Guess I can't be as tough on the Jets this week since the did win, headline should read: Jets defeat Jaguars in the most unimportant game of the season. Jacksonville has three wins and is on their backup QB, but hey the Jets did end a four-game losing streak. Offensive explosion in Detroit as the Bills beat the Lions 48-42. The loss ends the Lions franchise long 11 game win streak. Minnesota and Chicago play tomorrow, and if the Vikings win that would tie them with Detroit in the North, though the Lions did win the first head-to-head meeting. Raiders and Falcons also play on Monday night, so if you enjoy MNF double headers you get one tomorrow. Other winners on Suday were the Chiefs, Cowboys, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Commanders, Bucs, Broncos, Cardinals, Eagles, and the Packers are leading the Seahawks right now in the 4th quarter.

Years ago we had a new student come in and ask if we knew any self-defense techniques against a drive by shooting. If I had known about CarJitsu I would have recommend he go train over there. -

I am following this advice! I've never liked lunges but did not have this knee issue until recently, anytime I do it I feel like there is presser on my knee and then it is sore for the rest of the day. Concerning. Maybe it is because I am getting older. *shrugs*

A few news and notes: The Ducks have traded Cam Flower to the Blues in exchange for Jeremie Biakabutuka and a 2027 2nd round pick. Maples Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is listed as day to day after suffering a lower body injury this week. He has a 9-1 record and a 2.15 GGA so far this season is second best in the league. Since there are a lot of games today here are some of the early day finals. Oilers 6-3 over Knights, Devils 4-1 over Blackhawks, Kings 5-1 over Rangers, Wild 4-1 over Flyers. -
With the Rams win over the 49ers on Thursday LA improves to 8-6 and they have won three in a row. San Fransico drops to 6-8, now three back of first place Seattle in the loss column, making it long odds that last year's NFC Champion will return to the playoffs this season. Like many teams the 49ers have been hit hard with the injury bug, they are in last place in the division and are now three back in the wild card race. They would need to win out to finish 9-8 and then get a lot of help from other teams.

Penguins beat the Canadians in the blowout of the night, 9-2. There were a few other blowouts but that was the biggest one. Oilers caged the Wild 7-1 and the Lightning electrocuted the Flames 8-3. Knights beat the Jets in overtime, Capitals beat the Jackets in OT, other winners were the Flyers, Islanders, Predators. Sharks, Kraken, Canucks, and the Utah Hockey Club. Only one game coming up for Friday the 13th (who schedules this??) it is the Senators at the Hurricanes. -
There is a CVS five minutes away from me, I will look for this next time I go in there. Thanks!

I would say too, take a look around at several schools in your area, different styles, instructors, class schedules, ect, and see what fits you. Most places give a free trial class with no commitment, so don't be afraid to take your time and make your decision, the time and money spent on training is yours so no need to rush into something that is not a good fit.

Oh my...that is...wow. How long before we see a player sign a one-billion-dollar contract? About four years ago Patrick Mahomes signed the largest contract in sports history, and now he is not even in the top ten highest paid quarterbacks! Each year the contracts will get larger as long as the sports money keeps coming in.

Vegas is looking good, and now with Stone back in the lineup I expect they will be scoring more. Though the LA Kings are hot and right on their tail. Could be an interesting race in that division. Only two games on Wednesday, the Senators beat the Ducks 5-1 behind a hat trick from Drake Batherson, which included his 100th career goal. Ducks have now lost 4 in a row. Rangers beat the Sabers 3-2. Rangers have struggled a little bit of late, maybe this will be the start of a turn around. Nashville did not lose today because they were off. Disappointing season for them, if this keeps up they won't be the Predators any longer, more like the sheep that were lead to the slaughterhouse. When there is a slow night, the next one is usually busy, 14 games on Thursday, including your Knights Bob, who will be in Winnipeg. -
Oh, I am not a Jets fan at all, but I did pick them to go to the Super Bowl this year, and a friend of mine bet big money on them to win the division. I am just amazed how bad they are, for having a hall of fame QB, a hall of fame WR, and a top five defense in the league a year ago, with all the money and trades they made for that team to succeed they continue to underperform in spectacular ways. This will be nine years in a row the Jets will finish with a losing record and 14 years in a row they will miss the playoffs. The same could be said about the Cowboys, Jerry Jones has sunk plenty of money into that roster only to have a disaster of a season. If the Jets were not the sinking ship that they are the Cowboys would be the biggest underachievers this season. At least Dallas can point to some injuries such as the QB. While it has been tough for them no question that the Jets have been the biggest disgrace in the NFL all season. The entire franchise is an embarrassment to pro football. The Raiders have had a tough, long season for sure. My guess is they clean house after the season. Right now, they are in position for the #1 draft choice, so maybe better days are ahead.

Excellent tips, thank you @Nidan Melbourne and @sensei8 for taking the time to read and comment.

No. Years ago I went to an AA meeting at the recommendation (or badgering I guess) of a friend who had been sober for a few years. It was the most depressing experience; all I wanted to do was drink. An hour of everyone talking about how drinking screwed up their lives along with expressing their displeasure with the NA group next door. I literally was so miserable thar right after I drove to the bar and got drunk. Never went back.

Oh it is the truth, unless I am TRYING to fall asleep, then nothing will happen at all.

5th Dan Testing
KarateKen replied to bushido_man96's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Outstanding promotion! Congratulations!! -
I understand this and that has been mostly my approach, not to chase rank just test when I am told I am ready. I got to red stripe in TKD, about a year away from testing for black belt, and then left. At the time I was moving more toward an interest in self-defense martial arts and not tournament training for points, so I went and took up Hapkido full time. Looking back I somewhat regret not doing one more year and getting my black belt, assuming things would have worked out as planned. it would have been a great achievement, but at the time I decided it was more important to me to focus on a self-defense art exclusively. You make decisions in life and ya live with them!

Interesting question. I wouldn't say rank so much but more the time in which I trained. My view of the golden years of my martial arts journey was when I trained in college. I did TKD, Hapkido, a semester of Tai Chi, and took two semesters of Japanese Jujitsu. Held different ranks in all of them but what made that so much fun was the students, I became close with several people who were all in my age group and going through the same thing, moving up in the ranks, single, living the college life. I was trying to consume as much MA knowledge as I could, and I loved the journey during those few years. As I got older and people graduated, many of them moved away or left the arts because of other responsibilities, and while I enjoyed many of other people I trained with after that, it just was never the same. We would train together, hang out together, get drunk together, all the things college friends do. Then something bad happened, we had to grow up! Took a lot of the fun away. Sometimes I still look back and miss those days.

4th dan at long last.

Congratulations, an outstanding accomplishment. Only a small percent of martial arts students become a 4th degree. Does that put you at master rank in the art? -

The Utah Hockey Club had their first shootout in team history tonight and did it in front of their home crowd, facing Minnesota. However, it did not go how Utah wanted, Matt Boldy of the Wild put one in the net and the Wild get the two points, winning 5-4. Maples Leafs beat the Devils 2-1 in OT, and the other winners tonight included the Flyers, Avalanche beat the red-hot Penguins, Hurricanes, Flames, Kings, Lightning, Panthers over Kraken in a shootout, Blues over Canucks in OT, and the Jets hammered the Bruins 8-1. -
Agreed, and that is a good approach. I also find traveling is where I am vulnerable, and since I am traveling for the holidays, I will need to be fully on guard.
