10. yes, indeed. but nonetheless there are different prices around and i dont think it always is the better school that has a higher fee. i just wanted to know what is "normal"
  11. i've just asked myself what u guys pay for a fee.
  12. though it might be a very stupid question... i came across this "Chan Hun"style. what exactly is this and is there anything special about it? what aspects of TKD are trained more when i visit a Chan Hun Dojo??
  13. dont think muay thai is right for me. i am poundering whether to choose kung fu (dont know for sure which style to train) or tkd. this post should help me deciding because physical fitness is most important to me followed by mental stuff like meditation.
  14. yes indeed thought the chinese forum visitors could help me better regarding kung fu. as for "mental aspects" i was talking about meditation and search for answers or whatever philosophy is behind kung fu (dont know much by yet ). my primary goal nonetheless was to get into shape. dont know which of these (tkd/kung fu) helps me better.
  15. i wondered what could help my cardio/fitness better and in a shorter amount of time. is it kung fu or taekwondo? taekwondo is said to be well for ppl like me that wish results at physical fitness already after few weeks/months of training. so what about kung fu?
  16. hey everybody! i am 17 years old. i think of learning a martial art and so far the best choice seems to be either taekwondo or kung fu. most important to me are the mental aspects and physical fitness. in how far is kung fu better at these aspects than other martial arts? according to which criteria shall i choose an association? are there certain exercises a beginner could do at home to prepare for training, before i REALLY begin with a martial art? what equipment do i need? hope u can help me!!
  17. thats exactly what i wanted to hear think i'll do some jogging + push ups + stretching for now and soon visit tkd schools in the area. thanks alot!
  18. it probably depends on what tkd school u visit. self defense plays an important role in tkd and it is hard to believe that everyone who believes that its an effective style (including trainers) is an idiot/a bad martial artists. any martial art, when mastered, is more than enough to beat a brutal no brain just brawn, either half-drunk or not. this did not belong into the topic - i know. my questions were how to prepare myself and whether its good to start tkd to gain physical fitness
  19. ah - so jogging it is. too bad cause i thought there might be certain kind of gymnastic or something. thanks anyway!
  20. i am not doing a martial art yet but would like to begin in the next weeks. though i am not even sure WHAT to begin, i think some more cardio could not be wrong. is there anything apart from jogging or push ups that help me prepare for bringing something into the first lesson cannot be wrong. thank u in advance.
  21. combat hapkido indeed sounds not bad, but it is too much self defense and too few getting into shape and everything. i never heard of Ji Do Kwan and dont think there is a school around. kung fu is cool - thought of trying out, but probably too much punching, while tkd is in a way too much kicking. i saw a tournament fight of and none of them performed a punch. regarding my question whether its better to change after having done tkd, combat hapkido wouldnt be the right choice AFTER tkd because i'd do this for shape and hapkido does not need atheltics. i dont understand why tkd is held in such low esteem in this forum. as a beginner i think it suits well for me.
  22. i indeed wanted to get into shape. selfdefense and breaktests etc are cool stuff as well but are not that important to me. until now i didnt really do a martial art. does it make sense to change the MA after a having done tkd for a certain amount of time? and whats the deal with the exercises to prepare myself? at the moment i cannot join an association yet and i dont want to waste the time until i finally can.
  23. is training 3+ times a week the only way to reach something? or do you guys earn ur money with marial arts?
  24. this certainly IS a very good clip. and probably its the bones that make the asians do it i'd like to know what music is used in the clip.
