no reason in particular - it can be black. As far as I know, there are no female brown or black belts, so either would be awesome. jujutsu is the japanese term, and is the correct romanization. jujitsu was use alot in the 70's, but is technically incorrect. jiu jitsu was a seplling adopted by brazilians when bjj was developed. As opposed to "muay thai", you can use "thai boxing".

Question about Judo
SevenStar replied to dingyuan's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
yeah, you're right - i just checked a list. My first judo instructor trained jj and showed me the technique. The ones I am training with currently have not gone over it yet, so I was thinking it was a jj throw. According to the list I looked at though, it is a newer addition. It wasn't officially added to the judo curriculum until 1982. My current main judo coach is 75 and started training long before 1982, so it wasn't a recognized throw when he first started training - perhaps that's why he hasn't taught it... -
first off - how old are you? you seem young.

like we said - cardio. you have to burn off the fat that covers your abs. crunches alone will not do it, as crunches are not aerobic. anyonw who tells you they are really doesn't know what they are talking about. Crunches will make your abs hard, but you won't see them until you geet rid of the fat. that's where diet and cardio come into play.

I've never seen a tournament other than Pride - professional level mma fighting - that will allow you to kick a downed opponent. you just back up and the referee will allow them to get up. Shorin ryuu had a good piece of advice - keep control of them. For example, if you shoulder throw the guy, keep hold of his arm after you throw him. This will put you in better position to lock the arm if allowed/necessary. Chances are, the locking afterward will be illegal in your tourney, but it's still a good practice to have.

Question about Judo
SevenStar replied to dingyuan's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
the throws aren't quite the same, either. jujutsu has throws that judo does not, for example, the throw yama-arashi. -
Question about Judo
SevenStar replied to dingyuan's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
judo warrior is correct. judo was based on the tenshin shinyo ryu, kito ryu and fusen ryu schools of jujutsu. Aikido had nothing to do with it. -

yes, it's true. You won't miss them though. There is enough action going on with the throwing and groundwork. -
Favourite throw
SevenStar replied to Kreisi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
you think it's easy to execute? in competition? I've found that in competition, it's rather hard to pull off - almost impossible - unless you do it in an unorthodox manner, such as angling across them and attacking the opposite leg, as opposed to the normal straight forward variation. -

full contact? Isn't face contact prohibited in kyokushin?

abs are genetic. Not everyone gets a "six pack". Some people only get a four. genetics will dictate how much shows and what the shape will be.

dang - rich said pretty much what I said. lol, I shoulda read the other replies first.

for cardio, you want any activity that keeps your heart rate elevated for at least 20 mins. This can be capoeira, jumping rope, stairmaster, running, etc. It's your choice. The other big part of this issue is diet. You can do all of the cardio you want, you will still have probs keeping your abs visible if you aren't eating properly. crunches help your abs. As I states tho, that's not what makes them visible.
-
Technically, they are correct. all it takes to get abs is 7-15 mins a day. There are alot of people that have develped abs. What they aren't addressing is that you have to burn the fat off in order for anyone to see them. Getting a six pack is easy. Making it visible, however, is not.

Selecting a Second art
SevenStar replied to pericles's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
he already studies shotokan. he doesn't really need another striking art... -
4th degree in judo, brown belt in brazilian jiu jitsu, world champion thai kickboxer...

No he didn't. I know for a fact that some of his training came from an tian rong. However, most of his training was with the bejing wushu team. He's likely had many teachers, but he's never trained at the temple. those aren't styles. They are subsets of ninjutsu. taijutsu translates to "body arts" and makes up the hand to hand training of the ninja. ninpo in another name for ninjutsu. Pretty much all styles of ninjutsu are dead today except for the bujinkan and one other whose name escapes me at the moment. there is a bone breaking art called koppo jutsu. That's likely the art they are referring to. It's not made up.

Capoeira : MA or Dance?
SevenStar replied to MenteReligieuse's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't think the hand restraint thing is true, unless the chains on their hands were fairly long. look at them - they balance on their hands. In defensive postures, like the negativa position, they are guarding their face with one hand. With hand restraints, most of this would be impossible. That means that either: 1. the history most people hear is incorrect, or 2. capoeira has changed some over the years. They were slaves, and training was outlawed. It can be hard to hide a punch, but it was easy making the kicks, throws, elbows and knees fit with a dance theme. I think that's why you see such a lack of hand techniques. I'll ask my friend when I see him next week (he's a capoeira instructor) yeah, it can be devastating. -
Capoeira : MA or Dance?
SevenStar replied to MenteReligieuse's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
not true. it depennds on the venue. If it is among class mates, no, they won't hit eachother, just like in point fighting you aren't really hitting. In competition, they hit pretty hard, and the takedowns are full power. -
Karate v Boxing
SevenStar replied to shukokai2000's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
nah, what he said isn't true. karateka vs boxer - boxer all the way.
