  1. i usually try stretching when i get up, then at night.. sometimes i stretch for 30min or an hour.. dont cut yourself short though hold a stretch for 20 seconds or so..
  2. I have to agree. I took a long lay-off between training. About 10 years (long story), but I still stretched everyday. Once I began training again, my form came back relatively quickly, but because I had stretched all along, I did not lose any height on my kicks. And, once I began to get my form back, I even noticed quite a bit of improvment on some of them. I am a firm believer that you can never stretch too much. i was in a similar situation where i took some time off and didnt stretch, and ill tell you what i use to be able to have my 1 foot on the ground toes touching the wall and my other leg straight up against the wall but my heal touching it, now when i try that from being out of training and not stretching i can barely get halfway up there.. i would agree stretching is the best method and you can never do to much..
  3. The first style I learned was Tang Soo Do and my parents paid 1200 a year + gear/tests/tournaments etc.. Then I had 1 private instructor I paid for about 30 dollars a month (kind of a good faith thing) and 2 more private instructors that I didnt pay. It really depends on the style and the instructor (if its not already a mcdojo) I would recomend watching a few classes to determine wether you feel that is the style you wish to study as well as if you feel the instructors are doing a good job. For instance do they take the time to help correct students when they are not performing a techniuqe correctly etc.. As for getting ready to start martial arts? I would stretch daily, maybe start some jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups etc... to get yourself ready..
  4. I am sorry to hear that as well.. Yes reporters are . Just a good thing you kept your cool while they bugged you. I hope everything goes well for you.
  5. I received a long email about UMMA stateing what it is and what its about. Heres a part from it, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what it is, if they know about it, is it a scam, etc..... ------------------- United Martial Arts Association, Int’l., the Hombu association of Hanshi Hugh Kelley, the direct student and successor to Kuniba Shogo, Soke, who headed the Seishin Kai Karate Union. (one of karate’s greatest Masters) When Kuniba Soke passed away in 1992, Hanshi Kelley formed the UMAAI. ------------------- I will not post the whole letter now because I wish to see what this is about first. Once I see what its about I will post it. I replied to the persons email asking a few questions but I want to see if anyone on here knows about it.
  6. death to lvl 8!!
  7. try to get one of those huge round balls (not really sure how to explain what they are) then put your butt right on the corner so your not falling off and your feet are holding you up, then roll back slightly so its like your laying flat (or bent) over the ball, then do start doing situps or crunches.. you can put weights behind your head and hold them with your hands, just make sure your not putting to much pressure on your neck, use your abs to lift not your head.
  8. that is almost true 100% of the time. unless the person doesnt hurt you when he/she hits you, then you say to yourself well it wasnt that bad, i think i have a chance...
  9. yea it was someone of the hells angels dont know who, an im guessing chuck zito was it. the guy knows MA but i know he had something to do with hells angels.. an not all MC's are 1%ers they have beer drinking clubs and rideing clubs etc...
  10. thats pushing it a little far man. have you ever been in an actual fight? your making it out to be that everyones gonna kill each other in a fist fight. now a days you dont have to worry about that because they just would shoot ya. its not worth going to jail over stupid things like a fist fight which usually end in 1-15min. i already screwed up my life, but i was a juvenille, i just might have a 2nd chance, but because of the stupid choices i made im paying for it the rest of my life. If you search my name you will find a post awhile back that i shared on a streetfighting topic, my friend died fighting, got his neck broken. Im not sure anymore but in philly they had arranged street fights and he payed with his life at a young age, because he chose to be a bad@ss.
  11. Uhm... you are. Why didn't you let him beat you up? He would have probably done less damage to you, and spared you the bill for breaking the window. Come on, you're joking, right? Lol, man that's funny to picture.

Cop: Yes your honor Judge: Could you tell me what you said to him Cop: Your honor I asked him if he knew why I was pulling him over Judge: Joe what was your reply? You: Well your honor, its kind of embarrassing.. Judge: go on You: RawR! RawR! I am the cookie monster! RawR! Judge: .......
  14. no age is to young.. when they are young you just have to teach the right an the wrong.. i heard shaolin monks start training as young as 3yrs old
  15. I would watch some of the classes before you decide. Sometimes people think theres no point to grappling, but when you see some of the stuff they do it might intrigue you. Then again you might just like more cardio so boxing or muay thai might be the way. Wing Chun is fun though to *edit - not saying boxing an muay thai is only cardio, because they are some tough opponents, just from my experence a helluva workout.
  16. Good and Bad... Insurances probley wouldnt like it.. Not to mention over 1/2 the students in the school would probley abuse it one way or another. I would have taken it though.
  17. Yep, but half true. I remember if I ever got beat, I wouldnt have to say a word because my friends would all go make sure it would never happen again. Dont flame me now for that though, it was the past and I now realize its not the right thing. thats a big if though *edit- im talking about when i was 11-13 when nothing was that serious
  18. Try something insane.. Bark at the person, growl.. Like LuckyBoxer said "emotional and mental devastation" it works. Seen it in 2 instances. Once in school this kid was talking crap about my friend at lunch and was staring him down an when he was walking back towards him, my friend let out a big "GRRRRRRRRAGRAR" and the kids eyes went other time someone 'snuck' (for those who dont know its a sucker punch when someones not ready for it to the face) my friend and busted his lip an he came to me I flipped out headbutted a wall and broke a window in front of the person an he didnt wanna fight. he said i was insane.
  19. my friend is VGCmike , i sometimes play under his name if im there.. just tell him you know joe or soulassassin he will probley talk some shi on me but it will give you someone to play with..
  20. Soul Assassin.. Well I was privately trained by my friends dad who was a vietenese Soul Assassin
  21. Well if he is as big as your saying, use his weight against him. Watch him close and if he throws a punch try to grab his arm and pull him keep him off balanced any way you can. taking out his legs is another good thing, since he is big his legs will be strong from holding him up, but then again if he cant stand chances are he cant fight (unless he can grapple) but then you are at least able to get away.
