  1. While in a TKD class, the CI picked me to help with a demonstration, so as to show the up and coming technique for all to practice. I was to stand in a ready position stance, while the CI knocked down my lead arm with a cresent kick so as to continue on, to open my body up for further techniques to my head and body. The cresent kick wasn't strong enough to knock down my lead arm, afer a few more tries without any success no matter how hard and determined the CI tried, it didn't work on me. Of course, I could have gone along with the idea, but chose not to. The CI chose another student, that went along with the charade. Has something similar to this ever happened to you? This video shows what can happen if the student doesn't go along with the CI's demonstration.
  2. We as martial artists, utilize the whipping motion in some techniques, this is not possible without relaxation and sudden moments of tension.
  3. Understanding hip anatomy to improve flexibility. Let us appreciate all the knowledge and time spent on this subject and not to let it all go to waste, just sitting in a book. How about bringing this information to life within our reach and putting it to good use in our martial art movements. By using a little imagination on what is happening while physically improving our flexibilities, especially in the hip area, will help not only improve range of motion in this area but also will help to reduce the risks involved while training, by understanding the anatomy and mechanisms behind the motions.
  4. Often asked by new students on how to touch your toes? This topic can be overlooked by those that do it almost without much thought or effort; this topic is most helpful to those that need a little advice in the right direction. At the doctor's office for a check up "Now touch your toes" he asks. With a look of surprise that it can be done, then the comment "Whatever you are doing, keep doing it" Would be a good time to make up a myth or a joke about my hamstrings being loose and flexible. But lets keep it real and educational from a professional.
  5. I talked to my GP about cracking knuckles and everything else on the body that cracks. He is so stiff and solid that he doesn't crack at all, anywhere. Most of the time, when I try to pick his brains, he usually answers my questions with "We are all different" Or he Google's some kind of medical encyclopedia to show me the answer. In the movie "Way of the Dragon" starring Bruce Lee, just before fighting Chuck Norris, he is cracking all the joints possible in his body. I honestly don't know if this is good or bad, cracking all the joints, but what I do know is, it most definitely primes the entire body for action or combat.
  6. This is why people that practice ballet put in the time, effort and dedication to become flexible; this all adds up to moving with grace, poise and beauty.
  7. Are you satisfied regarding your strategies and tactics from your chosen style? Very satisfied? Satisfied? Not very satisfied? Or strategies and tactics are not very important in my chosen style? How important is strategy and tactics to you?
  8. Good topic singularity6!Maybe a way to learn how to relax, is to understand the importance of why. Through tension and relaxation is how muscles work to make us move; similar to pedaling a bicycle as one foot is adding tension the other foot is relaxing, propelling the bicycle forward. Unnecessary tension inhibits blood flow, something like driving with the hand break on in a car or driving with one foot on the gas pedal and the other on the breaks. Relaxed muscles move more freely than tense ones, improving ease of movement and range of motion. Relaxed muscles can reach further and move faster, while tense muscles are slower and cannot reach as far. Training muscles to relax helps to make them more pliable and flexible, which in turn helps to reduce injuries and improving movements that can be potentially painful. It is far easier to tense a muscle than to relax it. Therefore minimize unnecessary tension in all of your body movements and actions. Holding a pen too tightly when writing will cause a cramp in that hand, only use the necessary amount of tension to get the job done. Attitude and thoughts can cause unnecessary tension, changing thoughts that cause tension to thoughts that promote calmness and harmony are recommended. Practice counting backwards from one to ten, with every number breath calmer and slower, with practice it becomes easier to relax. The more relaxed you learn to become the more tense the people around you will seem to be. Take an inventory of the traumas and resentments, hatred, and anger that can accumulate during one's life and learn to let them go. Foods that promote relaxation as opposed to foods that can cause anxiety, need to be considered. Overall lifestyle contributes to most unnecessary tension in the body, listening to what your body is asking for and it's needs is important. Learning to live a happy and productive life doesn't happen over night, nothing of any worth is easy, so while you are waiting for it to happen, practice smiling and laughing, these are natural tension release valves. If you need a massage it's too late! If you need any type of remedy to relieve tension, then it is too late. Learn to catch and release tension right away, similar to fishing, this way you are not accumulating unnecessary rigidity.

  15. While we are running with pigs. Chinese consider pigs to be connected with the sign of water? The reason for this, is because of pigs having a level physique and water has a leveling nature to it also. Pigs movements are also similar to water in regards to meandering and searching. A friend of mine on a business trip to China stayed in a village. The people there were vegetarians, but they did raise pigs for selling purposes. My friend that isn't a vegetarian asked them if it would be possible to have a roast pork dinner? They said "Sure no problem" so that evening he had his roast pork dinner. The next day he noticed that one of the pigs looked different than the rest; due to missing one of its legs. (Talk about a guilt trip)
  16. When wanting to use the F word, I replace it with the word "Frankenstein" this usually takes the seriousness out and puts a laugh in its place. All profanity really is, is not being able to find the right word in the moment.
  17. I understand that MMA isn't a style it is a set of rules, yet younger generation fighters are training as if was a style! Perhaps the new trend is to develop styles based on rules, such as what is happening with MMA? An MMA style of fighting, doing away with any type of traditional martial art affiliations altogether? Will they give out MMA colored belts, do you wonder?
  18. As an adult profanity isn't an issue for me, but those that use it in their videos are not considering younger children might be present. There are many interesting videos worth watching but once the language turns vulgar it looses validity in my eyes. By not using any profanity their audience would be much larger and they would become more popular. Martial artists are known to be tough, using profanity isn't going to make them any more tougher. I don't recall hearing anyone wearing a GI and describing their techniques with added foul language; I have the up most respect for all of them in this regard. When the CI uses foul language, this surely cannot be setting a good example to students. Are these valid points or is vulgar language something marital artists are starting to adopt and incorporate to seem intimidating?
  19. I think you just came up with the next evolution of Bacon. Bacon^2. Did you know that pigs do not make love, they make bacon!
  20. I've known plenty of inner-city folk with dreads. They use shampoo just like everyone else. None residue shampoo is preferable, if dreds are not cared for adequately the hair can grow mold.
  21. Is this too absurd to ponder, if a vegetarian would eat a Venus Flytrap? As a carnivore, would you feed a pig bacon? I new a vegetarian that tried to make the pet cat vegetarian also, the cat died of of course from meow-nutrition. Love the meow-nutrition joke. You just added to my repertoire. Thanks. Just to be fair, my daughter is either a vegetarian or a vegan, not sure which and can't tell you the difference between them. I have no problem with her being which ever one she is but do like to joke with her about it. To each their own. Me personally... I could not imagine a life of eating nothing but veggies. And yes I would feed a pig bacon if I thought it would make it taste better. As for the Venus Flytrap goes, I think that would still be considered vegetarian because it's classified as a plant. But I get where you were going with it because it eats meat. I have been known to make a sandwich of fried bologna, ham, bacon, pulled pork and getta (a German food made from pin oats and pork, more or less a sausage). And no I did not put any lettuce or any other veggie on the sandwich. But did place a nice piece of cheese on there with a little mayo. Yum. I don't know what you would call that but I think that would be considered a Carnivore. Definitely not rabbit food. I made up the meow-nutrition joke, on the spot here on KF.com just for you MatsuShinshii.(The joke was inspired by a real event) one of my art teachers was a vegetarian, she tried to make her cat one also, sadly it died, the vet told her that the cat died of malnutrition. The art teacher was a small and very skinny, with premature grey hair. She wasn't playing with a full deck. We all thought that she was a very good art teacher, till she passed the three momth test period. She changed and would really upset some of the students to no end. I complained about her to the head of the department, which fell on deaf ears. One of the students was so upset with her, that he brought a rifle and threatened to kill her. He turned the rifle on himself and killed himself in front of her. The press made her out to be a victim and the school gave her some time off to recover, from the ordeal. After that episode, I cannot help to think that vegetarians are missing something in their diet that interferes with their reasoning.

  23. At a crowded party, I witnessed one person giving another person a light for his cigarette, a young man with his back to them, flicked his hair back and it caught on fire. There are other issues concerning long hair due to insects and hygiene. Those that have an original Rastafarian hair style, is usually cleaned in the ocean, something inner city dwellers don't have readily available to them.
