  1. I'm new to this forum, so if you guys have already talked about this, then I apologize. What is your belt ranking stysem in your respective style? Tang Soo Do: 10th Gup: White Belt 9th Gup: White Belt w/ Stripe 8th Gup: Orange Belt 7th Gup: Orange Belt w/ Stripe 6th Gup: Green Belt 5th Gup: Green Belt w/ Stripe 4th Gup: Brown Belt 3rd Gup: Brown Belt w/ Stripe 2nd Gup: Red Belt 1st Gup: Red Belt w/ Stripe 1st Dan: Black Belt What is yours?
  2. Army Combatives. Not sure of the actual name because I could care less about it haha. Being a retired professional mixed martial artist, I can tell you the combatives techniques used in the military do not work. Some of them do, don't get me wrong, but when I was in basic training, I submitted all the drill sergeants with real brazilian jiu-jitsu while they obviously used army combatives. It's a decent workout, but you're better off joining a real bjj school. Best of luck!
  3. I am not in the National Karate Federation so I could care less if they accept it or not. I have tested for every rank I've earned. I will be testing under GM David Zacker who is an 8th Dan in Tang Soo Do, he is from Michigan. Do not need a board of members (unless in a federation or association) just need a higher rank to test and grade you, and that is accepted. Calling yourself w/e rank you want to? I believe some one that changes their rank w/o testing for it is a fake, but, like in some schools, instuctors change their rank to be noticed as the instructor, which is fine I suppose. I don't believe in it. I'm more of a traditionalist. I out rank my students, but I do not say no one out ranks me. My instructor, his instructor, and his instructor all out rank me and are much more knowledgeable than I. Also, I'm not saying you're wrong, or anyone is wrong. We all have our own opinions on different things. That's why I joined this forum. Also I don't mean to sound like an a-hole, hard to not when typing haha. Thanks for the input tho!
  4. I've had the same black belt for the last 7years made from Tiger Claw, and its still in great shape.
  5. Just tell him you want a smaller size belt instead of wasting money.
  6. I have been doings TSD for almost 18 years now. It is a great style to learn. TSD is a Korean style founded by Grandmaster Hwang Kee after returning to Korea from China during the Japanese invasion during WWII. Just like Harkon72 said, TSD is the style Chuck Norris learned when he was stationed in Korea. He learned under Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin, creator of some of the forms we do called the World Forms. Also like FangPwnsAll7 said, traditional TSD have color trim on the uniforms. Depending on what color rank you are is the color trim. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Hope this helped.
  7. I do a game at the end of every class with the kids. Some games I do is: 1. Chicken Fighting: each kid stands on one leg and they try to push each other over. First kid to set the other foot down looses. This teachs balance. 2. Shield Fighting: each kid uses a padded kicking shield and they push each other moving every which way. First one to get out of the fighting area, looses. Works different muscles in the legs. 3. Jumping over the Barrier: set up a barrier that the kids can jump over. Have rounds. Each round raise the height of the barrier. This teaches the students to tuck their legs for jump kicks. Apart from the listed above, just fun games to keep their heart rate up is great for cardio. Hope this helped a little bit. Good luck!
  8. I do not or have ever belonged to an association or federation, or do I ever plan on it. I like to teach my way and not having others be incharge of the way I teach or what I teach MY school. The rank you have is not your final either, so the guy that said that above is wrong. In the martial arts you find people that are higher rank and they test you. I have done it and my instructor has done it.
