  1. Wamp, I have one and I am not a Wing Chun practitioner. I use it for 2 purposes: 1) Ude tanren (forearm conditioning) which I emphasize in my dojo. We do one on one forearm conditioning, then, when I am training alone I have the forearm hammer and the Wooden Dummy. The wooden dummy is tough and extremely unforgiving, but it does toughen up your forearms. 2) I also use it for blocking drills. Inside block, step at an angle to the opponent, outside block, strike. It is a great training tool, though some can run quite expensive. If you can find one within your budget, I recommend it. Karate no michi!

  12. JR 137, I understand completely. However I would highly encourage you to still workout. It may help you handle this pandemic better than not working out. As an aside, for years I had to train on my own. It was tough, and sometimes I failed to find the motivation to do it. However, in the end it all paid off. Our gym, which is on a US Army Post, restricted us from training there back in March of this year. In April, we moved outdoors to a park and kept our same practice schedule there until the end of October. Now, with daylight ending earlier and cold weather coming through, we have made adjustments. We are indoors...varying between a personal home garage gym and my wife's school's basketball gym (she works at a Private Catholic School that has remained open full time for in class teaching). But, we are a very small dojo, myself and 6 students only, so it is easy to make these adjustments. Again, my encouragement to you is to still try to workout. It is not only physically helpful but also mentally therapeutic. Good luck. Karate no Michi!
  13. We just wrapped up our Dojo's annual "Legends of the Fall" Weight Loss Challenge. This is a 10 week weight loss challenge with those participating getting weighed after class every Friday. It ended last Friday, and the 1st Place winner lost over 6% of his body weight. 2nd Place (which was myself) lost over 5% of body weight. 3rd place lost over 3% of body weight. It was a good challenge.
  14. Congratulations on the award! Karate no michi!
  15. Bulltahr, I agree with you 100%. I have been enjoying this league more and more. Karate no michi!

  17. I have practiced both and, like the previous posts, I don't believe it gets you mystical powers. However, it does help you focus and potentially control body functions that you may not normally be able to control. I believe both are good to do.
  18. Congratulations, Dmitriy! Karate no Michi.
  19. Welcome, Wamp. Karate no michi!
  20. We have been training outdoors since March because the gym we operate out of is still restricted. While I enjoy outdoor training, I am looking forward to getting back into the Dojo once the gym re-opens* *Note, because of the sun going down sooner and the weather getting colder we will have to train inside within the next couple of weeks anyway though we can't go back to the Dojo. We are looking at options right now.
