colour of belt system???? quick anyone??
BKJ1216 replied to babygrew26's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think it's kind of stupid that some dojos require you to be 16 before you are able to reach shodan. -
I think that's most of the problem. The Muay Thai fighters have the mentality that everything is about fighting, the karate fighters well I don't know about them that's why I'm going to learn karate. BTW what the hell is a mcdojo? I've heard this term being thrown around a lot and don't know what it means. Oh and I heard someone talking how when you do kata you practice the muscles used to do the techniques, so maybe that could be a valuable reason for kata. Oh yeah how do you tell if your studying at a "mcdojo"?

score one for TKD!
BKJ1216 replied to niel0092's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
HAHA always nice to see an unsuspecting crook mess with a martial artist. -
I'm pretty sure that you are suposed to hem it to the wrist on the sleeves and just above the ankle on the heels. Don't rely too much on my advice though because well for one i'm and idiot and two i haven't started karate yet. BTW how is that goju ryu going for ya? I'm still undecided between shudokan and goju ryu.

Nerve strikes/attacks
BKJ1216 replied to dark_adjudication's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well me peronsally I'd try to find a military black book. My uncle was in the marines and they had a close combat black book that has diagrms of the nerves and everything. -
Anyone got some good guides on how to pronoune japanese words? I was looking at one site and though i had it down beore i ran into hangetsu-dachi. I thought it was hon-gee-zoo-dah-chee but someone said I was wrong.

"I was watching the news today and they mentioned the first casualties of the war. The first 4 anyway. They glossed over the other 12 (non-Americans) on the helicopter. When did people become Americans first and humans second? How sick is that?" they mentioned the other 16 the night before, I think in america americans should be our first priority, that's probablyt he reason I'm so aginst war in the first place.

Well karate ki my best guess is karate but trainign to use ki in combat. The taddered belets, either they're very old and have been throuhg many training sessions or the teachers ordered them pre-torn for that extra special look.

I've never even heard of the style, sorry.

The gloves aren't that thick. Seriously, if you are a hard hitter you will still be able to feel the knuckles.
-
I disagree, they used to, but not anymore. Now they favour a ground and pound style ........................................................................ You missed my point. The fightrs of the UFC and Pride are at the top of their game. While most people are not. Therefore UFC is only an indicator of hat the fighter is capable of at their highest potential. There are many other fighters that are at the top of their game. The difference is that they do ameture tornuments and things like that. I've started to look at UFC more like entertainment. And when I wath UFC the only stuff I see is people taking them to the ground, and pounding them.
-
I'm not sure, but I know that a lot of people make rumors like that. I heard a while ago that as soon as your 1st Kyu you have to register yourself as a deadly weapon, so if you ever assulted anywon it would be assult with a deadly wepon. Oh yeah amp what about american kenpo? There is a dojo near by that says american kenpo.

Got a qeustion for all you instructors.
BKJ1216 replied to BKJ1216's topic in Instructors and School Owners
The problem is that if I show up on my own no one is going to take a 14 year old boy seriously. He wants to see an adult, because come on he's gotta know my parents are gonna be the ones paying for it. The probelm with my parents going down is that for one, my mother has fibromayalga, or chronic pain, and is often times in too much pain or ill because it renders her imune system useless. My father woudln't be able to go down there because he works 10 hours a day, and when he comes home he's very tired. I'd really have to beg to get them to take my down to both of the dojos so I can see how they operate. That's why I've been trying to get information here because I don't want to have to go skipping across town checkign out the dojos, because I know for a fact that my parents woudln't be able to do that. -
Yeah well I guess I'll just have to wait to go down there to find out how much his prices are.
-
Alright well recently I called a local dojo in town to see what their prices were. The guy woudln't give me the price. I know I can't afford over 50 and I told him that, but he said that I need to go in there and see how they operate before I eliminate it because of money reason. He sounded to me like he was saying that any ammount of money would be worth it to take this class. I can't shake the feeling that it's expensive though just because he woudln't tell me what the price was. Do you guys think it's expensive?
-
I never really liked the UFC stuff before. I dont' ike watching grappling sports and that's all I was seeing.

goju-ryu vs. shduokan
BKJ1216 replied to BKJ1216's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Yes shudokan is different. -
Well I recently called the goju school in my area to see how much it costs. To make story shot i tried to convince him every way I could to tell me how much it costs, but all he would say is that i should see the classes before I judge. You guys think they're expensive? I told the guy that I can't go above 50 a month, and he still woudln't tell me, woudln't even tell me if it was above or below that.
-
Hmmm well it woudl be nice to share how to find these. I'm pretty curious as to see what some of the goju kattas i've heard of look like. I know another name for suparpine is pechurin.
