It is good to be back! And here is an update. We stopped training on Fort Drum once Covid hit. I found a permanent home in Carthage, New York, at the Carthage Augustinian Academy Gymnasium later in 2020, and we have been there ever since (my wife is a school teacher there). My wife made Shodan last summer and we are now running an after school karate program, plus Shubu Kan kids' classes, and Shubu Kan adult classes, so all is going well. Karate no michi! -

Martial Arts movies
Fat Cobra replied to Bulltahr's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Bulltahr, I guess it depends on what type of martial arts movie you are looking for. I think these are all good ones (I also included TV series): - Mortal Kombat (the new movie) - Jiu Jutsu - Cobra Kai (TV Series) - Warrior (TV Series) - Kung Fu (TV Series) - Daredevil (TV Series -- comic book based but good martial arts) - Titans (TV Series -- comic book based but good martial arts) - All the John Wick movies Upcoming movies that have potential: - Shang Chi - Snake Eyes - John Wick 4 -

Zaine, congratulations!!!! Excellent work!!! Karate no michi! -
I agree with Bushido_Man. I have been running my own school now for almost 3 years, all as a 3rd Dan. It is greatly rewarding and you learn as much teaching students as they do. Good luck. Karate no Michi!

We call that weapon Tanbo, and I agree with Sensei8 that it is a great weapon with a multitude of uses (though my expertise weapon is the Manji Sai). I did some Arnis training about 11 years ago while stationed in Iraq. We were at a small FOB, and I taught Ryukyu Kempo at night to some soldiers. One of the students was a civilian contractor who lived in the Thailand (an American Expat), and had studied Arnis in the Philippines. He was very good at Modern Arnis and trained us after karate class. I think you will very much enjoy the training. Karate no Michi! Bushido!

Do you have them teach a small group first? Yes, they will assist with teaching for a while to assess their abilities.

In our schools, the student has to meet specific belt rank criteria PLUS be able to demonstrate certain requisite skills (like mirror imaging exercises and kata in front of the class, say all commands in Japanese, etc.) PLUS have the confidence of the Sensei (which is subjective). All of these criteria must be met.

Cobra Kai, Season 3 (Spoilers)
Fat Cobra replied to Patrick's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
It was a great season. I have read (only rumors) that this show is planned out until at least season 6 and there may even be a Kreese spin-off. No details on the spin-off, but it would be great to see more of Kreese's younger days. Regardless, I am enjoying this show tremendously. This and Warrior are my favorite two shows on TV today!
