  1. Just remember, it was a demonstration but it was also a competition. So cheaters would have most likely been thrown out. Also, im not sure of the name but at the same competition some kid did a black flip kick breaking a board in the air. I have only seen that a few times and it wasnt trying to break a board it was just showing skill. (and in street fighter the movie) To me it looks pretty hard not sure how you all feel about it though.
  2. What styles do you *know* or *think* the military trains in? I think this would be a good debating topic considering the military ''uses the most deadliest force''
  3. Headaches!! This is single handidly the most confusing project. So many dead ends and things that dont work hehe.. I would like to thank everyone helping me on this. This really isnt easy... once again thank you all!!!
  4. Well the owner of the dojo was asian and slightly older. but the main trainer was, or i was lead to believe, american. I remember seeing a tattoo behind his right ear and a tattoo on the inside of his left arm. the one on the left arm had something to do with a sword and some writing. maybe they worked for the gov't and tried to induct the black belts into the military or other gov't agencys but seriously if you read my other posts about the dojo and the way we trained it sorta seems like a cult or something
  5. I grew up fighting. Basiclly most of my martial arts was ineffective. I mean most people fight without form. They not know how to fight so they improvise and swing away, throw rocks, bite, etc... You have to fight on the street in order to learn how to fight without using strictly martial arts. You have to incorperate both. Personally, I tried to use tang soo do and got my ass kicked. Then I start to fight a little dirty and incorperated it with tang soo do and I came out on top. Until I furtherd my training. Now I incorperate everything I know. Though, if you dont have to fight then dont. Its not worth it. For some people its the only thing they can do, or the only thing they know. It isnt worth it. I have a post on here explaining how my friend died. I used to fight weekly sometimes daily. Not a way to live. Now I only fight when needed. But if you think your superman read my other post and I hope none of this happens to you.
  6. I hear about this, I have seen it, is it right? Is it true? I remember at my old Martial Arts School people from the "Gov't" would stop in and collect the names of students that recived a blackbelt and they would have to sign some paper stating they were a lethal weapon and could not fight anywhere outside of the ring, mat or sanctioned event (being tournys or practicing in a dojo) If you did fight it would have to be total self defense with reasonable use of force. Meaning some guy swings and you put him in an armbar you cant brek his arm but you can try to talk him out of fighting etc..... Anyone else have incounters as these?
  7. Does the guy that teach that have glasses, or dark hair? Hehe Sounds like the school I went to before. It was traditional Tang Soo Do, then the next thing I know I was in a "tourny club" and I was learning ''Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, American Karate, PressurePoints, Grappling, meditation'' and other weird things like, ''suspended animation, way of the lightfoot,'' and other mind playing things.. I dont really know why he taught us the last part but when I think of it now, it kind of reminds me of a cult. I met up with 6/10 students from that class including myself at the mall about a month ago and we all have similar problems. We all now have a mix of bi-polar, anixety, depression etc... and the 4 that didnt show 2 are in juveniall dentention center, 1 is in jail, 1 is in rehab.. the 2 in juvy charged with stealing-disorderly conduct-stalking-assault, the one is in jail for murder, and the one in rehab was hooked on cocain. freaky? Yes very. I have a post on here a while back that explains the things we went through if you look it up. But I wouldnt trust it unless you check it out more..
  8. I know there is math behind it, or theory on everything hehe.. I just am not sure where to find it. I am not going to go buy a book just for school work though. I tried finding stuff online but I am havign bad luck and not seeing anything. I would love to find all the interesting information about martial arts to share with my class (not to mention it will give me a good grade). I have taken martialarts for a while though my teacher never taught any theory. Just told us what to do and combined different arts together etc... So I dont know what to search for..?.?
  9. I said the same thing I was thinking about joint locks, pressurepoints, chokes. But not sure if thats the way to go, or if theres more I can do. AHH!!!! I dont know what to do...
  10. Hey everyone, Im back again. Took a short leave from the computer world. I have to research how math is involved in martial arts. My presentation has to be 15 minutes long, and has to keep everyones attention. There anyone who can help me out with this?
  11. I hear many people saying anything under 8 years old is to early to start Martial Arts. I have a question, WHY!? Children studying Shaolin in Asia are 3. As long as you show right from wrong and are a good parent then you should have no worries, espically if you studied/study Martial Arts you know what to look for and should know right from wrong. I started when I was 5, I made some bad decsions and did street fight, though my parents did not know what to look for, and I mostly was independent for most of my life. I now know what to look for so when i have children I will not haver to worry about anything. I mean they maybe to young to understand the philosphy of the Art, though it will grow with them. Am I right or wrong? Give me your opinion though, I think for the most part I am right.
  12. *rubs his eyes* i think i need glasses i didnt see the korean forums hehe sorry
  13. Dont quit it if you love it. Just find another Art that doesnt seem like you will kill yourself trying to study it.
  14. This is a broad topic, for there are many reasons why people fight, and you have to think of the situation. I grew up in a decent neighborhood but stupid me decided to turn to the streets. We fought for every reason ranging from, respect, bad mood, being looked at wrong, people saying 'things' to us etc.. We were basiclly the hoodlums, gangs etc... People have things wrong with them, alcoholism, chemical inbalances with the brain (bi-polar), people do to many drugs and it just turns people into sauvages and well they fight.. Its not the answer, but it will never be stopped. People just have to try an calm down a bit, were in bad times now.. Most people arm themselves with weapons (guns etc..) normal everyday fist fights turn into gang wars, 10 on 1 or someone getting shot.. Its not worth to fight outside the dojo or tournys anymore. I learned the hardway. Bestfriend of mine died 3 months ago in a street fight. It was aranged and people placed money on it, he started to win and got jumped by 5 more people and then a blackbelt studying some sort of art ground fighting broke his neck and killed him on the spot. I never fought for money, I fought for stupid reasons and I now see that. Though a tragic had to widen my eyes..
  15. I hear every school has there own system of belts and we all know certain belt colors mean you are a 'certain rank'. I talked to a friend and his belt system was different then mine and he also studied Tang Soo Do.. My School: White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple, Blue, Red, Brown, Black Every belt needed to have 3 stripes to progress. Friends school: White, Yellow, Green, Purple, Blue, Brown, Red, Black Only certain belts needed certain amount of stripes to progress. This doesnt seem right to me. Anyone know if there is a set system?
  16. very true.. I thank you all for your help, you all have been very kind .. now to just find that school
  17. Try meditating friend. Let your mind clear and watch the pain flow from your toes out and feel the pain dissolve It might not happen, or might take awhile depending on how long you have been meditating. But something better then none, aye?
  18. KarateKid1975 I thought I saw it on espn as well I also thought I heard, chi, ki, qi something. He focused on one of the bricks in the row and hit the top and then moved the bricks off and that one was broken... I mean there wasnt 40 bricks laying there but it was enough to look amazing.. hehe just making sure im not nuts
  19. Many martial artists have problems. Some are blind, some are in wheelchairs, and well you have ingrown nails. Just have to find a way to overcome your problem and succeed at what you would like to do. I am sure if you talk to the instructor about your problem he would have no problem letting you wear kung-fu or wrestling shoes till you have your surgery. But thats just one way to go. If the pain gets worse, try meditating it may help the pain just my 2 cents
  20. Yea, I would be starting over again just because I am unsure of the kata.. I really wouldnt like to just start over like that again.. I find the basics of TSD and TKD boring.. I cannot say anything about hapkido or kuk sool won because I know nothing about the arts.
  21. I have taken some TKD and I dont find it to my liking.. Ninjitsu just seemed exotic and not everyone takes it.. something fun though I am interested in, pressurepoints, chokes
  22. I seen movies (and espn2) where there is a stack of bricks and someone can pick one out and the martial artist will break only that brick from the whole stack. I posted it here in the Internal Arts because I feel it would be from an internal art that this would come from.. (and if i remember somone did something similiar to this on espn2 and i think he said it was his chi)
  23. Which Auto Parts Store if you dont mind me asking. I worked for one that has many stores in NJ Dont feel bad I used to get made fun of all the time for being in martial arts, but when it came down to it everyone was running to me asking for help because someone wanted to beat them up and I just told them they shouldnt have been making fun of me for it. Actully about a month ago I had a little Demonstration in my school in the main lobby A friend of mine and I brought in, swords, nunchuku, throwing knives, shurukins
  24. Ouch, that hurt a bit. I ment I would like to get my black belt in that art. The problem is, my school is not there anymore. Another problem was, when I inducted the tournament class we 'learned a variety of styles' and 'studied under meditation'. He did not fully say okay you hit your oppentent's pressure point on this spot (gb-26) at this type of angle, with this much force and thats a style. He said this is a 'weakspot' or a 'pressurepoint' and said hit it like this in this spot. What I am getting at is he didnt tell us the styles we learned from so I am not sure if I would be useing tang soo do, jujitsu, tae kwon do etc... When I went into the tournament class we did not learn kata either, we progressed and got belts when we were able to Demonstrate what we learned affectively. See where I am getting at? My Martial Arts knowledge feels fake because its all sorts of messed up and my school isnt even there anymore to go back and see what they did.. I ask around about it but its like it wasnt even there no one knows what I am talking about..
  25. Not sure if I understand right, but I took tang soo do and it was at a place called, The Korean Karate Academy. Another question I see you spelling it as 'Tong So Do' rather then 'Tang So Do' There a difference? The place I studied at spelled it like I did.. Hehe Maybe they are wrong..
