They were tangled up on the ground. And I had it backwards, Hackney hit Joe Son 30 times in the nuts.

"well actually chimps couldn't kick our *, they're teeth aren't sharp and they dont have claws, they may be agile but a good kicking to the face will put any chimp in his place." LOL. How sharp are our teeth and claws?

J-Lo, when we knife-spar, we gear up. Helmets with faceshields. Yes, we get bruised up, but we can spar with FULL contact and rarely have a serious injury. The worst injury any of us have incurred is a swollen sack from not cupping up. As far as "successful" breaks, you can grapple at full speed and power, and still control your submission techniques. My nose has been broken three times. Stuff happens. I train full contact because I fight full contact, and you fight how you train.

"Kick boxing is just a sport like Football. Karate is a martial art. There are a lot more meaning to it than just learning how to fight. It is about respect and disapline." I hear this a lot, and I don't tend to agree. I learned respect and discipline from my parents, martial arts were always for fun and fighting. Just because your art may appear "respectful" or "disciplined" through external appearances(bowing, clean white uniform, lots of yelling in foreign languages) does not mean you are any more disciplined or respectful than the guy who forces himself to do ten more pushups, fight one more round, to push himself past the breaking point every day.

I've got a few large tattoos, but none of them are directly related to the martial arts. One is a large piece that crawls halfway up my neck. It just looks intimidating sticking out of my gi. As far as getting asian script detailing your art of choice, be careful. You don't want to get the tattoo and find out upon further inspection that it really means "sucker" or "dummy".

"The only difference is that Im not as strong physically as before when I had more muscle bulk." Is this good or bad in regards to your situation?

takedowns

A good wrestler uses his own footork to nullify lateral movement by cutting off your circle. Then he can set up the shot. Regardless, you NEED lateral movement, because it's better than standing there like a tree, or moving straight forward or backward. Just hope that your opponent isn't a high caliber wrestler. Here's a good tip. Don't get in fights with anyone with cauliflower ears. -
Just hit them where they're soft. Sure, a good groin kick may drop them, may just make them mad, but they sure won't be running after you at full speed afterwards.

Boxing vs Judo

I've done both. If you want to remember your childhood in 20 years, do Judo. -

Well, he sells the Legendary Farmer Burns 1914 Mail Order Course, which can be found for free online. http://www.sandowplus.co.uk/Competition/Burns/lessons/lesson01.htm He is a former Shuai Chiao champ, but is NOT a catch wrestler. He nuthugs Karl Gotch, but cannot be considered a Gotch protege or even a student. He was TOYED with by a much smaller Joe Hurley when he stopped by the Lion's Den, and was reportedly INCREDIBLY out of shape. A guy who sells a book called Combat Conditioning? Out of Shape? Perhaps he should try some of his own "Combat Conditioning" instead of making sure he has a new article in every issue of Grappling. -
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has been beaten to a pulp by Bob Sapp, only to eventually submit him, was being trounced by Cro-Cop Filopovic, only to submit him, and was the victim of a brutal GnP mugging at the hands of Pride HW champ Fedor Emilianenko. He took the hardest shots I have seen in the sport, and has not been KO'ed. Tough would be an understatement.

Since I started on a bodyweight and plyometric routine, I have had more gains in strength, speed and endurance than I ever did lifting weights, and many nagging injuries have completely gone away. Got a bad back? Work on bridging. Free squats are MUCH easier on the knees than weights. Do 100 free squats a day, and let us know if your kicks seem faster AND more powerful. Bodyweight calisthenics bring functional strength that is easily applied to martial arts.

I do full contact and full speed with FAKE knives. I train as many scenarios with the highest degree of realism possible, against real, resisting opponents. You would be shocked how many "sure-fire" techniques you throw away. And as far as precision strikes go, no two people have the same reaction as far as flinching and body mechanics. You can aim for the throat, but you won't always hit it. And when you do hit it, you might be shocked when your opponent keeps coming after you. If you train "one shot, one kill" KOs, you better have a plan B. You don't have to go full force every time you train, but you have to work it into the curriculum at least once or twice a month. Just know your limits, and keep the lines of communication open. Take a knee if you get rocked, tap early, etc. Too many martial artists out there that freeze up when they need their skills the most.

"I think full contact without padding is dangerous. The way my instructors did sparring was based on the simple fact that Karate strikes aim to disable or even kill and are delivered to specific areas of the body. (eyes, throat, solar plexus, groin, knee being the most obvious) practising such moves at full power and speed without padding could not be justified by them." Not sparring with heavy contact is the precise reason so many arts view their strikes as deadly, when it simply isn't so. It gives a false sense of security, which can lead to disaster in a real fight.

"yeah thats cause u only watch websites like b|_|llsh1do.com where truck driving americans post their not so high knowledge conserning martial arts. no offence taken to you but lots of people are missguided buy such stupid websites." Truck driving American here. Your broad generalizations are no different than Bullshido's, only they have some proof backing them up. "Many great chinese practitioners in general, I know don't participate in tournaments or competitions, since they have nothing to prove. They think, as well as I, that all styles are beutiful and unique in themselves. There is no need to glorify one art from another." The whole "we have nothing to prove" angle... Not testing against other styles fosters poor technique and complacency, as well as freezing up when someone outside of your system does decide to attack you. Stylistically, MT vs WC is a very poor matchup. Presuming both fighters are of equal conditioning, I would put the MT fighter over nine out of ten times. MT is devastatingly simple, and RING PROVEN. If a WC fighter attempted trapping the MT fighter, he would be in a clinch nightmare. Stay outside, and you WILL eat some leg kicks. -
