  1. All Fixed now. Looks like I checked 'Private' instead of 'Public' oopsies
  2. I'll check it out and fix it. Thanks for the heads up
  3. There should be a playlist now if you click one of those videos
  4. Sorry about the quality! More to come
  5. Thnx mate but the credit really should go to my wife who was the driving force behind this and a number of other Karate Victoria innovations over the last few years (including the VKL). It was a good day though. I learnt plenty and loved the session your Instructor presented. I think you both need the credit. We used some of your drills last night and was interesting
  6. For me solo practice is important as it helps me focus and calm down. It helps negate any self talk or anything else. I focus on kihon which is vital. Then I focus on kata and do each one multiple times over. And gives me a chance to work on anything that i had learnt that week
  7. I think some blogs do that as well where they occassionaly post a podcast that way.
  8. I'll be uploading them tomorrow. I have to give credit to Wayneshin for running the event
  9. Kind of, basically it is where you post what you want without moderators etc (Sorry to the Mods on this site)
  10. I think it would be interesting because it could be able to share various points of view on things.
  11. I have used the Google App 'Blogger' and just started sharing from there. Otherwise use Wordpress which is good. But to be honest i am looking at starting a new karate blog and have it as a collaborative with others. Would you be interested? Type and share it and people will come.
  12. Thought I might share with you guys about today, this was the Karate Victoria Supershow. It was designed for instructors and coaches to better train karateka at our dojo's for the future. We looked at training methods for advanced and beginner kata. Along with kumite drills, fitness and self defense. The people running the sessions are either State or National coaches or Experienced chief instructors. It was organised by the one and only Sensei Wayne Noble and his lovely wife. Who made it a lovely day to learn from some of the best. I found the sessions most insightful and will use many of the tips and tricks that we were shown in my own teaching but also my own training. I will share some links to some examples of what we did in the next couple of days.
  13. I got a walk through of Paiku last night and was very interesting, the only difficult part was where you do the squat whilst performing a Jodan Uke (Age Uke to some). I originally believed Ryuei-Ryu was from the Shuri-Te Lineage until I was told last night that it was from Naha-Te lines. Although I should have known because of the techniques from Paiku itself that were the same as Goju-Ryu. Naihanchi I've done a few times and it is a pretty good one to do.
  14. Over the last 12 Months I have slowly been starting to learn kata from other styles. Now looking at learning another and want you lovely peoples help. What Kata do you think I should learn next? - Paiku (Ryuei-Ryu) - Gojushiho Sho (Shotokan + Shito-ryu) - Gojushiho Dai (Shotokan + Shito-ryu) Or another one?
  15. That sucks that it occurred to you dude. Were you training quite consistently that required the protein + Creatine? Usually only those who are dedicated to building mass like really building it will use those powders.
  16. Correcting such behaviour can't be done in a short amount of time. Sometimes it can be done depending on the circumstances (ie. get hurt or sent to jail). But promoting good behaviour and rewarding it can make those who don't exhibit those traits, then they will want to change. Disrespect must be stamped out immediately in class. I dislike students who disrespect others as it is a big pet peeve of mine.
  17. Basically yeah! Supplements are only used as an aid in working hard. Because a lot of people take it and don't train to get the results they expect. Gaining Muscle Size takes time
  18. That's what I was about to ask. Bingo
  19. At my dojo + old club we have (I'm a Goju-Ryu Practitioner): Chudan Uke (Rarely we call it Yoko Uke) = Middle Block Uchi Uke = Inward Deflecting Block Has a 'Go' variation + a 'Ju' Variation so in other words we have a Hard Version (Match the opposing technique with brunt force) and a Soft Version (Absorb + Redirect) Soto Uke = Outward Deflecting Block Each of those blocks at Chudan Level each require appropriate height (obviously Duh!) and the three have different hip motions.
  20. My club doesn't go "You must buy this cut of gi!!". We sell our 'basic' gi which has the logo on it. Generally 90% of our students buy that one upon signing up, but the other 10% generally have another gi that they own because they have come from another school. But my sensei does offer students who need to buy a new gi various gi's that are better quality than our 'basic' one. He also offers to have the clubs logo put on it for a little extra. We usually sell the Tokaido, Adidas and Arawaza Series to the higher ranked students, but still available to lower ranked students. A few of us have the Seishin Gi's which are AMAZING!!! But unfortunately sensei doesn't order them in because they are usually in limited quantity. So you have to order yourself. But in terms of colour of Gi, sensei requests that we wear all white. But he does allow us to have the black pants with the white top. Along with the Black Belts allowed to wear all Red Gi's but not many of us have them (I don't know what happened to mine!). But he does not like gi's of any other colour (Got told off for wearing a full black gi).
  21. I usually do that, but what annoys the heck out of me is when i don't bring it that is when we learn something new or have something told to me to improve on.
  22. Having a look at your style of MA it says Goju-Ryu Karate. But running through all the kata (From Goju-Ryu) off the top of my head there is no kata like that in our style. Empi/Enpi is not a Goju-Ryu Kata. When you train next ask your instructor of the name, because it might be a school-specific kata that doesn't exist at other schools
  23. Always helpful to have proof of progress. Many of my clients record what they do and how long for. But when training it can actually inhibit your ability to 'tell' when a movement starts becoming excessive. Even if you stretch and you feel like you can move further in your movements but in reality there is a little further movement but even pushing say 2-3 cm past that point prior to stretching will be damaged. With data out in the public you need to take with a pinch of salt because you don't know who was used in that research. So when you want to look at stretching you should really look at family history because it is more reliable as family generally have a similar amount of flexibility.
  24. If you weren't running out of a Rec Centre would you consider running birthday parties?
  25. I use a pair of the AKF (Australian Karate Federation) Mits. They are similar to the WKF ones but the pair I have are less durable
