  1. lol, coming from what i went through for my police training, they view most martial arts as useless. that most martial artist havnt got a clue. I wouldnt let this put you off in training though, everything they taught me was baby stuff. a few slaps, kicks, headbutts. etc in my opinion martial arts are one of the best things for an officer to do. it goes beyond locks and handcuffing in my opinion. there are trained streetwise people out there, nasty people, who will tear your head off without a second thought. and although its the worst case scenario you could be on your own whilst this is happening. now if one of these people happened to attack me, i could potentially be killed if i didnt defend myself. this is where the training comes in. in police training they teach you the basics, which i believe just isnt enough. But after years of training in tae kwon do, judo, jeet kun do, i can kick hard, i can punch hard, and i can throw hard. which cant be said for allot of other officers i know, who couldnt fight there way out of a paper bag, im not saying being an officer is all about fighting. But i think allot of the time people underestimate the importance of possessing those skills, sure talking is one thing. but some people wont talk, instead theyll snap. Your colleague might only be 20 seconds away from you, but in those 20 seconds you could be having your head kicked in to the ground by some mug. for the police force id learn some elements of aikido, jeetkun do for fast flowing locks, a grappling art of your choice and a striking art of your choice. and if the trainers ever give you a hard time about it as they did with me, just think that there the ones missing out.
  2. Basically if i was you i wouldnt rush it, as you learn more and more throws and test them in randori you tend to get a feel for what throws are more suitable for you and what throws arent. I wouldnt worry about using every 1 of the 67 throws in randori. at the end of the day, you want to win. so why bother trying to use throws that dont suit you. even all the top judoka have about 4 or 5 favourite throws that they reguarly use in competition and this is why they have been so sucessful Sure in gradings they like to see you perform certain techniques against non resisting partners, to prove you actually know the technique. But it might be a technique you wouldnt even dream of using whilst fighting. in my opinion, the spirit of judo is through competition, and the object is to win
  3. hell, im a copper and even i would have beat the crap out of him. i cant Congratulate you enough on how you acted
  4. i could say the say the same for allot of WTF guys to
  5. man that was a sweet knockout
  6. id definetly recommend taking up a striking art with it, whilst judo is great for grappling, most schools ive seen arent too concerned with striking. but hey, learning how to deflect- defend strikes so you can move in to grappling range is a huge benefit. Becasue once youve grabbed them, there gonna have an unpleasent landing
  7. jet li wasnt a full contact champion, and never will be. He is a champion in chinease wushu, a martial art thats mainly for show. he has even admited himself that he doesnt learn martial arts for fighting. and yes jackie chan is a master of stunts. and his kung fu did mainly come from the opera. but if hes supposed to be a black belt in hapkido. which i fully support as a combat martial art, then i doubt hes a pushover.........
  8. in a street fight, 1 on 1, what would your top judo throws be that you think ud be able to execute under such pressure? you could include groundwork to.
  9. the only way i can throw someone down with O SOTO GARI is to quickly pull them to towards me so there only balancing on 1 leg. Other than that its impossible for me to pull off. people just move too quickly otherwise
  10. its definetly gotta be O Soto Gari, the throw is just brutal. hard to apply, but brutal

  20. just make sure you dont get the idea that everything is gonna run smoothly and shell be the girl of your dreams and ull be be married in so many years. Best to take every relationship with some caution, Theres nothing worse than being dumped when you find that youve gotten too attached to them.
  21. im gonna be starting a shotokan karate class soon, i was wondering though should i mention that im a black belt in Tae kwon do if the instructor asks of any martial arts experience. when i started judo the instructor was fine with me, but with the similarites between karate and tae kwon do im wondering if they will be a bit iffy about it. I mean its gonna show that ive done martial arts before through sparring ect, im just worried about what i should say. I wouldnt want any of the art bashing either, ie karate is way better than Tae kwon do. cus even the greatest school in the world will take a bash or 2 every now and then. I also wouldnt wanna be known also in the class as the guy who is a "black belt in Tae kwon do" any suggestions would be cool
