Ok - how's this for starters
Blade13 replied to YODA's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Great point YODA. I think it is just the reputation Bruce Lee has. People want to be him. He is seen, in the western world, as one of the greatest fighters ever. When they say that they love JKD, they only say that they love the fact that Bruce Lee could beat the crap out of almost anyone. Thats all there is to it. Most people see JKD as an actual fighting style and nothing more. At a tournament I went to, I was having a chat with a man twice my age (I was 14 at the time) and JKD was mentioned in the conversation. He went on for a few minutes trying to sound like an expert, and I had to spend a few extra minutes correcting him. He even asked me if I was a black belt in JKD!! Bruce Lee has that legendary feel about him, and people envy it, so they go on and on about false knowledge of JKD in hopes that they will be compared to him. Fortunately, JKD is becoming slightly more main stream now, so there is a declining numbers of (for lack of a better term) posers out there. Still, there will always be Bruce Lee wannabes out there. I find it quite funny that they try to be more like Bruce Lee by doing the exact opposite of what he did. They copy, Bruce created. -
Martial Art Music
Blade13 replied to GoldDragon's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
LINKIN PARK!!!! I love Linkin Park. Nothin gets me pumped like "By Myself" or "A Place For My Head" When Im practicing a form, I listen to Blink 182 "The Rock Show". Other than that capoeira music is what I go for. I love the sound of the berimbau while I practice. As you can already tell, Id probably be voted "Most Likely To Show Up At The US Open With Blue Hair" In fact, I was going to last summer, but my mom cancelled the trip. That sucked.... -

Thanks! -
Thanks for all the advice. I am meeting the sensei on tuesday night to ask these questions. I went to watch one of his classes, but he was too busy to talk to me that night. For some reason, he is freaking out and wanting me to join this class. He said that because of my prior training, that I will probably be in the advanced class in about 2 months. Does this sound like a McDojo?

Thanks guys. It really means a lot to find people who believe me. I understand what u mean about the net and not takin s*** from people. Im the same way, but someday, some times, we all hafta trust someone without knowing exactly why. I dunno if this is a good place to say this, but...one of the practices I invented was "drunken bag boxing" as I nicknamed it. Just take a plastic grocery bag and throw it into the air, beat the crap out of it using as many moves as u can. Try to keep it in the air. You look drunk when you do this (hence the name), but it REALLY helps build speed and aiming ur blows against a moving target. Hit it as fast as possible. Has anyone else ever done this? If not, give me ur thoughts on it. It would be cool to know I actually made up something useful. -
Does Anyone Have Any Idea What This Means??
Blade13 replied to Blade13's topic in Health and Fitness
I didnt begin when I was two. I started learning military styles when I was 3. I turn 15 in about a month, so I just rounded up instead of saying 11 11/12 years. MY dad was a marine and my mom is a state trooper, but has been a police officer, member of the riot squad, etc. My grandfather was in the air force. My cousin was in the US Army Special Forces. I began Tae Kwon Do at the age of 6, but I had to quit after I got my first belt because we moved. I spent all of my time working out and teaching myself. I had friends who knew Tae Kwon Do, and I beat them easily, so I decided that style was not for me. I mean no offense to anyone who does Tae Kwon Do. After all, at this age, I was about 8, and so were my friends, so they were obviously trained at a McDojo. I later began to watch a TON of martial arts movies and practice each and every move I saw until I could do it perfectly. Then I got friends together and we would spar. My friend's uncle is a sensei, so he is quite good, and he is my sparring partner. I began Jeet Kune Do about 2 years ago. I read, memorized, and trained in everything he said to do in his books. That is the closest thing you can find to real JKD. Unfortunately, no one knows the true Jeet Kune Do, because Bruce Lee kept some of the JKD secrets to himself because of people using his name to advertise their dojo even if he had never heard of these people. I know most people dont believe that someone who is self-taught can be any good, but I have never lost a fight in my life. I am going to begin taking a Kotosuha Shi-to Ryu class soon. My mom knows the sensei and for some reason, he REALLY wants me to be there. I spend hours every day training. Trust me, I DO take the martial arts seriously. I live for it. Yeah, my training is unorthodox, but VERY effective, as most of the best styles were when they were first created. Im not a black belt. I might be as good as one, but Im not sure. I never took the test. I cant bench 1440 on a normal basis. I can only bench 230. Ive never tried benchpressing anything while Im having one of these...."outbursts" because they can burn out at any time and well....I would....DIE. Ive got witnesses to this and if you dont believe me then Im sorry, but its the truth. _________________ *To HELL with opportunity! I want these people to pay and pay DEARLY. I wish that they would lower the army enlistment age. I wanna go help! I mean....they only need to lower the age about 3 years or so...hehe. Is that too much to ask? lol As you can probably tell by my previous post, I am ALL FOR those wonderful tools of war known as....nukes. When it absolutely, positively, hasta be gone by tomorrow. - Nuclear Weapons Is anyone in here in the military, or a veteran of? If you are, then u probably understand my views. My dad was marine, grandfather was in the air force, my cousin was in the special forces, so I was raised around a lot of military opinions. If my views have offended anyone then....sorry, but my views arent gonna change. (I hate to leave a REALLY long message, so I left two semi-long ones. haha)

I just have 2 things to say about this. 1. There is no problem that can not be solved with high explosives. 2. The roman empire did not become powerful and feared by all by having meetings and doing paperwork. They did this by destroying all of their enemies. _________________ *To HELL with opportunity! Eh, if it was scrapped or not....I still dont wanna join the military. Im not gonna sign up to be a bullet sponge! Havoc, I am 14. Why do you ask? Ive had this "problem" since I was about.....12 or so. -
Thanks for your advice. I will try Shotokan. If it works for me, then great! If it doesnt, then only 20 bucks was lost! (The classes are 20 bucks per month) I wasnt offended, so dont apologize. It just made me realize the flaws in my original message. It was my fault. Sorry. Thanks for being nice though. That rare in todays world. If you ever need anything, just contact me. I will try to help. The same goes for anyone who needs help in anything. Im not sure why anyone would need me, but if ya do...then ask. Thanks!

I just noticed that my original message has many flaws. Its too easily misunderstood. I dont want to learn a million martial arts. I want to find the best one for me and stay with it. Military styles are just what I have had the most access to. I dont take any martial arts classes at the moment. I want to though. Thats why I asked if Shotokan Karate was worth learning. I dont want to waste time with a style if it is worthless in a fight. Videos are the only way that I can learn other forms of martial arts at the moment. Thats why I asked for advice on if they work or not. I dont want to waste money on something that has no benefits. I agree with you though. I dont believe in learning a ton of styles either. I just want actual martial arts, instead of the military forms, which are inferior to MANY martial arts and lack the mentality. I dont want martial arts just for the fighting skill (although its a good part), I also want the mental enlightenment. Do you understand me now? Again, Im sorry that the first message was written so poorly.

I did not master Jeet Kune Do or Tae Kwon Do! I never said I did. For one thing, Jeet Kune Do is impossible to master because it is the formless form! In 12 years the military styles can be learned with no problem. I was raised around them and my family taught me. That is how I learned all of them. Living with your instructor is an advantage. I learned Tae Kwon Do, but did not master it. I decided that it was not the right form for me because I could already beat black belts when I was only at yellow. Besides that, my family moved away from that town, so I had to quit. Im sorry If I gave the impression that I wanted you to think I mastered any martial art. This was just a case of misunderstanding and Im sorry for it. Thanks for the reply though!

I live in south georgia and good martial arts are hard to come by. The only things I can find is Tae Kwon Do and one Shotokan Karate. Is Shotokan worth taking? I learned Police, Georgia State Patrol, US Army Special Forces, Air Force, Riot Squad, Marine, Tae Kwon Do, and Jeet Kune Do so far. The military styles were taught to me by family. Jeet Kune Do....from from books written by Bruce Lee. The only way I can think of to learn new styles is by instructional video. Is this a good way to learn and actually become as good as someone who took classes? Im 14, so I cant drive to go to classes. This is why I need videos. Also, my mom is a state trooper, and because of the hours she works, she cant drive me to all of my classes either. I havent seen my dad since 1996, so gettin a ride from his is out of the question. Ok, so are videos good or not? Please help. Thanks

Well, because of how many enemies Bruce made, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he was murdered. I dont mean by ninjas, evil spirits or anything of the such. Someone would have easily used a dim mak pressure point to kill him. Who is to say that one of the other actors in Game Of Death wasnt trained in dim mak? In a fight scene, they could easily apply the proper pressure. Some of those points will cause the brain to swell and the person will die in under a month with no evidence left behind. Pretty nifty huh? That would make people think that it was merely the asprin that did it and nothing more. He was one of the healthiest people I ever saw, so I doubt it was asprin. Notice that I said doubt, which means I still believe in the possibility. No matter how, and if, he died....WE NEED HIM BACK!

ts757, that is the BEST explanation of my problem I have ever heard! It even confused my doctor! haha Thanks for ur help. Im greatly impressed by your knowledge. The military actually tries to create "humans" with the levels of adrenaline and endorphins that I already have? Thats freaky! Hey, I should go join the military! woo hoo! *sarcasm* The military life just isnt my style. I like this gift/curse at times, it proves to be useful if anyone ever jumps me. haha Anyway, great message and thanks for ur help. -

Lets just hope I dont break anyones head off in my first tournament in october. haha -

Ya know, actually, my ancestors were vikings. haha Thanks for your help. It doesnt happen often, but it makes most people back down from a fight with me. Ugh, Ive been a martial artist for 12 years and never get to use it, lol. j/k Anyway, my first tournament is in October, so...yeah, lol. The difference between my problem and berserkers is that i can control it. I wont run blindly into battle. I still have all thoughts and I think on a higher level. I see things more clearly and my senses all get better. I dunno if this means anything, but I seem to have some strange connection w/ animals. They all love me for some reason. *shrugs* Well, thanks for the message. See ya! _________________ *To HELL with opportunity! Hey. Thanks for takin the time to read my message. Ive got a strange health condition. Im not sure what causes it though. When Im REALLY angry, weird stuff happens to me... Heres a list: 1.The white part of my eyes turns almost COMPLETELY blood red 2.The brown part turns black. 3.My muscles flare up. 4.My shoulder blades poke out. 5.My senses are hightened. 6.Strength increases by 6x 7.I feel no pain None of this is exaggeration or a lie in any way. Ive got witnesses. My friends and I think that it is because of an abnormally high adrenaline level or something like that. I did research on adrenaline, but all of the info said that it never does stuff this intense. So im confused. Does anyone else do this or know what causes it? And is it deadly? Is it a good thing or bad? Im hoping for good. When I get that way, I have total control and I dont go around killing people. Its rare when it happens...but still freaky when it does. I can go from in a matter of about 5-10 seconds. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Tournaments
Blade13 replied to Blade13's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I wish people weren't so afraid. If they learn martial arts, they expect to use them at one point or another. In a street fight, they aren't gonna stop just because you accidentally tripped or something. If you try to defend yourself against gang members the same way you would fight in a tournament, then you will have an unhappy ending. :kaioken:  -
My first tournament is on October 6th. I was looking over the rules and I noticed that it said that it used full contact rules and light contact to the head. We must wear punches, kicks, headgear, and chest guards. We are only allowed to hit above the waist and can't hit limbs. Throws aren't legal. Neither are attacks to the throat, eyes, back, and neck. The main reason most people learn martial arts is defense. If the contact can't be all that we can make it, then it isnt a true test of skill. Tournaments are getting to be nothing but a test of speed. Are there any REAL full contact tournaments left out there? Even the UFC is losing the reality of combat sports. I realize that speed is a very important attribute, but in a fight, speed without power is nothing. Imagine a rabbit against a gorilla. The gorilla is slower, but more powerful. The rabbit is fast, but weak. If they had a battle, the gorilla would surely win. By the way, if anyone wants to compete in this tournament, its in Tifton, GA on Oct. 6th. Call Al Moore at 229-382-9897 for more info. Or just contact me.

I used to have trouble with jumping. Here are the drills that helped me. tuck jumps-stand in place, jump, and tuck your legs. get them as close to your chest as possible. repeat about 25 times squat jumps-dont squat all the way down (its hard on the knees), but just squat a little, then jump up as high as u can. repeat about 25 times deep stance squat jumps-do #2, but in a riding stance. (like your riding a horse). repeat 25 times squat jumps with one leg back-put your right leg back then squat and jump like in #2. then swich feet. repeat 25 times alternating foot squat jumps-do #4 but alternate feet. wushu jump-wushu kicks are great for improving vertical leap. this is a warm up they use. take a few steps then jump off your right foot as high as u can. at the peak of your jump kick your left foot down. repeat with the opposite foot. calf raises-stand on the edge of something or on the floor, then push up so your on your toes. very common exercise. split kicks-if u get bored with the above exercises then do split kicks. they add some fun and they are effective. do them in place for more of a workout siccisor kicks-another fun aternative. developes jumping power of one leg at a time rather than both. acrobatics-just ding basic acrobatics is good for developing height. do back tucks and front tucks enough and your height will increase. be careful though. with all of the above drills, u should do 25 of each to start with, then work your way up. never just bounce. each jump should be as high as possible. if u do these your vertical leap should be enough to make u fly. Hope that helped!
