Van Damme Movies
SoulAssassin replied to cymry's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
only thing I have to say is rofl -
I held back for awhile. Then my instuctor made me spar 5 of the ladies at once. Needless to say holding back got me no where then. So the next time I sparred I delievered a solid side kick -which was parried- followed by a round kick which knocked the lady for a loop and I felt bad. I hurried to make sure she was okay and got a punch -down there- so I am back where I started. 'To hold back, or not to hold back, that is the question!'

Interesting, another Cop story..
SoulAssassin replied to SoulAssassin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
No he was retired. He was working as a security person in my school. He knew my friend and I did martial arts. One day we had a bad temper and he told us the story and how we should watch ourselves with it. Funny though we did a show in school and we brought in swords, nunchuku, shurkins etc.. and he was the one who 'had to escort us around'. -
Anyone know where to get good meditation music online? I do not want chants, just instrumentels. Thanks!

Pressure Points or Submission techneques
SoulAssassin replied to CPU's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Best thing to do is take a class, if you try to learn by reading, or looking at pictures online it does nothing for you. When you have a instructor showing you how and telling you how it works then proceeding to try them you will learn. Remember, chokes/pressurepoints can cause serious injury or death. Sometimes the online world of learning does not stress that enough. -
Not sure if you live the US but I know you have to watch where you put them because many places wont hire you if the tattoo shows. now if you get away with covering it and you have been working at the place for a decent amount of time then decide to bust out the artwork then they cant do nothing. just get it where you want, but watch out on what career your heading into..

Trained under a personal instructors for about 6 years 11 years - 2nd dan - TSD

I used to have to do them all the time in my tang soo do class so I am not fully against them. I know that you can train knuckles like in iron palm where you hit various things that would tend to hurt, but strengthens them. I was just giving the opinion or 'knowledge' of my personal trainer. If hes 100% wrong then I guess I better find a new one.

Does anyone else feel the same?
SoulAssassin replied to SoulAssassin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Good responses I was just wondering what everyone thought because usually what I hear from people is I will just kick the person in the groin, or I will break their nose. I just laugh because if you go in thinking that, then its all your going to be focused on and might be your main target. If everything happens naturally then you might defend more and get a better shot at a certain area, rather then being extremly offensive and going straight for it. The brick thing is true, I have had bricks thrown at me and metal poles and more but so I just had to have it in there. -

Registering as a Lethal weapon
SoulAssassin replied to SoulAssassin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
That was my thought, I agree fully. -
Not flaming anything, but in my own opinion if someone studies how to effectively use the pressurepoints or weakspots then they are going to know where they are and how to strike them like spreading butter on a roll. I know this because my old instructor used to take like 8 of us on at a time. He used to just poke some of us or strike us quickly without much power and we would all drop. EDIT: Now that I remembered I went to a shaolin school about 30min from my house and the instructor Master Noorzad I think his name was said theres a spot on the body somewhere in the vicinity

Ever had to use your MA in a real sreet fight
SoulAssassin replied to a topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I know this post says ever had to use MA in a SF but my friend(s) and I did martial arts and abused it never thought about it, our trainer was a lethal freak. I had a post I had on a thread awhile ago. Instead of posting all my streetfighting stories I figure I will let this out again. I dont need to be flamed but I used to fight like kids used to collect baseball cards. If you want stories I got them, just ask heh. -

Theres alot of posts on 'what would you do in a streetfight? eye gouges, groin kicks, nose breaking, throat shots etc..' I am just wondering if everyone actully plans to actully go straight up and do something like this, or do they handle it other ways? Personally I basiclly dont go thinking im going to kick the person in the groin. Everything happens naturally. You train to be able to counter/strike punches/kicks etc.. So when someone throws a left hook wouldnt know you wether to block, grab/throw, kick, parry? I have replied to a post on here saying sometimes Martial Arts doesnt work in street fighting because how are you supposed to stop someone from throwing bricks or rocks at your or just swinging like a mad man? Lets just say the person basiclly goes toe to toe with you.. How would you respond?

what would you do in this situation...
SoulAssassin replied to aznkarateboi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If he lowered his head down, wouldnt you just stick your hand out put it on his head and hold him back? Possibly try to reach down to the side his mouth for a fishhook depending on the angle. -
There are many things you can try. I used to do Knuckle-ups but at the gym I goto my personal trainer said its bad for you (not sure) You could try hitting a heavy bag, hitting a sandba etc.. Remember the world wasnt built in a day. Gradually move up hitting softer things to harder things. You can also try https://www.google.com and look up ironpalm training. You do not have to train your palm, you can train fingers, knuckles and other things. EDIT: Also it could depend how you are punching. Wrist angles, where your thumb is placed, angle of your punch etc..

Walk away rather then argue; Argue rather then harm; Harm rather then maim; Maim rather then kill; Kill only as a last resort"

Might be late to respond to but I just came back after a few months. That wasnt me in the fight, though I have had similar experences I see that the post is no longer here. I will try and talk to the mod who closed the post because of the story, so I can share it again. If not I will repost it As I said Martial Arts does not always work, have to fight on the street to learn to fight on the street. Do not get me wrong I bet there are plenty of styles that you can use, but if they swing wildly its going to be hard to pull off anything.
