  1. Well it might something Soke Hatsumi said or wrote and my teacher said something along the same lines. I was simply paraphrasing what my teacher said once. He is a great teacher and also the product of a great teacher as well.
  2. He's about 35, his name is Tim Brown. Why do you ask?
  3. Sure. I was kind of paraphrasing something my teacher said to us once. It made sense to me.
  4. The best street fight I ever had was the one I talked my way out of.
  5. The best style of streetfighting is the one that focuses on the realities of a street confrontation. The best MA is one that will teach that it's more important to survive than to win. There is no winning in a street fight. When you have the philosophy of winning as your primary goal in a confrontation you will experience defeat many times and never understand that ego has no place in combat.
  6. I just recently bought a sword from China on Ebay and he claimed it was from the Meiji period. It looks pretty convincing and I didn't spend much on it, because I sniped it. It looks really nice and old but the blade doesn't seem right. There are certain things that don't add up. If anyone here knows an expert that can help me I would appreciate it very much. Also, does anyone know of a good sword restorer/ polisher in the LA area? Thanks.
  7. It all depends what you are interested in and don't compare yourself to others. You can be very effective at an art that you enjoy and understand. You don't have to be something you are not. Please send me a private message I would love to share Budo Taijutsu with you I think for someone like you, it would compliment you quite well.
  8. Fight dirty and do the unexpected. That is the way to winning a street fight. MA are only effective if you understand the objective. Kata will not save you, technique will not save you, only your body reacting naturally will save you. Let your body do what it does and ignore the mind.
  9. Best way to end a fight quick is to throw the person to the ground and stomp his face into the ground. That usuallly works.
  10. The best street fight I've ever been in was against 7 guys. The first guy attacked and I evaded his punch and kicked him in the bladder and straight punched him in the septum. I ran toward the others then around them, because I was scared. I turned around and faced them all and challenged them. They slowly backed down and I was able to find my friend and get the hell out of there. I thank my Kung Fu Sansoo training for that incident and I swear by that art as being very street effective. Thanks for listening. I have much respect for anyone that is a student of Budo. Arigato Gozaimas.
  11. A smart fighter only goes to the ground when he has no other choice and knows what to do when he's there. Fighting one on one in a controlled environment is a duel. Fighting on the street is survival. The will to survive is much stronger than the will to win.
  12. Yeah the Ninja didn't follow the so called Bushido code, and that made them bad. Ha ha ha.
  13. The Best Martial Art is subjective so I would say the best MA is the one that you enjoy and fulfills your personal needs the most. That's all that really matters anyway. You won't be good at MA's if you are not enjoying yourself.
  14. Explosive power can be used against you with the wrong person. Each fight is different in the real world. The ring is a little more predictable.
  15. White Warlock I know you are trying to be funny, but I don't get it.
  16. They are these acrobatic performers that do really incredible stuff, but they do it really slow and precise. For example, they go into a hand stand in slow motion and then lift one arm and put it by their side without adjusting or wobbling. It crazy how strong these people are.
  17. Displace, displace, displace. That's the key. Attack the balance and let gravity do the work.
  18. What kind of exercises do those Cicus de Sole guys do? That's the kind of strength I wish I had. I would rule the earth with that kind of strength.
  19. Being bulky and being strong are two different things. Endurance has more to do with cardiovascular endurance than muscle edurance. If you can't get enough oxygen to the muscles then how strong you are doesn't really matter. Learn to strike using your body structure rather than using muscle power, you will last longer in a fight. Preserve your muscle strength for when you really need it.
  20. That 90% thing is a bunch of bull.
  21. That's why you don't trade punches with someone, don't play his game. Endurance is more important than brute strength when you are talking about survival. If you fight smart you can tire out a big guy and have your way with him.
  22. That's way you train the mind and the body. I think many modern MA's disregard the philosophical aspects of MA's, but they have a specific purpose. Mind over matter is what it's all about. The reason a more experienced fighter is so dangerous is because he keeps it together in a fight and keeps calm. There are people who can do this and people who cannot. Police officers, soldiers, warriors, fireman, etc. These people have the ability to think and react in intense situations. So I agree and disagree with SevenStar's comment about adrenaline pump theory. It all depends upon the person and it is not an absolute for everyone. So some people can remember more in a fight than others, muscle memory or not. Some people have been in really hairy situations and if a situation doesn't reach the intensity of that previous circumstance the adrenaline pump will have little effect on this type of person. Train the mind and the body will follow.
  23. Does any know or have any information on polishing a katana? Any links, books or personal info on the subject would be appreciated.
