martialartist1 replied to Ali's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
yeh, i think cung le will go all the way and win K-1 for his weight. -
check out my pic for a side split: http://www.geocities.com/leungtg/martialartstrainingtips.html tp://https://www.geocities.com/leungtg/jasonleung.html side splits is when your side on, front splits is when your front on. if you sparred then perhaps u could of pulled the hip muscle by extending kicks to much or extending punches too much. if its your first few times you have ever done the splits then you are bound to expect strains like what you mentioned, but they eventually go away.

Student kicks teacher suffers
martialartist1 replied to ramcalgary's topic in Instructors and School Owners
"Should a teacher be liable if a student uses his training in a violent aggressive way." simply both the teacher and martial artist should respect each other. and if a student uses martial arts training in a violent way then the teacher should warn the student of the consequences, but sometimes aggression is needed in training, but only in the correct way where no one gets hurt or injured in order to enable quality martial arts excellence. -
Should blackbelts be withheld until a certain age?
martialartist1 replied to karatefox's topic in Karate
"some dojos won't allow even a skilled person under sixteen to get their blackbelt until they are sixteen. Should age affect it?" well if they have trained between 2-3 or over 3 years then they should be capable of getting the black belt, even when they are skilled too. so i think age shouldnt affect it because you see little kids get black belts and there way under 16 years of age. -
"There are some boys in my studio that get in trouble regularly because they refuse to spar with girls, because they don't hit girls, I think this is ludicrous, and it's not chivalry in my opinion, any opinions on this subject from boys or girls on how they view are welcome." well, my fellow martial artist, I think if boys refuse to spar with girls then thats fine whether they hit girls or not. if girls refuse to spar with boys then thats fine to, it really all depends on the individual.

"If anyone would have taken over the legacy of Bruce, it would have been his son Brandon, had he lived. Hands down! Shannon isn't a slouch in the martial arts either." i think your wrong, brandon lee said himself that he loved his father bruce lee, but wouldnt follow in the same footsteps as him because brandon unfortuntely didnt have bruce lee's charisma, skill. so brandon would make decent action martial arts movies, but without the charima and true martial arts qualities. brandon was like the opposite of bruce in terms of true martial arts abilities, except for making movies. brandon said himself he wanted to be more of an action star actor than a great martial artist. and as for shannon, well atleast shes made some decent action films with martial arts in, just like brandon i suppose. shannon isnt a slouch, cos i heard shes had training in TKD, just like brandon had training in wing chun, JKD, kickboxing by i believe JKD legendary dan inosanto.

i think, no one will ever compared to bruce lee. some say jackie chan is the next bruce lee, but thats no true, because jackie is the action comedy star, not the serious one. some say jet li is the next bruce lee, that can be true in some ways, but not all. even jet said himself he would borrow some ideas of bruce, but will not borrow all ideas, cos jet has his own opinions. people who copy him will be imitators. they said donnie yen was the bruce lee of the 90's, that is true in terms of how bruce lee would of carried on in terms of martial arts action filmaking, but for rest of the qualities, donnie yen is regarded to be influenced by bruce. donnie will never be exactly like bruce, but will be influenced by him and contain similiar qualities, whenever donnie is involved with filmaking and martial arts.

"I'm fifteen, and female Do you think there is a "right" or "appropriate" age to start Muay Thai? My parents think it is preposterous." well, in my opinion you can start whenever you have time to. starting in the teens is a good age because you know your availablity and purposes of training. just makesure on the safety rules and issues for the club you train and wheter you agree with them or not. remember muay thai is a dangerous sport if your not prepared or aware of the bad consequences, espcially if your female. females are usually weak and more vunerable so if its your first martial art style then i suggest you do some research before you start. are you a brave, strong person? its cos you need to be espcially for muay thai standards or otherwise you may be picked on by people who have no respect. i suggest you start kickboxercise as this style many women agree on, you can exercise to music to, but the choice is yours.

"after excercising and martial art training, where i use punch bags, numerous different press ups including one handed, and weights ive started to develop painfull and weak bones. my shoulders, hips, ankle and ecspecially my wrists are hurting more and generally feeling weaker. ive been to the doctor and there is no sign of arthiritis. I do admit that i do push myself to the limit by doing more strenous excercises does anyone have any solutions to my problems?" yeh, if you've got weak bones then you need to drink more milk as it contains calcium for stronger bones. Drink about one glass of milk a day, and you will expect stronger bones. you shoulders, hips, ankle and wrists may hurt more because your perhaps exercising too often or not correctly, here makesure you do the workout properly and not too much, because the human body can only accept a certain limit. the human body cannot go on forever, therefore needs a rest between your workouts. also if you tend to feel weak, try to improve your diet for a healthier balanced one. e.g. vegatables and meat, more nutritional foods and protein foods.

Is this normal
martialartist1 replied to GreenDragon's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
yeh you will eventually get used to it the more you practise it, and your muscles will toughen and be conditioned. start practising slowly and not so hard, then gradually build up speed and strength when you get used hitting the thai pads. -
starting in the teens is a comfortable period to start training in martial arts. the best time is to start when you a kid like 5 + years old. one advantage of starting in teens is that one'e human body would have developed more, therefore developed more for martial arts training, wheras when your a kid there more chance of accidents and injuries to the human body because its more vulnerable and still developing. one advantage of starting as a kid is better flexibility and suppleness. another advantage of starting in teen is you are more organised and know your availability to train and know more of why your are training in martial arts and the purpose of it, whereas when your a kid they do not know much about why they are doing it and will they wana continuing doing it and what it will make of them in the future. there are loads more other advantages and disadvantages, but i aint gona explain everything you know.

tae kwon do means the way of kicking fist. i suppose in initial years of tkd development all the kicks were simple jumping kicks, until later when koreans added the 540 kicks, spinning double kicks. e.t.c. tae kwon do can be effective and ineffective. e.g. ages ago i saw a video clip, of tkd guy and muay thai, muay thai totally dominated the fight. its the individual abilities for how good one can be in whatever style. so you can say tkd is better than muay thai, if one uses it more effectively and has had the correct training like only fighting muay thai fighers to get more experience and then eventually one practising TKD will eventually defeat muay thai style. all TKD needs is more modernisation in both combative side and self defense side.

anyone know anything bad about krav maga?
martialartist1 replied to robodjs's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
"No martial art is better than a gun, but id rather be in court for assulting a man in a fight than for killing him". on the streets, if they have a gun and intend to kill you, you can seriously disarm the attacker with the gun and serious injure them or if attacker already shot you, then if one intends to fight back then you could kill them if you are really strong, but it is the martial artist indivuals choice to handle the situation. in my opinion, if they intend to kill you or hurt you, its better to disarm them and injure the attacker with the gun and then let the cops handle it. so martial arts can be better than a gun attacker if the martial artist indivual is good enough. e..g. quick decision thinking, quickness in their martial artists moves, skillness in the martial artists moves, and knowing they have adjustable strength and power. -

martialartist1 replied to Tombstone's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yeh you learn more in complex balanced systems that you do when learning in simple balanced systems. -
if they hit you hard, then you gota fight back and beat them! if they slap you silly and joke, then you can play about with them and show that they are the ones that foolish in the end. if they have a knife then you've gota put them down with defensive techniques. you need practice knife defence and self defense drills in your lessons. there loads more you will learn. keep it up anyway.

axe kick
martialartist1 replied to Lau gar's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
who uses the axe kick here you can target your opponents head take down their guard followed up with a straight punch can get an easy point so who uses it? you can point the toes or use the heel when performing the axe kick. using the heel does more damage, so if you wana be safer then point your toes when sparring. pointing the toes makes the axe kick look better and sharper. its when you in close with your spar partner you can drop the foot downward on the head pointing to toes for the best safety. when you use the heel coming downwards on the spar partner head, thats when you gota be careful. -
To bounce or not to bounce?
martialartist1 replied to Valn's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
From various instructor and styles of martial arts I have heard two different answers. Some said that bouncing is bad thing because it waste energy, but on the otherhand I've heard other instructor said that bouncing is the key in sparring and fighting. yeh bouncing waste energy, but if you have energy stored then you should bounce. preparing yourself with energy before you spar would make up sparring sesssion with good spars. you should eat and drink water 2 hours before you spar or otherwise injuries would occur. bouncing is a good thing, besides it doesnt waste that much energy because you can bouce lightly, slowly instead lively fast e.t.c. you bounce to suit yourself when sparring. yeh boucing is one of the key factors in sparring because its shows you are trying and are ready to explode you moves. e.g. you can bounce for while, throw continous punches for while, bounce for while, dodging technqiues thrown from spar partner, bounce for while analysing your distancing, timing, accuracy, footwork of the spar partner. bounce for a while to set yourself up for specific direct move, bounce for a while and defending/offending opponents moves e.t.c. its like if you dont bounce your not trying, and if your not trying your not willing and putting effort in. another factor while boucing is chances of injury is decreased as blood and oxygen circulate around the body more warming up your muscles more, enabling better techniques to be executed e.t.c. whereas if you just dont move on the spot and suddenly explode then you could easily pull a muscle or unexpect your spar partners moves because your footwork isnt ready .et.c.
